Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless (V1) $99.95 (Free Shipping) @ Sennheiser Outlet via eBay AU

1870

Was tempted at $150, but nah. But for $100, ok I'll bite! (Main reason for me is because it's one of / the only true wireless earphones that supports AptX-LL - the Momentum True Wireless V2 does not!)

This is the version 1 of the Momentum True Wireless. Supposedly has great sound (see here), but has a battery drain issue (which can be mitigated with this fix by inserting a magnetic USB-C plug - meaning the case will stay charged for about 4 days (so will still need frequent recharging, but not as bad). Edit: See comments below here and here about the battery issues being exaggerated. I will leave all this here, just so people are aware there is a battery drain issue, but the extent of it, I can't say.

Supports: SBC, AAC, AptX & AptX-LL (one of the few/only true wireless earphones to support AptX Low Latency!)

A joke at the original RRP of $499, but for $100, it's not a bad option to consider (particularly if you have an AptX Low Latency Transmitter, like the Genki for Nintendo Switch).

I bought now, I don't care that much about $9

People on this forum are ruthless with returns, and honestly it kills businesses. They'll slowly change return policies, or add shipping fees. Businesses can't sustain all these costs long term.

Otherwise I'd ban individual people, if I was a business and noticed someone do that. I think it's well within their rights. I feel it's total abuse, ASOS has already started warning people over returns. I've seen retailers add set postage fees now, if you abuse something you'll basically burn yourself longtime over a pathetic saving.

          Just my view.

          • @[Deactivated]: Just to be clear, I'd only do it if they didn't ship it out yet

If they ship it out then I won't bother

At around midnight 240 had been bought, so in the last 14 hours over 1000 were sold.

  • +1

    Got one, thanks OP

  • +1

    Thanks OP. I ordered one

  • These headphones have the worst UI out of any wireless headphones I've used, by a long shot. I definitely wouldn't recommend them or buy them again. Literally made an account just to post this, it's that bad.

    • Like the App UI? If so, don't think I've really used my Sony ones and they are one of the better UIs

      • No, like the actual buttons on the device. They're touch, and they're super sensitive - if you have them in and you lay down, they'll pause. They don't automatically connect both headphones at the same time. They're a pain hey.

  • +1

Thanks heaps OP, ordered one. Love my Jabra Elite Sports but $99 was too tempting

  • +1

Thanks OP, grab one to replace my cheapie QCY

  • This or B&O E8? Any opinions?

      Neither

  • +1

Did anyone get theirs sent? Looking at the number of ratings on the 'official Sennheiser Australia' account, I hope we didn't get scammed??

    • +2

Yes, I've got a tracking number and the abn number on the tax invoice matches Sennheiser Australia abn

      • Thanks mate, that's a relief =)

      • I also got the tracking number but it doesn't say who the courier is. Aus Post doesn't recognize the number so I assume it's not them.

        • Mine was sent through Aus Post

          • @triviums: Ok thanks, maybe it hadn't scanned yet when I first checked it.

  • I'm just surprised that these haven't sold out yet!

    • Me too, I wonder if they were that badly received and have such huge stock leftover after releasing V2.

Or their previous price/RRP was just too greedy banking on people to jump on its brand and buy it without noticing its competitions.

      • It's a bit of both. They are meant to be a fantastic sounding earphone, hampered by some deal-breaking flaws. Hard to justify the outrageous RRP in comparison to the competition with these flaws (even if by many accounts they have better sound quality), so they probably didn't sell as well as they should have. My guess is they have a lot more leftover stock to clear than typical because of that.

But Sennheiser often have ridiculous prices, followed by massive discounts - just look at the IE80S BT, which has an unfathomable $800 RRP, going for as low as $250, and they haven't even been out for very long! That is some facepalm pricing right there!

Just saying but my almost 2 years old one has just became useless since the left earbud stop playing music even when i still able to use it to make command ( which means it was not about the bluetooth connection and this is a common issue as i checked on Google for this case).
Anyway, i still wanna go back for this one since their noice isolation by itself was way too great ( no need for the ANC) and in case you need for more impression, just go for this ear tip https://www.amazon.com.au/SpinFit-CP360-Patented-Silicone-Ea….

    • If it's within the 2 year warranty, you should get that in for warranty quick - I've read reports that they will send you out a brand new pair! :)

(Or I guess you could wait for them to run out, in the hope that they send you a V2!) :)

And +1 for the SpinFit tips - I use them, on another IEM.

    Just ordered one. Thanks OP!

    Thanks OP
    Also bought.

