Xiaomi Black Shark 3 Pro 5G 256GB 7.1" Phone $1199 (Normally $1999) @ JB Hi-Fi

772

It's a beast of a phone. It's normally $1,999, often on sale for around $1,600. I think $1,199 is the cheapest I've seen. Nice big battery, 12 gigs of RAM, fast processor/GPU, lovely display. Pop-up gaming triggers seal the deal for gaming but I use mine mostly for office productivity. Has Band 28 but no NFC unfortunately.

Bonus Offer!
Purchase the Xiaomi Blackshark 3 Pro 5G 256GB handset and receive a bonus accessories pack valued at $498!
Accessories pack includes:
Black Shark Bluetooth Earphones 2
Black Shark FunCooler Pro
Black Shark Quick Charge Power Bank
Black Shark Audio/Quick Charge 2-in-1 Adapter

      • i had no problem for the first year as well. I liked the phone itself while the customer service is a let down. They basically answer every question except the problem with google.

I have to run gmail using 3rd party app and GoogleMap Go instead of full version.

Good luck and enjoy if you really like it. The phone is great performance wise

    • I'm running JoyUI 11 20.08.06 and have no problems running those apps. Having said that, I'm running Nova launcher rather than the stock launcher; but still, you'd think there'd be more widespread reports of google services not working if this was true. I wonder if it's a problem with the Chinese variant, rather than the International variant which this one is?

      • +1

Yeah I got the international rom one and never had any problems.

        • Since you got the global version. Does yours have google widevine L1 or L3?

L1 is what you need for hd in netflix.

          • @xoom: It's does have l1 when I checked with the software when I got it but saw a comment here and checked on Netflix, it is indeed playing only sd. Funny enough

            • @Cmaz: Yeah that's weird. I guess there's more to netflix than just widevine L1.

Thanks for confirming. Still not a deal breaker for me as if I want to watch hd netflix I got a tab s4.

Wish this had the infrared blaster and microsd slot.

By any chance does it have fm radio? Hoping so since its got a headphone jack.

              • @xoom: No fm radio

                • @Cmaz: Thanks. Such a shame that. Another feature i have to cross out in my spec list.

      • I am on 20.08.03. I may just seek other OS and pump it into my Halo. The phone is great performance wise.

    • Maybe the problem is with the Halo, not Joy UI.
*(edit: I am also using International version)
I'm using the Black shark 3 (notPro) with Joy UI 11, as a replacement for my laptop.
I use an AnnePro2 and Logitech G604, for work use.
I use the the left joystick accesory with Sony XM3 for casual gaming.

No issues with any google products so far (5 weeks) (maps, docs, services, gmail, Meet, Duo, etc). also works well with Google Home stuff; cast to the 65" OLED TV for zoom meetings, etc.

I would by the Pro, if I could justify having a second one of these…
actually I might give my old one to my partner… XD

read the story, it was ok but not working now.

        • +1

not that I'm doubting you or anything.

But did you get the tencent version. The Chinese version flashed with global rom perhaps?

I'm checking xda forums and reddit and I'm not finding issues with the global version.

          • @xoom: I believe they fixed the later international model. But be reminded MI is likely a 2nd Huawei for US sanction. Worst case scenario is you guys may lose google support in a year or two while MI will not take the blame for losing Google support.

The Black Shark is ignoring the request from previous model owners.

      • +1

read the story, it was ok but not working now.

Going to be hard to find a big enough case for this bad boy, might have to use some of my rubbers.

    • True, case options are more limited than most phones, but the black silicone case it comes which is good enough.

      • have a quick look on Aliexpress. There are WAY more options available for this phone than anything you could buy in an Australian 'phone shop'.
check out the ironman steel cases, or the steam punk ones, or the military grade locking ones, or the red one tthe gaming controls slide onto…

In China, this phone's RRP is around $1100 so I just don't see how it is a "good deal" lol

    • -1

In China pretty much every piece of electronics is considerably cheaper. Are you going to stop buying anything?

      • +1

Is iPhone "considerably cheaper" in China??? I don't think so~~$1999 is just a ridiculously silly price for this phone.

      • If the boycott goes ahead, yes

        • Then you know what you should do now

    • Agreed it's not a good deal on ChinaBargain.com

  • +7

I would really try to stop supporting the Chinese industries. This is not about racism but about trying to stop their control over our economy. They feel like they can threaten us with reducing our exports to them ETC. I think as a whole we need to source production elsewhere. I don't care if it's Malaysia (like the Sony 1000 headphones) or even better local production. For phones it's hard but any little we can do to try take the dominance away from China will help.

    • -2

So its ok if Australia rejects and bans huawei infrastructure because of "security" concerns but when China does the same to our exports they are controlling our economy?

      • +1

we can do it and they cant, simple as that.

      • does Australia manufacture electronics for China?

        • +2

nah, we only do fish and chips and dug up dirty coal.

      • Comparing apples with oranges

Blocking the building of infrastructure is not the same as the blocking of exports.

        • Products and services from a country that account for GDP all fall in the same category and are fair game.

      • +1

Huawei’s infrastructure will compromised telecommunication security hence national security, that’s fact. Barley, coal, wine, lobster compromised nothing, maybe wine will compromised your ability to think clearly, like your comparison.

        • -1

Did you read China's statement on those bans? Im guessing not, as you probably only watch sky news. There were "quality" issues on those products. Probably the same type of "security" concerns Australia had.

If western allies can conjure up fairy tale stories like weapons of mass destructions and security concerns, why so sour when its done back to them?

