SE really going ham with the mystery stuff. One day everything will be mystery on their site…

  • Might have to grab another NVME… Thanks OP.

  • +2

I'm in the market to upgrade to NVMe, and would bite at $109 for 1TB…

But not sure I can do that for a "mystery" product. That doesn't seem right.

Would most people here consider $109 for 1TB a good price for any branded NVMe SSD, even for the poorer performing ones?

    • if the primary purpose is gaming, won't see a difference between cheap and expensive ssd

      • +1

        Thanks!

I have a feeling it's going to be WD Blue (2400MB/s)?

        • SN550 is rated at 2400MB/s. If it were indeed that then they wouldn't advertise it as an interior product.

The Crucial P1 does 2000MB/s. Good chance it'll be that - which isn't really a deal since it's around Amazon pricing (with far better customer service).

      • +1

You will over time if sustained reads suck. Next gen graphics will be relying on DMA features to quickly move data directly to the GPU.

        • if there is no discern difference between sata and nvme, I highly doubt what you're saying will be true

          • +2

@ln28909: There are differences, but the reason why you don't see them in real world scenarios is because of the lack of uptake in the technologies I just described.

Take a look at DirectStorage, and understand why you'll want to invest in at least a decent PCIE 3.0 NVMe drive.

The same technology has been advertised for the PS5 and XBox Series lineup for years now.

With NAND prices continuing to tumble, it's worth sitting back a while and getting something like an SN750 or SX8200 Pro for $130 than settling for something that barely registers in that speed class.

            • +1

@jasswolf: lol, the waiting game, not my cup of tea

              • +2

@ln28909: It could be days… most of these deals are shit and a $90 USD drive would meet this criteria right now.

Let's see what unfolds with Amazon and eBay, because SE have always been douchebags with their sales picking, and covid has seen them get dodgy with pricing now too.

But again, go read about DirectStorage.

                • -1

@jasswolf: well I use gen 4 anyway, so whatever lol, overkill is my goal

    • +5

Keep in mind that you still need to pay shipping & SE charges a CC fee I think, so you're probably looking closer to $120 delivered. For $15-20 more you will often find the Kingston A2000 on sale which is a great drive and at least you know what you're getting.

      • -2

In relative term, that's an extra 10-15%

        • Fair, but also in real terms that's like a maccas meal which I'd be happy to fork out lol

          • -1

@currentfad: yeah but then you can just say, could get wd black or 970 evo for $180, just a meal at the restaurant difference

    • at 109 for 1tb is already cheap as chips for any brand

  • +16

Is this legal? Kind of constitutes a form of gambling and they’d need licenses for this sort of stuff.

    • not sure, but it should be clearly specified when you place the order.

    • +3

Don't think so as gambling would be a super low cost of entry ($1, $5, $10 etc), with a possibility of winning, and a possibility of losing and not getting anything at all. In this case, you are getting something, you just don't know which brand. So even an Easter showbag would be more of a gamble than this shopping express mystery brand.

    • +2

Yes its legal. The legality of such things was challenged when some airlines offered mystery flight deals a few years ago and so long as it is properly advertised and the buyer is made to understand there is no problem.

    • +1

They say no returns are possible, I am wondering, is that legal?

      • It is. A store doesn't have to offer refunds on unopened products/replacements for change-of-mind on unopened products. However, generally speaking the big stores (like JB Hi-Fi) offer 30 day returns on unopened products because it incentivizes you to spend with peace of mind ('I can just return it if it's not right'). When it comes to tech, I would strongly advise against buying something you don't know that you also can't return.

  • +4

    What's next, mystery PC cases?

  • +13

Let’s see a deal with mystery shipping carrier. They should just issue a tracking number. We can then have surprises when
    a) Couriers Please don’t lose your item / actually deliver it
    b) AusPost items are delivered to home and not taken to the Post Office due to “non attendance”
    c) You start receiving junk mail/ scam calls coz it was through Toll and they got hacked again, or
    d) You’re confused because it was shipped with StarTrack only yesterday and your regular Auspost Driver is delivering it the next day

    /s

    • I believe StarTrack is part of Auspost now… "A business of Australia Post, we're Australia's leading parcel, freight and logistics company."

      • +1

Yea it is. A lot of people don’t know that. And their tracking is only sometimes integrated on auspost site.