I just bought the Sony wf1000xm3 last week but these should be good to compliment with being my gym pair .

  • Anyone knows what courier do they use for tracking? Received tracking number but no link nor mention of which courier…

      Postage service Standard Parcel Delivery

I am assuming this is Australia Post?

    • +2

Mine is being sent through Aus Post

    • Auspost. I just received mine but it seems the item is faulty.

  • Ok 100 left, I think they are finally running out of stock

  • I just got mine. Left earbud completely doesn't work. I have charged it for half a day before using it for the first time.
The left earbud just doesn't have any sound…
Might need to return it :(

Should I contact them via the ebay store or from the official website customer service?

    • Hmm, that sucks! Hopefully that's just a one-off faulty, and they're not all like that!!

I would try the official customer service and see how you go! Please report back!

Btw, was it completely brand new, or refurbished?

      • Thank you. I will try the ofiicial website because I just checked their ratings on ebay - a couple of neg feedbacks mentioned they don't reply ebay messages…..

        • +1

I've previously had to make a warranty claim for a headphone I bought through the official Sennheiser outlet store and even spoke with their tech support on the phone and they were alright.

      • +3

Mine just arrived - can confirm they are brand new (factory sealed).

Charging up now - fingers crossed mine are alight!

        • +2

Apparentley not all of them have the battery discharge issue. Fingers crossed for you.

Still waitin on mine to be delivered. Cheers for the post btw.

They are still rated as the best sounding TWS money can buy in terms of sound quality :D

          • +1

@illz: in terms of sound quality
Yes I can confirm with the right-side earbud that is working.
I own a pair of airpods pro and the sound quality is not comparable to the Momentum… even with only one earbud working

            • @seanyong: Hope you get it sorted easily.

              • @illz: Thank you! Just got the return label and sent it back.
Have to re-order one though…they cannot do exchange

    • Mine just arrived (finally, I ordered on the 10/12), and I have the same problem as you.

They refunded me and didnt ask for the faulty one back.

And i cant even re-order as they said they dont have any stock.

      So that sucks.

  • Anyone got a delivery date?

    • +1

3 of mine got delivered this morning

      • wondering how they shipped bulk orders of 30, 50, 70, and 90??? haha

Guys honestly these are brilliant. Received them today and I prefer them to my Sony wf-1000xm3

The sounds out of them is so beautiful.
I just bought a second pair for my partner.

For 99.95 it's a no brainer. Do yourself a favour

      Hey longmemory,
Thank you for coming back to write that.
I was really torn between sonys and these ever since sennheisers fell under 200. Thanks for helping me decide. Ordered.

  • +1

The claims that the batteries issues are over-exaggerated are incorrect. Even with a magnetic usb c plugged in permanently the earphone only lasted a few days.

  • +1

Anyone has tried both this and Bose Soundsport Free?

  • Mine just got delivered in QLD.

    Pumped!

  • +1

Have done some testing and mine doesn't seem to be discharging when not being used.

    Will continue to test.

    Firmware upgrade took forever.

Sound is amazing. I have tried and own all other high end models as I love TWS(collect them). These kill everything, it's like wearing production cans. Crazy what they did with these. Guessing that's why they are so big, crazy tech in the drivers.

    • Hey,

I bought the TW2's from the Amazon Black Friday deal, is it worth also getting these?

      • +1

If sound quality is what your after, 100%
The battery on these are only 4 hours, no wireless charging, thankfully they are usb c.. But I don't plan to listen to music longer than 4 hours so these are perfect and I don't need any other feature.
One feature these do have which I was surprised was the pass through while listening feature, you can hear outside noise while playing music. That's big for me.
I feel like consumers lose sight on what earbuds are really for, sound. It's the most important feature and often gets overlooked for other features they wouldn't even necessarily use.

I have better earbuds for calls, features etc. I recommend the soundcore liberty air 2's for call quality and features. They are insane.

        Hope this helps.

        • Thanks for your reply.

I've used my Sennheiser MOMENTUM True Wireless 2 earphones and I really like them.
I think the feature your thinking of is Transparent mode? I find this feature very useful as well on the version 2's.

For the price of the Version 1's it's quite tempting but since I already have the versions 2's, it's hard to know if it's really worth it.

          • +1

@russianMeerkat: have another set as a backup :)….

            • +1

@da1nonly: @da1nonly do you own one pair of the Version 1's and one pair of the Version 2's?

I also own a pair of Samsung Galaxy buds+ earphones. It's hard to know how many pairs is too many to have haha.

