Best keyboard for programming (without spending $600)

    • +1

Agree, very good keyboard. The mouse is not the best though.

      • Disagree; I love the mouse. I bought the set a few years ago mainly for the keyboard, but have fallen in love with the mouse.

        • +1

Mice is good until it breaks. Lots of people have issues with it. Mine died (the wheel to be more precise) in 1 year or so.

          • @niiko: Ah, fair enough. Mine is still working after six years (had to look that up), when I purchased the set at Officeworks with a price match for $83.60.

      • +3

Yeah nothing wrong with the mouse, and I even use it primarily with my left hand which it's not remotely designed for.

      • Agree. Microsoft Intellimouse Pro is a much better mouse.

        • While we are it at I use the Evoluent right handed medium vertical mouse.
That’s probably better than any of the above mentions

I use this keyboard at work as well, however I would say the best programming keyboard is easily the MX Keys.

The Sculpt is missing a couple keys from the right side of the board and some are in non-standard positions which means you need to look down at the keyboard to make sure you are hitting the correct key. E.g. Page up and Page down

For the price however, getting the keyboard and mouse combo - it's still a good deal.

I've been using these for years - exceptionally natural and they're the only thing I can comfortably use.

  • Sculp keyboard was great… In 1995! Who's carrying these around? https://www.amazon.com.au/Aproca-Microsoft-Ergonomic-Keyboar…

    • People who hot desk in their office???

    • Pitty that case doesn't look to fit the mouse.

The newer sculpt boards are better with scissor switches.

    • These sculpt keyboards are significantly more modern and slimline than the old Natural Keyboard 4000, which I also had several of.

      Highly recommended.

good keyboard, used to get wrist pain from using regular keyboards for long stints, very little pain since i started using this a year ago. layout took a fews days to be good with, another few weeks to master. i actually don't mind the mouse

    • The mouse is great.

    • +1

Same re wrist pain. This keyboard solved it.

  • I actually quite enjoyed using this type of split keyboard for gaming. In WoW, a game with lots of keybinds, It stopped me from accidently pressing the wrong keys when things got hectic.

  • Am I the only one who finds mechanical keyboards with a wrist rest far more ergonomical than these?

    • -1

Yeah i tried using it but the learning curve was too steep for me.

  • +3

I have been using this one over 3 years at work. I can't use anything else. Great keyboard and mouse set

  • I have these and the previous version but find the previous one better. Especially the mouse. Can't find them any more. Will happily buy again

  • I really like the keyboard but the number pad is a bit laggy for me at times, does anyone else have this issue? Any suggestions?

    • +1

Try a USB extender cable between the PC and the receiver. Sometimes there is interference too close to the PC case.

  • +2

I love these. The only drawback is the wrist cushion/fabric cannot be cleaned/washed or even replaced. So if you sweat a lot or spill something on it - good luck.

  • +1

Very good keyboard. The mouse that came with it broke after a few months but I didn't bother returning it as I got a Logitech MX Master instead.

I wonder if Logitech ERGO K860 is on-par with or better than this but it's currently too expensive to buy in AU to give it a try.

    • Did you have any issues using a different mouse with this keyboard? I want the keyboard, but have a different USB mouse I want to use with it.

      • I've used the Logitech MX Master both via Bluetooth and the USB receiver without any issues.

How is this keyboard for smelling?

    • Also curious how it smells

      • Update: fresh out of the box and it smells faintly of ozone and plastic. I would give it a 6.5/10. Much more appealing than the fart I did a few minutes ago. YMMV.

  • Can you get this without the mouse? I coudn't seem to find it when I was looking a few months ago. I'm on the fence with this deal, as I don't think I want the mouse.

    • I think they always come as a package.

    • +1

I didn't want the mouse when I first got this set, but it turns out to be great. Really relaxed and natural position.

    • +1

yeah in the US they use to have a keyboard only version, but it never got to australia.

  • Great keyboard. I've been using it for years and very happy. Just be aware that the mouse is pretty average. The left mouse button requires multiple presses to register after a bit of use. I understand it's quite a common issue based on other reviews. I've had two of the Sculpt mice do this and believe it is a design fault or poor quality mechanism.

  • For people with this combo, does it have a different USB receiver for the mouse? I'm left-handed and won't be using the right-handed mouse that this comes with.

    • Nope. Just the one.

  • i dont often love inanimate objects but I love this one

  • Got it from ow $114 last week…. seems it is their normal price

  • If you have a pair of smaller hands stay clear.

Also you will have problem on typing B, G, T and 6 if you did not receive any proper training in typing prior

  • +1

Officeworks price was $175. I got it price beat to $107. Awesome price for this Keyboard combo

  • yeah, I love this keyboard.. not a fan of the mouse.. got the logitech ergo instead. but hadnt stopped me from getting 3 of these sets. (one for work, and for the office, and one just for fun-well technically I bought this one before I new they had the 3 years warranty)

in the process of replacing the second one that had issues, warranty is pretty good at 3 years as well. first replacement was easy at the microsoft store, but since they shut it you have to go through the online customer service. a little bit painful but not horrible. They are apparently going to ship me a new one.

just hold onto your receipt. for regular use I recon they last 1-2 years before something goes wrong, or the wrist pad starts to shred.

    enjoy!