    • +2

Ah, such dark humour… i have to add:

      e) Toll having the same "sorry we missed you" problem
      f) AusPost having weeks between a scan and suddenly it turns up the day after you slide into their DMs on twitter
      g) Delivery arriving at that one hour you think they won't show up so you leave to get lunch / dinner / coffee / gym / walk

Thankfully, my local auspost posties have really stepped up their game in the past few months. They actually buzz the intercom, wait for a reply AND actually wait that 1 minute it takes me to go downstairs.

  • +8

Their last black friday sale was cancelled and refunded due to no stock. You'd definitely get ripped off, only mystery is how much you'll overpay.

    • If you checked the last deal, most people got a ventus x3, so 3 fan card and one got a tuf, so the odd is pretty good

      • -3

I wish you the best of luck then!

        • -7

oh i'm not gonna buy this, 3070 is such a bad card in comparison with 2080ti, if you were to neg the deal based on that, I'll totally understand, but not cause of no stock

          • +1

@ln28909: Shoppingexpress has a habit of shady tactics, eg really good-looking loss leader sales, and then all of a sudden they realise they don't have stock and cancel and refund you the sale items. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice/thrice+, shame on me.

            • @navjay: well I guess rip the people that buy from PLE, sure they are always RRP but when are you gonna get what you order

Pretty much the only faultless retailer is amazon

              • @ln28909: I've had no dodgy cancellations/sales from scorp/umart/mwave/other stores. But, I sort of I understand what you're trying to say.

            • -1

@navjay: Hopefully you neg every single target lego product then. Haha. Been burnt a couple times with them. Took a couple to learn!

              • @BLB1984: I've got no experience with Target or Lego, but if they've done something dodgy similar to shopping express then feel free to neg them!

            • +4

@navjay: I agree with this. I bought their 1TB Samsung 860 QVO SSD on Black Friday for $99. Without any notification for one week, they cancelled everybody's orders claiming that they did not have stock (even though their website showed the same item was in stock just 2 days earlier). I reported this incidence to Fair Trade NSW and am awaiting a response. They are shady I would highly advise against buying from them to avoid disappointment.

              • @CYNDAQUAZA: Which payment method did you try? They wrote

Shopping Express reserves the right to refuse service; terminate service; remove or edit contents; or cancel and refund an order at their sole discretion.

We reserve the right to cancel orders any time at our own discretion.

in TC. I guess it's legal but doggy.

                • +4

@tedzozb: I can't speak for CYNDAQUAZA but here is my experience:

They listed and sold an item for a competitive price, then cancelled the sale stating that they were not able to fill my order since they weren't able to get stock this time. I asked how come the item was still in stock on their site and if they had any similar items in stock, however they ignored this and processed the refund a few days later. They also ignored my follow-up email asking for an explanation.

tl;dr: They refused service of competitively priced items but not overpriced ones.

    • Transfer or credit card/PayPal? Because they don't wait for a transfer?

  • +14

They should also accept a mystery payment for these mystery items.

  • +2

I think the SSD will be a Crucial P1. Better off paying a small amount extra for an A2000 or an SN550.

  • +1

the new way of selling to saps - (suffer after purchase)

  • +1

How about some mystery payment for your mystery deal, what BS.

  • +1

Bois. Please be careful when you order things from this seller. I ordered some parts on last Black Friday sale and I've not still received them yet. Unfortunately, AusPost confirmed that it is missing, so I sent an email to the seller immediately last Monday for a full refund, but still no reply. They do not also take a phone call either due to Covid-19 as they are working remotely. Is this a bull shit or not? I would say they should change the company name like "SHOPPING SLOW". I am so upset about this delay and I can't build a new rig now.

    • -2

the only way to have reliability is either you pick it up or you buy from Amazon. Pretty much all retailers have issue when it comes to posting

    • I've bought memory sticks there two days ago and got them today. I was suprised how fast they shipped it.

  • +3

    mystery NVMe 1Tb

gotta be one of those QLC nightmares

    • Guaranteed, unlike the product.

  • judging by the last time this deal was offered, an MSI 3x for $849 in the current climate sounds entirely reasonable.

    • +1

how many have you had? hope u not driving…

    • It is a mystery card, and they have 2x in stock…

  • +2

I am afraid most of people will end up with https://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/buy/msi-geforce-rtx-3070-… it is the cheapest RTX 3070 they have.

    • As mentioned in the post, most people have received the ventus x3 version in the previous deal

      • Maybe they didn't have x2 before? Why would they send people x3 when they can send x2?

        • Because they have more stocks of x3, and gaining goodwill at the same time

          • +1

@ln28909: Shopping Express caring about goodwill? They are basically scalpers with their prices for their RTX cards.

How do you know their stock levels?

