50% off Mobile Plans For 24 Months on Your Second Service with Optus (New Number or Port-in Only)

981

Hi Family,
(It is not on website but you have to call them.)
Just was on call with Optus retention team and the lovely lady mentioned currently they have 50% off mobile plan for new numbers or port-in number for existing customers. I asked what if I move out all numbers and port-in and she mentioned yes you can technically unlock the discount.

So if you are existing customer and port-in back number or adding new number you unlock the discount of 50% on the mobile plan for the first 24 months.

I had called regarding currently in store specials 20% off on 12 month $49 60GB sim only plan and they offers $10 flat discount on each numbers.

Hope it helps someone.

Thanks

  • to make the things confusing, i have optus phone plans already but the guy told me to 'upgrade' it to be eligible and considered it as my first service. means i have to break my contract and pay hundreds $ fee.

then to get 50% discount on my new second-service, it has to be ported in from other provider.

so, instead of saving money, i have to pay more and have to have other-than-optus number

  • So I managed to get this deal.

I was on Optus 4G broadband month-to-month for $68/pm [500GB]. My mobile phone was with Amaysim for $40/pm [70GB]. Total: $108.

Optus offered me their 5G modem internet service with unlimited monthly data for $75/pm bundled with Optus Sport. They then offered me 50% off one of their month-to-month [no contract] mobile phone plans if I ported over my Amaysim number. I chose the $49/pm plan [60GB] which was reduced to $24.50/pm.

All up my monthly bill is now $99.50, reduced from $108/pm.

    Cheers OP.

  • Managed to get this deal. I already had 2 existing numbers which i had signed up on Optus One discount last week. I needed a 3rd service for my kid. The person checked and asked me to get a prepaid which she can port over and apply the discount. Got the $59/m plan at half price.

  • Messaged their chat helpdesk last night and told them i was porting a number in. They told me i had to be signing up for a new mobile phone or upgrading to a new mobile phone in addition to porting in to be eligible for the discount. TLDR; Porting in a new number wasn't enough for me to be eligible.

    • That’s what they told me as well. I thought it just as easy as adding a new service with them since I already got a phone plan.

  • For anyone interested the flybuys plans might be a more cost effective alternative…

At https://www.optus.com.au/flybuys you can get 25% off plan fees for 24 months. If you are looking to connect 2 services and have modest data requirements you could connect to the $35 Sim plan for $26.25 a month per service ($52.50 total) and have a shared data pool of 40 GB.

    • No international calls on those

    • This is not month to month

  • optus are scum, pure scum they lie and will do anything to sign you up. I would avoid them like the plague this deal has so many conditions its not worth it and it only took 3 hours on chat to not get a service from them.

  • +1

Crazy need to shift my existing plan of $35 with 30GB to $39 with 10GB and no Intl calls, in order to get the 50% off. Pay more to get less yeah that logic isn’t right.

Will stick with what I have now.

    • you would be paying 19.5$ if you shift to 39$ plan. I think you would be better of shifting to 49$ plan which will be 24.5$ after 50% discount and you get 60GB data, internation call and optus sports.

I already have for my second sim plan a mobile plan which is getting 25% off, this deal has been around for yonks, after the 25% discount im paying $35 per month and the mobile plan has 105gb of data and as my first plan which is the extra small data plan for $15 per month and has 10gb of data

So came across this post and my eyes lit up cause of the 50% discount on second sim plan as Optus has a special deal currently on a mobile plan with usual unlimited calls/sms etc but with a genourous 500gb of data and the usual bells and whistles etc,.. for only $65 per month (usually $119)
    https://www.optus.com.au/mobile/plans/shop?SID=con:mcat:3up:…

With the 50% discount for second plan mobile plan comes too $32.50,.. (I.e $65 ÷2) per month

$15 + $32.50 = $47.50 per month and with Optus data sharing feature, both sims would share the 510gb of data

Might be the deal of the decade, 2020 ending with a big bang lolz 🤑

    • I thought exactly the same thing, and posted about it earlier in the thread. But after checking with Optus only one discount applies, either the one to $65 or half of $119.
      So, $15 + $59.50 = $74.50.
Not a terrible deal but not the ripper that $47.50 would have been

      • Yeah same just talked too Optus, seems like my (1st plan) $15 p/m extra small data plan doesn't qualify as the primary plan for this deal, though I could qualify my current (2nd plan costing $35) mobile plan as the primary plan and get another mobile plan above that at the 50% discount (that will be my third plan),.. though my understanding they will be recontracting for 24 months (no big deal as ill stay with Optus), saying that its still tempting as effectively the 3rd 50% discount plan ill be paying $32.5 ($65 ÷2) and will obtain 500gb to share across all my services using data sharing,.. so total cost for 3 plans, $15 + $35 + $32.50 = $82.50,.. for data total, 10gb + 105gb + 500gb = 615gb 👍😀

And my understanding speaking too Optus a NBN plan for example can be considered as a primary plan which i don't have

BIG EDIT: just spoke too Optus again,… that $65 mobile plan with 500gb data WILL NOT get any discounts or any discounts will apply to it in any form as it is already heavily discounted, its actually a $119 plan discounted too $65 , so effectively this plan is almost getting 50% off this deal ends 21st December 2020

So I could change my current mobile $35 plan too the $65 plan, effectively paying just under double in price but almost getting 5x the data,..

meh Optus now has unlimited data too there plans (shaping @ 1.5mbps) and I struggle now using up 115gb even with torrent downloading, I guess 500gb would be great for a family especially if streaming like Netflix etc

  • I also managed to get this deal for the $49 / 60gb per month for $24.50 on a month to month plan.
    Thanks OP :)

    • Is that your new port-in number? The second service?

Do you have existing plan with Optus before adding the $49 plan?

      • The second service I got for my daughter, but I have to get under my name to get the discount. My service I got recently through the flybuys discount of 25% off. But they offered that to me whilst I was trying to get the 50% off the 2nd service. It was easy enough to ask the questions through Optus Chat and it’s a month to month contract for the 50% off service.

  • Can everyone post what was there primary plan used too get the 50% discount on the new second plan, cheers

  • Will an active prepaid optus number work as the 1st number?
Or I need an active month to month plan to start with?

    • Something I didn't ask Optus could be only for postpaid plans but your welcome too find out for us👍

oh I noticed I was transferred to an Aussie sales rep around 530ish pm i called too, dare I say avoid chating online too an overseas call centre 🤑🤪

      • I dont think it’s overseas call center. It’s local, but with not so local staff plus their friends and families.

  • Hi, I was an Optus customer and my plan just finished a week ago. I bought a Kogan sim plan (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/588560).
I was able to port my existing number from Optus to Kogan and I was wondering if I go back to Optus again will still be eligible to keep my number?

    Thanks

    • You can port back to Optus after 30 days being with another provider. Your number always belongs to you, not the service provider.

  • I'm wondering, if I already got this discount for my 2nd number. Can I port out my 1st number and port back in again to get this discount for both number??

  • I just had chat with them, it seem this offer is no longer available. Not sure if the agent I was talking to don't know it, or it is no longer available.
