[NSW] Free Sydney New Years Eve Passes for Occupants, Workers and Guests Residing in Green Zone (North Sydney)

21

Received below email from Service NSW

Hello

Community safety is the priority for this New Year’s Eve, so a restricted Green Zone has been created around areas of Sydney Harbour.

A NYE Pass is required to enter the Green Zone. You'll need to apply for a Pass if you’re planning to be in the Green Zone after 5pm on New Year’s Eve and you're:
a resident of the Green Zone, or a guest of a resident
a customer with a booking at a restaurant or hotel, or an event within the Green Zone
staff of a restaurant, hotel or office within the Green Zone
Applications for Passes are now open.

The best vantage points within the Green Zone will be reserved for invited frontline workers.

There is a Yellow Zone around the Green Zone which doesn’t require a Pass.

Some of the parks within the Yellow Zone will be closed on NYE. Please check with your local council before making plans.

Remember to physically distance and if you can’t, wear a mask. If catching public transport, wear a mask to and from the event.

So this year, make a booking or stay local and celebrate in your community.

  • You will need a ref code for applying for a pass though.

    New year by a bridge,
    just a seven minute show,
    it's over, go home.

I love Australia, and I will always love Australia. This however, is what I'd consider unaustralian.

Unsure where the bargain is here?

Unless the being rich enough to have a waterfront property in Sydney is now considered a bargain?

    • +3

I agree; it is almost the opposite of a bargain / deal, in that you need to jump through hurdles to get (what should be free) access

      • +4

Don't get me wrong - I understand why the local council / NSW Government or whoever might be restricting access to these areas this year to ensure social distancing or so there isn't a potential Covid-19 outbreak, but I don't necessarily agree with restricting it to the toffs that live near the harbour.

And it's certainly not a bargain that should be posted here. Perhaps it should be a forum post?

If the intent is to limit the risk of virus transmission, cancelling of the fireworks would have been a much easier and more effective step to take.

The white zone is for immediate loading and unloading of passengers only. There is no stopping in a red zone.

  • The wording is very poor.
"You'll need to apply for a Pass if you’re planning to be in the Green Zone after 5pm on New Year’s Eve and you're:
a resident of the Green Zone, "

You need to apply for a pass if you live in the zone and will be in the zone at that time. So based on the wording they expect you to leave your home unless you apply. So much for it being green!

I think they should have added, which they presumably mean "if you want to visit public/other places in the zone, or leave and re-enter the zone."

  • What was the original price of the Pass?

  • +2

    just stay home please

  • 17 new cases northern beaches! Hahaha they'll probably change this in the very near future!

  • Which covid safe zone will the Northern Beaches crowds be in?
