Existing customers called, they want their $10/month back

    • Agree existing customers are getting kicked in the guts.

Only keeping them for my parents as they need the landline and I cannot be bothered finding another NBN provider with phone included for receiving calls

  • +20

Interesting, i was just listening to a podcast about "LOYALTY TAX" the other day, and this is the kind of stuff we, as customers, shouldn't put up with. I moved to Superloop a few weeks ago, works exactly the same on my 25/5 plan and i am saving a lot of money. Of course, in 6 more months, i'll be switching back to Aussiebroadband. Just a word of encouragement for everyone, don´t put up with this and demand the better price or find another provider who is dropping to their knees to get you onboard.

    • +5

This inspired me to switch to Superloop as well. The ABB recent price hike for existing customers and price drop for new customers doesn't feel right. Might come back to ABB in 6 months or whoever has a deal at the time. The switch to Superloop caught me off guard as it happened within 10 mins of signing up online. Internet suddenly went down, restarted modem and was on Superloop, lol.

      • +5

Exactly. I was impressed by how easy it was. Called superloop, they moved me over in 10 minutes and then i called ABB asking them to make sure my account was deactivated and they issued me a refund for the remaining days.

      • What's the price drop for new customers? Thought that I got my introductory discount and new customers get theirs, but that we're both be paying the same base prices.

      • +3

Yeah, I was burned by ABB too. They jacked the price of my plan significantly and halved my upload speed to boot. I wont be going back to them. The quick switch to superloop impressed me too. Service has been fine.

    • Nothing new here. And still a one-sided observation. So long as loyalty can only be expected by clients, it'll be a race to the bottom… Everyone will play the short game. And we'll have an ocean of 'speccy' offers.

    • I haven't listened to the podcast but loyalty from a customer isn't rewarded from a customer's point of view because loyalty actually means "a willingness to pay at the current market price"

It's not in the company's interest to provide discounts to a "loyal" customer because a loyal customer is currently prepared to pay market price. If they discounted a loyal customer's fee they potentially could lose money that the "loyal" customer would have paid otherwise.

They would rather acquire a new customer or retain a customer that is actually prepared to leave.

In the end as a customer we shouldn't throw our arms up in the air about loyalty. We have to show the company that we actually don't have any loyalty.

      • +1

Exactly! I'm only loyal to my wallet

  • Is this like a metaphor where they pissing in the face of potential customers? /shrug shoulders or knees are bruised :\

  • +23

Nope. Join superloop with one of the random referrals and it's cheaper. Stuff Aussie BB and their price jacking to make their IPO look better

    • Does the random referral give a permanent discount?

      • +2

        Only first 6 months.

      • +2

Superloop discount for the first 6 months. After that it's back to normal pricing which is still cheaper than Aussie BB.

    • Superloop are on the ASX too.

    • Where can one find these random referrals?

        • that's only Six months……currently on $90 4G backup free SMG2 modem, 100/40 month to month plan on Telstra. Moved from Cable. None, I mean none of these so call plans can beat it

I negotiated such deal more than a year ago when NBN was still "new"

          • @neonlight: Superloop referrals are found on the same link.

That is a good deal for $90 :-)

    • They had to to make sure investors jump in to buy their stock. its a business after all.

Find me a solution cheaper with less config like AussieBB with local landline for receiving calls if you can for more than 6 months, with good service and no overseas call centre

  • -8

    No bargain listed

  • +4

    Switch to Mate cheaper.

    • I am on Mates and loving it. Great value and fast speed all day long.

  • What a load of bs 100/20 is…

    • +1

      Aussie BB have 100/40.

    • Why?

      • +1

pretty much same price less speed.

IE have you noticed how these 100/20 plans are the same price as the 100/40 plans we where getting years ago!

  • +1

AussieBB is getting large enough to charge higher prices than the little guys.

When my 6 months of the previous $10 promotion per month is up, I am moving to another provider.

    • Yeah it's true I wouldn't want to go with them now

  • Yeah maybe in 6 months ABB.

Just joined Superloop on 1gb plan from ABB a couple of weeks ago after the BF disappointment for existing customers.

There is no way ABB should be charging $10 per month more on similar plans when Superloop offers the same service.

    • Did you cancelled the Aussie bb before you moved to Superloop or was it automatic like mobile?

      • +3

Don’t cancel beforehand. If you’re on a connection that it ‘churns’ (FTTN/C/B or HFC) then schedule it a couple of days beforehand just in case. ABB usually get the notification that you’ve churned from them so should automatically cancel your account the next day or so. If they haven’t then call up to cancel.

