The XR will probably get updates for another 4 years so works out to $175/year.
iPhone 6s launched in 2015, has iOS 14.3 so should be getting updates to around the end of next year when iOS 15 comes out.
iPhone XR launched 3 years later in 2018 so probably will get another 4 years of updates
The iPhone SE would work out even better $/year if you are happy with a small screen phone but our family all want phones with larger screens.
Agreed. SE is a great phone in its own right. It’s good in way that Apple has now provided a number of options at different price points, with different features.
XR has its own advantages, and will appeal to some - and this price should be a good one for those folks.

The downsides are much smaller screen (I think that’s one of the attractions of the XR) and no Face ID
Obviously more memory and a generation newer CPU

Got the shipping notification for this deal… I was worried when a commenter said we would be waiting until Feb!
We ordered three different colours. The white one appears to be a day behind in the tracking and is not in transit yet.

@emgee: JBHi-Fi have started updating the site. Some colours have run out and others showing running out so will just be yellow and coral colours soon.
Guess the deal will end as out of stock instead of expired.
Was funny when I searched "iphone xr battery life" on DDG and first result that came up says "If I was to pick one standout feature with the iPhone XR, it would be the battery life." Gather the 11 is even better but by how much depends on usage.