              • @russianMeerkat: I actually do :)….

                • @da1nonly: have you experience any discharge issues with the version 1? I'm not sure if it's still an issue that is present with the version 1's.

                  • @russianMeerkat: They do discharge but not as exaggerated as some of the posts mentioned… In fact they discharge slower than my Bose soundsport free which suffers from the same issue… Hope this helps :)

    • Did you tweak the EQ much? I was surprised how muffled they sound out of the box; I tried raising the treble a bit to make vocals clearer but still not sure if I've got it right.

      • I leave it at neutral in the app and use Poweramps EQ, works great.

    Bought one. Thanks, OP.

  • got one from the restock. everyone thats already bought one, you guys are happy with the product?

    • +1

Haven't used them enough to test the battery life, and see how much of an issue the battery drain really is, but in terms of sound quality, yes they are great! :)

  • Did anyone notice the earphones are still connected even if they are in the case?

    • Yes. For me it occurred when the case ran out of power. Once the charger was plugged in the earphones disconnected.

      • It makes sense now, the case does not shut the earphone if the case does not have any battery and earphone will connect to bluetooth devices.

        • Yeah, that is the cause of the battery drain issue, apparently. You should use one of the magnetic USB-C plugs, that should switch them off!

          • @caprimulgus: Does it have to be a magnetic USB-C plug or just a USB-C plug but not powered?

Bought one two days ago and waiting for delivery. Amazon has Jabra 75t for $70 more and is tempting me now.

            • @Commenter: I would think any USB-C should work fine, so you can just plug a usb-c cable into it.

(The magnetic plug is more just for portability, and leaving it plugged all the time.)

          • @caprimulgus: So is the battery drain issue still present on the version 1's 🤔

I own the version 2's and rethinking on whether I should bother getting the versions 1 as well

            • @russianMeerkat: Not on mine. Seem to be fine for now.

              • +1

                @illz: Still no discharge issue?

                • @Commenter: Still no issues. Using it heavily, no drain issues in the case. Haven't had to recharge at all.

Side note: they connect quicker than any other earbud I have to my devices.

  • How is the sound quality? Compared the Bose?
    Already have the Bose one

    • +2

They are rated better than any other earbuds new or old in terms of sound quality.

Read my post above, I can confirm this. Amazing.

In terms of sound quality, this is better than my 1000XM3, QC35-II, and Jaybird Vista.

  • Looks like it is back in stock again.

  • Received mine, they're great! Just waiting for the magnetic cable now :)

  • Purchased on the 10th (about 1 hour or so after OP posted it).

    "estimated delivery Monday 14 Dec 2020 - Wednesday 23 Dec 2020"

Last tracking item is "processed at Sydney facility" on the 16th.

    Still waiting…… I'm in Perth.

    • I'm also in Perth, ordered on the 10th and got it Monday, fingers crossed you'll get it tomorrow =)

  • Anyone get constant dropping out and static/crackling from the left ear bud? Honestly makes them near unusable. Happens every 30-45 seconds, even with my phone on me. Also happens with other devices connected to them.

    If anyone looking for!!

  • Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless Version 1 vs Version 2?

I'd like to hear all your opinions?

    • +1
      • Thanks for the link 😊 It really helped me.

I returned the Version 2 earphones as I felt the ANC wasn't really doing much for me. For my needs I couldn't justify the extra cost for the other improvements. The improved battery life was the hardest decision on whether I wanted it or not but ultimately I came to terms that if I'm not going to use them a lot it's probably not going to be a vital need.

I emailed The sennheiserau eBay store asking if they'll be getting more stock and they've said that:

"We do still have stock available.

I believe the add listing can only have a certain number available, when we “run out of stock” the listing comes down, until it auto tops up. Maybe check it out again later today?"

This email was received on 29th of December.

  • These have ruined my other earbuds which used to be awesome. :(
I had a specific pair I'd wear for bed, listening to EDM. Unusable now, had no idea what I was missing.

  • Anyone find that the left earbud stops working if the right earbud is more than about 15cm from it? I know they don't work independently due to the master/slave system i.e. you can't leave one charging in the case while using the other, but I didn't know you can't even take the right earbud out of your ear and hold it in your hand; 15cm is practically nothing! Is this the same for everyone?

    • +2

That is the Smart Pause function (pauses if one ear is removed, based on proximity sensor). I believe you can turn it off in the app.

      • Thanks, the smart pause function was off so I think the left earbud has a tiny range and needs to be very close to the right. From reviews the v2s have a much longer range, probably another vast improvement they made over the v1.
