Always love a good metabox myself. I'd drop the "gaming" tag here however, not entirely applicable. Neither a high fps panel (sensibly) or a dGPU. The 4700u can do some decent gaming, however not sure it's a gaming laptop.

Hey mate, yes the moderator added that by mistake.
I have sent a request to remove it.

      • You can edit your own titles :-)

        • +1

Thanks Twix, I seemed to have been locked out for a few minutes while the moderators were adjusting things.
          All good now. Cheers
          Kris

          • +1

@Kong Computers: Yeah sometimes you have to go back a page, refresh and do your edit again.

            • +2

@Twix: It was pretty crazy here at the time (I can laugh about it now), I saw the title update and the word "Gaming" was added to the title without us knowing.
So I tried to remove it but was locked out.
As I was emailing the moderators I thought that someone is going to have a go at me about having the "Gaming" word on there, and of course within seconds the forum poster "incipient" wrote exactly this point. See first post above.
              I was like….Doh! :)
              All good now :)

    • +1

      It's just been fixed.

      • +2

        Quick work! Great looking devices.

Also these are plenty for some basic gaming (I play poe, war3, CS, d3 at decent settings) but I would say that 16gb is the minimum if you're looking at games as the system memory is shared with the GPU. Going for 1x16gb stick for $99 extra (so you can add in another 16 later) is probably your best bet. Or throw in another 8gb yourself and then in a few years replace the lot if you need more.

        • Thanks, I had realised that the "Gaming" word was added on there and needed to be removed. It was a mad scramble to contact the moderators. I was locked out for a moment there so couldn't change it myself.

You were so quick to pick it up and respond :)
And I appreciate your polite message explaining it :)

Hi, any further discounts likely on any other models? I'm currently looking at the 17" NH77DC…

    • I'll PM you.

      • PM me on the 17"?

  • My old metabox was my favourite laptop. Lasted a good 3 years before completing conking. Wouldn't recommend for high intensity stuff like gaming though as it overheated daily. Eventually the bezel cracked and the screen died

      talk about a ringing endorsement…

its like owning a VE Commodore

best car I ever owned… did a cam chain that would cost me $5k to fix, denied by Holden under warranty, now they are out of business

      AAA+++ car would buy again

      • +4

Aaah the VE, I still have a soft spot for the old VK Commodore. I loved that one that Brock had racing around My Panorama :)

        • *Mt Panorama

Let's just say every other laptop ive owned has been worse, apart from the hinge issue

    • We have two at home for the kids and they have been pretty decent (Two alpha primes, bought year or so apart) one of which is used every day for gaming. I was thinking about getting another with this deal but my lappie (Hp elite book w/upgraded video card) is still good.

In comparison, the metaboxes arent as robust, but they are a hell of a lot of value for the money

  • +2

Hope the built in speaker is better than the last one we bought last year. Laptop was solid, but by christ was the speaker awful. And I mean epic awful lol

Fantastic company to deal with, and Metabox is great value for money - build quality is a bit eh, but as far as price/performance goes its great

  • Any chance of getting an equivalent 4750U/4800U laptop with 8 core 16 threads?

Hi Rep, May I have the spec of the screen thanks.

  • NL50RU-R7 $979 model is Out of Stock ("404 / OOPS! PAGE NOT FOUND")
    https://www.kongcomputers.com.au/laptops/ozbargain-deal/ozb-…

    • dang! I noticed this too

    • Showing as in stock here.

    • Oops sorry, it is still available and is fixed now.
It appears that a data feed update knocked it off.
      Kris

  • Nice, what would be the motherboard? Is the battery is generally available OEM one or just specific to this?

    • +1

      I'll check.

    • +2

      Here are the details :)

The Metabox Edge is based on a design by an Original Design Manufacturer called Clevo, who are the manufacturers of the laptop. The design of the motherboard and all of it's internal components are proprietary to Clevo and specifically designed for the respective model. It's not an off-the-shelf or generic motherboard.

In relation to the battery, Metabox keep a very good running cache of spare parts for their laptop models. And typically within the 5 year mark from launch of product, obtaining spare parts like battery's are very readily available.

On the Edge, the battery is situated under the access panel, which is very easily removable via approximately 10 phillips head screws that secure it.

      I hope this helps.
      Kris

Thanks mate for the detailed info.

  • @Kong Computers
I'm after a Metabox Alpha-X NH77DC with a single 16GB ram and a single Western Digital Blue SN550 1TB PCIe NVME M.2 SSD in it. No other options. Any further discount possible?

(I'm in Perth so can collect from Metabox HQ myself)

    • Hi hangflyer,
      Can you PM me.

Hi there! I’m looking to spend around 2000$ AUD on a Metabox computer. Any good deals going?

  • Just looking at buying one and I see at a couple https://www.kongcomputers.com.au/laptops/ozbargain-deal/ozb-… and https://www.kongcomputers.com.au/laptops/ozbargain-deal/ozb-… one 16GB ram costs 99 and two costs 299.

    Is that an error?

    • +1

      Is that an error?

That just reflects different discounts as part of the Metabox Boxing Day sale. If you look at the original Metabox site (more expensive), prices are as follows: https://www.metabox.com.au/store/b322/Metabox-Edge-NL50RU-R5…

      16GB DDR4 3200MHZ (1 x 16GB) $99.00 (was $249)
      32GB DDR4 3200MHZ (2 x 16GB) $299.00 (was $579)

Why the extra cost for 2 vs 1? Who knows, maybe it's extra labour to install the 2nd SODIMM and test the Dual Channel config?
If you want, you can always buy your own SODIMM and install it when you need it.

      • Thanks for the reply. But do people really pay 249 for 16GB or 579 for 32GB ram? Seems to me there wouldn't be many takers.

    • Hi JH100, Thanks for the message. My apologies for the late reply.

Please remember that the +$99 price for 16GB RAM is an upgrade price from 8GB RAM.
For 32GB RAM, 1x16GB RAM is being charged at $200 each and an upgrade from 8GB to 16GB is +$99 (so $99 for an extra 8GB RAM).
      I hope this explains it.
You are more than welcome to install your own RAM, SSD, or Wi-Fi card in all Metabox laptops. It won't void the warranty.
If you are still interested in this laptop, I can arrange to put it back online for purchasing :)
      Kris

  • Thanks Kris. I've been away for the last few days with no internet so missed this.

    Too late?

    • I've sent you a PM.
      Kris

      • Thanks Kris.