With SL and a lot of other RSP’s they still require you to call and notify them to close your account once you’ve churned away.

When it comes to FTTP and FW, because you can have multiple RSP’s at the same time there’s no ‘churn’ process so you need to always call and notify them when you want to close the connection/account as you can have up to 4 different RSP’s who don’t know anything about the other 3 you’re using.

        Hopefully that all made sense.

      • +1

Superloop advice is churn then advise ABB once you're happy with the new connection. My HFC churn took about 15 mins.

  • Aaah Aussie - once the darlings of ozbargain now not what they used to be.

Wonder why they had to increase their prices ??

    • +4

they claim they're passing on increased NBN charges but why can other providers do it cheaper than them then?

'If it doesn't make sense, it's usually not true'
      -Judge Judy

      • +1

I thought nbn costs got cheaper not more expensive

      • There's no 'usually' in her quote.

  • +1

    Not a deal.

  • +1

I'm on $89.99/mo with TPG now. It's not worth it, is it?

    • +1
      • Sometimes TPG comes out on top too.

        • +1

Yep! The data has been like this for ages too, consistently showing no real speed benefit from abb over the likes of Optus,Telstra, tpg etc. The difference in speed between rsps is actually pretty small, Dodo/iprimus and iinet have tended to be a bit below the pack though but not much

          • +2

@yupyup: This is correct, I’ve never understood the ozbargain love fest with abb given this fact.

Though it is clear TPG, Optus, Telstra with their massive user base has more issues reported whic I assume gives them a bad name. But it’s really the law of large numbers, with millions of customers there will be bad outcomes and bad speeds for whatever reason or just bad customer service from someone who doesn’t care about their job.

  • +1

    This is not NBN100 (100/40) it's NBN100/20
    Beware.

    • -2

      That's a good point.

    • +1

      The code works for 100/40.

  • -2

I'm still happy with ABB. Truck came down our street and ripped down a series of overhead HFC cables to a few houses.
Neighbour with ABB - customer service answered in 10 sec, within 2 mins had everything sorted with a work request lodged with NBN to come out and repair the connection.
Other neighbours with other ISPs… a hour on hold and no resolution… 2 days before they could confirm an NBN work order…
    Sometimes $10/mth is worth it.

    • That's the reason you only switch to NBN from old ADSL or cable with them once everything is in place switch out after 6 months

  • +3

Switched to Launtel few months ago and never looked back. More stable internet, better customer service and cheaper. ABB is shit.

    • Wow, you've never had an actual bad ISP, have you.

  • A free month would be much better deal on this plan.

  • +2

I was coming from an old (really old) Telstra cable plan. It was working out cheaper than the NBN plans I looked at. Was going to go with ABB, eventually went with Superloop.

Now that churning to other RSP's seems like it can be done fairly easily and quickly. Looks like I'll be on the Honeymoon rate merry-go-round in 6 months time.

  • +1

Aussie Broadband WAS good, they're more like money suckers now IMHO.

    • Agreed constant drop outs, 4 times this past week alone in Melbourne. They suck now

  • +1

upvoted but yeah there are plenty of options for ABB existing customers..

  • Moved out from AussieBB, and onto Superloop now.

AussieBB had great connection (probably only 10~20 disconnects I noticed over the past 6 months and stable speeds) compared to my previous provider (matecommunicate who had daily disconnects and terrible speeds during peak hours. They were a nightmare to be with). So in that aspect I do respect them, but as many others have said, they are very expensive for their solid, but not perfect service.

They also cut me short by a day and 2 hours from their service and disconnected me even though I paid them for the full month in advance, so that is something to note if you guys are planning to go into this for the 6 months and out to another.

    • How's superloop going? Can you churn to them or do you need to make a new connection?

      • They were supposed to churn the connection but since AussieBB screwed me over by cutting me short by a whole day and 2 hours, I was disconnected before they could churn. So Superloop had to chat with NBN and make a new connection. Took a day without internet but the connection is pretty good so far so I'm happy with this deal:
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/578703

Next stop will be Tangerine or Launtel, then maybe Belong. I hate lock in contracts though so I'll have to try the month to month on Belong first and see how it goes.

  • -1

When will ABB realise the only way to retain customers is to offer loyalty discounts?

  • I use Aussie broadband in Perth. Need another connection for regional Australia.

Need a reliable connection for IP phone.

Can someone please recommend a good NBN provider that is not too expensive.
