Looks like the real bargain is gonna be in January when they’re cleared out for $1.25.

    I’m gonna get so fat…
Side note did they change the tin? I remember it being a darker blue…

    • +2

      You could be right.

Side note. My colleague use to bring this in the office for our afternoon coffee time.

      • +2

        Yum.
It’s only because I remember this being the brand name one that tastes way better…
The imitation ones tasted like stale cardboard, while these tasted moist and fresh!

Kjeldsens is the brand you want to have when it comes to tin Danish cookies. These and other ones you can only taste the sweetness or that fake butter taste. Cannot seem to find Kjeldsens easily anymore however.

          • @FrugalNotStingy: Agreed. But difficult to find Kjeldsens here I believe.

          • @FrugalNotStingy: Damn, now I want to try this brand. Where can I find them?

            • @first in line: Certain Kmart and Big W stores used to sell them years ago but I can’t find them in Oz anymore in the last 10 years or so. Maybe try to find it online or get some mates to send it from the US, Europe or Asia etc?

          • +1

@FrugalNotStingy: I believe they don't distribute Kjeldsens into Australia anymore, but they're sold in Asia. Maybe Asian stores or Red Dot et al that do parallel imports might have them. One time I came back from Hong Kong I brought a tin back. They definitely taste better than the brands here. Good times.

            • @misterchan: I did search a few Asian grocery shops as I know they were popular in HK and Singapore but I couldn’t find them. I don’t remember exactly but I think years ago I saw those snack sized small packet ones but not in a tin before. Maybe I should look harder at places that sell international food.

          • +1

            @FrugalNotStingy: No Kjeldsens , no go … .

        • +3

You cant really call them imitations, they are simply cookies. On top of that both Royal Dansk and Kjeldsens now belong to the same parent company, which probably use the same production line for these.
I think Danisa is from a different company but Kelsen is the biggest in the market.
Actually if you have kids or enjoy baking, just buy a Marcato biscuit press and have endless high quality cookies for almost nothing before you die of diabetes, or make yucky sugar-free ones:)

          • @truetypezk: Last time I bought a big tin of Royal Dansk cookies from Costco and they were awful and lack crunch. Not long after, I got someone brought back a tin of Kjeldsens from overseas and the cookies tasted much better.

Good idea to make your own cookies but It’s a good thing I am not good at making cookies and cakes otherwise it would be bad ;)

Noob Question: Are the Wonderful Copenhagen biscuits the exact same as Royal Dansk biscuit? Royal Dansk biscuit on Amazon go for like $40 a tin.

  • +4

Shouldn't you be buying this AFTER Christmas? This is ozbargain after all.

    • Por que no los dos? Before and after Christmas.

    • No, don't encourage the boffins to buy a tin(s), then sit there and eat all of it themselves - you know they would.

  • +5

The tin worth more than $5 if you compare with the Sistema containers.

    • ^^^ This !! yes, I have like 4-5 round tins in the cupboard wasting space cause they aren't efficient and I wanted to use them rather than throw them out.

      • Yeah I think even the stump jump plow ended up in one of those tins!

Actually now that mention it, mum did keep her gardening seeds in one of these tins as well.

  • How long is the used by date usually on these?

    • +5

Usually 8 - 12 characters depending on date format, eg YYYYMMDD or DD MON YYYY, etc.

    • +1

Good quality sewing thread should last around 50 years.

      • Family eirloom that. Handed through the generation.

Mum got scissors for cutting fabric that she inherited from her mother. Its built to last.

    • Walk into the Supermarket and have a look?