          • +1

@mrvaluepack: Even bigger lol, you expect me to believed china’s statement on those bans, whatever mate, this is Australia enjoy your free speech.

            • -2

@[Deactivated]: Same thing with those "security" concerns. Nothing different was found when compared to other 5G equipment providers like CISCO.

              • +1

@mrvaluepack: Huawei develop “uyghur alarm” an AI surveillance technology, thats some high tech nazi stuff.
The point is they do that to their own citizen, I repeat their own citizen, and you expect we to trust them, that huawei is all good and dandy, come on give better argument.

                • -3

@[Deactivated]: By your logic we shouldnt be doing business with Boeing and Rolls Royce because they manufacture fighter jets and its engines. These equipment have killed thousands of people over the years. They are very bad and naughty companies which are responsible for mass murders.

                  • +1

@mrvaluepack: I don’t know what the heck you talking about, your reply just absurd.

          • @mrvaluepack: Australia is putting backdoor spyware in the steaks and grain they send to China?

    • +2

Their dominance is inevitable. This is what happens when you anger a giant: abide or be steamrolled.

      • Yup, same with USA and the Arab nations. Be friends with us or prepare to be invaded in the name of freedom.

        • +1

Lol, so you are using other nations action to justify your country behaviour? So it’s ok for you to steal just because some thief stealing stuff?

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: I identify Australia as "my" country. So im not sure what you are referring to. Plus im confused about the "stealing stuff", which was not mentioned on this thread. Learn to reply to the correct thread/comment. It helps with understanding your post…

            • +2

@mrvaluepack: Thats just example mate, you were saying American and arab nations invading other as justification to china’s action, so it’s ok to do stuff just because other people do the same stuff. I apologised if my example of stealing offended you, I don’t means you specifically. Being a member/citizen of a any nation takes more than identification, it takes commitment and shared value. It will be very unAustralian right now to support china’s bullying action. I believe in the supremacy of democratic civilian rule of a country, which I believed also the same values shared by every Australian. So me being sceptical of authoritarian brutal regime to even their own citizen is a very valid point.

    NO NFC?!? what the (profanity)

    • NFC is old.. you just don't realise because Australia is a technological back water
We only just start to implement the cool stuff, as the rest of the advanced world has moved on (see: InternetSpeeds, CleanEnergy, MilitaryDrones, etc)

  • +1

Real shame it's a back order and no stock available

  • -2

As others have noted, this phone has serious compatibility issues with Google services. Doesn’t take much Googling (lol) to find many such cases. This is not advertised by the retailer or manufacturer.

    • +1

Pretty sure that's the China variant, not the international one, though?

      • Yeah, it doesn't take much Googling to realise the problem is with a different variant, but some folks just wanna hate on things they can't afford

  • At 253 grams that's crazy!

  • +1

ahh tencent the most trust worthy of companies.

    • your games are belong to them

      • as oppossed to wha?? Epic, Steam, Microsoft, Ubisoft, …. hahaha Blizzard? when was the last time you actually 'owned' a game??

  • Need help deciding! This ? or a bottle of Australian Wine ?

    • Lobster with a side of coal

  • What advantages does this have over an iPhone 12 mini, purchased using a combination of $500 JB cards with a mickey mouse "porting" effort, and the vouchers purchased at a 15% discount from Coles?

    • It certainly isn’t bragging rights

  • Wow this is an expensive phone! I only like to spend about $500 every 5 years for a phone. Why do you guys spend so much on these?

    • Its a gaming phone, so each to their own i think.

      • +1

I see. So much like a nindendo switch!

        • Kind of, except limited to phone titles, with no exclusive titles for being a particular model (For example, Nintendo Switch would receive some titles which other consoles/devices don't have)

          • @Zackeroo: Ah yes, makes sense. Bold move by Xiaomi but I suppose they might love it in Japan/China where people are on the phone literally every minute of every day. I am convinced that people have their phone in one hand while busy with $ex.

        • +1

          very much the case.
This is basically an over powered switch that CAN make phone calls. but you're still (mostly) limited to mobile platform games.
not that any body plays it any more but, both the Switch and this are good for casual Fortnite games with the kids :)

  • Release price of $2k down to 1100. Looks like these phones maintain their value well.

  • $200 cheaper at Mobileciti and $250 cheaper at Sydney Mobiles.

  • For anyone with eBay Plus who is looking at purchasing this, make sure you check out this deal to save a bit more :)

Why support Chinese products when the Chinese government are banning/ or imposing tarifs on our goods into China?

There are plenty of alternative mobile phones not manufactured in china & without the possibility of ccp spyware.

    • Honestly I can't talk for the opinions of others here since I've never actually spoken to anyone about this topic…

But personally, I just don't care. This phone is really quite amazing and would suit portable gaming perfectly with the 7.1" screen and all. The only information anyone would ever take from my phone would be some login details to a game lol

I'm pretty sure others won't have the same opinion as me tho haha

      • +2

You do realise you said you don't care about China bullying the absolute crap out of us right? Your actual opinion or did you think he was talking about the potential privacy issues?

        • I was simply answering the bit about the spyware on the phones itself. China bullying us is another matter, and one which I definitely agree with. However, I wouldn't support Chinese products for no reason… It's just that this Black Shark gaming phone is seriously good :)

But don't get me wrong, I'm purely saying that I don't care as much about the spyware bit of things since I don't have anything private on my phones

    • +2

agree, please start not to buy anything that "Made in China" from today.
also, please smash everhting that "Made in China" from your household and tell your family to do so.

      • You'd be breaking most things in the home… Bit of a waste don't you think? :)