            • -5

@Mistredo: Well how do you know they're gonna send x2 and not x3, we're all just speculating here

And if you look at it rationally, ple is the crime here, shopping express is actually the hero in all of this

There are times when you should scalp and not sell at dirt cheap price like ple. There are time and place for everything, the same action can be good or bad depends on when it is made

              • @ln28909: Mate, what are you on about?

There are times when you should scalp and not sell at dirt cheap price like ple

Ummm no you shouldn't. Setting a fictitiously high price and bringing it down to RRP with a fake "sale" is possibly false advertising. Which happens to be contrary to law.

There are time and place for everything, the same action can be good or bad depends on when it is made

No, SE's tactics are always scummy and despicable. PLE have been upfront and communicative (though they can do better) about long ETAs. Stop shilling for a scummy business.

  • I wouldn't pay 850 for a x2 card

  • Unless someone convinces me otherwise (very unsure about the shipping), I'm willing to bite the bullet for this one. Will update this once I receive it/get any updates

    • its a good deal as long as they send out a 3 fans card, i am cool with any brand but definetely not a dual fans

      • 100%. Even if it were dual fans, I don't really have any problems with that as it'll save up a lot of space inside my PC anyways

        • Do you care about noise?

          • @Mistredo: I'm deaf! Doesn't bother me, it's a benefit lol

            • @n3dd: In that case, go for it. 😀 It still might throttle a bit due to high temperatures, but you might lose just a few FPS.

              • @Mistredo: I doubt it throttling, this card only has a 220w power limit, so it's very easy to cool

I just got a ventus x3 running around 65C at 40% fan speed, so a ventus x2 running 70% fan speed shouldn't throttle

    • +1

Watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3lfXsa08CY MSI is the worst card you get, and if you get 2 fans card (high chance) it is even worse.

    • Well you're likely not gonna be able to buy anyway, last time this sold out in less than 2 minutes at a higher price

      • Probably true but that's normal at the moment. +1 for the post regardless thanks OP

  • +2

    OOS instantly?

  • +3

"Sorry, we don't have enough 'Boxing Day Mystery NVIDIA RTX 3070 Gaming Graphics Card (Mystery-RTX-3070)' in stock to fulfill your order. Please change the quantity on order in your shopping cart and click update. Then try to checkout again.

sold out in less than a minute

  • +3

Missed, sold out in less than a minute lol. There was probably only 1 or 2 in stock anyway.

  • +1

out of stock in 1 minute lol

  • +1

sold out in less than a minute lol

  • +1

    Ye sold out instantly

  • Calm down with the bots, fellas

  • +1

probs had like 10 in stock. Just a way to get people on the website and get them to buy the other overpriced items

  • You'll find out who got them all cause they will be reselling on Facebook marketplace

    • +1

"brand new unopened, selling because 'i have two'"….stupid (profanity)

      • There isn't enough margin in this, unless they got a tuf or something so most likely it's the people that'll actually use it

  • +2

I got one, but a bit scare if they are going to send me the 2x lol

    • You should see the one you got in your invoice.

      • Mystery-RTX-3070 Boxing Day Mystery NVIDIA RTX 3070Gaming Graphics Card

        • Yea that’s also on my invoices, still dunno which one they gonna send. Hopefully they can send out a three fans card it will be a great new year gift for myself

    • Damm you must have been so quick

    • Congrats. Did you payed by cc/PayPal or transfer? Maybe scared of "refuse service; cancel and refund an order" at first.

      • +1

I selected bank transfer, it’s normally the quickest cuz you can make the payment later

  • +5

Negging for problems with retailer. SE have consistently been at their stupid behaviour of taking orders at low prices and then going MIA before cancelling them. And the quantities for this and the 3080 were laughably low. Selling out within seconds means they probably never had enough quantity to qualify for posting the bargain and should have been in low quality deals.

    • +1

It's expected, if ebay can sell 100 airpods in less than 1 minute, perfectly understandable for a high demand product like this to be sold out quickly

  • +1

Insufficient quantity to be a bargain

    • +2

^ accurately describes the pc component market for 2020

  • shopping express / pcbyte / futuonline is the same company but different branding

    • +1

      Source?

    • Not the same as pcbyte, but also ks computer

  • Guys please update once SE send yours. I will also update once I receive the invoice, hopefully they send me a 3x

  • Said dispatch in 24 hours but still hasn’t shipped :(

    • +1

Email said dispatched. Ventus 2x oc. Sadly but I'm fine with this as well.

      • The only card that i don’t want :( gonna sell it at cost price
