Please stop. All these liquor cashbacks are turning me into an alcoholic

    • +2

      Its only amplifiying my alcoholism..

    • +3

Dude, its not that hard…all you need is pill power, nog to get orunk and dorder more……………………

  • -7

The cashback in the title should state what we actually get. It’s almost false advertising.

    • +11

Just following the established pattern here on OzBargain, by putting the cashback store's stated percentage in the title.

At least I've stated the "true" cashback clearly in the description, which some of these deals don't do.

(Also, apparently people here have said that ShopBack stuffs up occasionally and you actually get cashback on the GST inclusive value.)

  • +6

    Good deal.

    Question is, "will it track"?

    • +2

      50/50 place your bets!

  • +14

Last deal didn't track had to get refund

  • Dec 4?

    • +1

Too much booze being drunk 😉 Fixed now.

  • +20

still waiting for the investigation of the last liquorland cash back which got rejected for no reason. Won’t trust those guys unfortunately.

    • Did you pay/part pay with any gift cards?

  • +6

Tracking issues for me too with shopback.

  • +7

ShopBack tracking issues all day. It’s 50/50 if you get these tracked. If there’s no upsized cashback - 100% tracking…. suss

  • If I am logged into the LL site and have products in my Liquorland "basket"… and THEN after midday I click on the Shopback link to the Liquorland page, will that still work?

Or should I log out, and start again only after clicking through to Shopback ?

    • I (and others) have done so before and it's always worked.

However, it is recommended to start with an empty cart.

      ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • +13

Still waiting 35 business days for them to check my previous 3 transactions that didn't track. Never again.

  • Order placed, let's see what happens…

    • Ordered at midday, tracked a 5:30pm. Booyah!!

  • +3

Checking out kept failing with all my credit cards. Had to use Paypal. Wtf is the go.

    • +1

      Same for me

    • Happens regularly with me too. (Once when I placed three consecutive orders, the first two went through fine with my credit card, but the third one errored out.)

Haven't placed an order yet for this offer.

    • Happened with me too using Amex - eventually I just gave up

I was using the shopback app on iphone.

        Processing & Finalising your payment…
This may take a few minutes..

The payment attempt was unsuccessful (ref # 59974659)

        Enter Card details again
        (You will not be re-charged)

        • That ref # is the order number that your purchase will have once it is finalised.

I tried ringing Customer Support in early December when this first happened to me.

The team member had no idea about this error message. When I told them that the ref # was the future order number, they tried searching for that order in their system. Not surprisingly no such order turned up. (Their system has enough issues trying to find orders that have finalised, let alone ones that haven't actually been created. Sheesh!)

They said they were going to escalate the issue with my order and try to put it through. Heard nothing back.

          • @robinCTS: So clearly they just ignored it and didn't fix a thing haha. So many of these big companies are running the shoddiest online operations. Like where is the IT investment. Future proof yourselves for gods sake.

    • +1

Put an order through at 11:30 AWST. Same problem.

Had to set up a PayPal account and use that instead.

(Interesting aside: the order number (aka ref #) for the failed attempt is not reused when the order is successfully processed. It receives the next available one. That means that there should be a record somewhere in their system of the failed transaction.)

  • +12

My last shopback didn't track. I sent them a video of the entire transaction from start to finish including following all their instructions to a tee, such as clearing cookies. They went full Trump on me… LOLNOPNOPNOP TOO BAD.

    Never again.

    • -6

      Hey OzBrogains,

Happy to follow up on this for you. Could you PM through your registered email address?

    • +5

Why don't you lodge a complaint with Fair Trading?

  • +5

My last one didn’t track either !

  • +4

My two last transactions with SB didn't track. Bot rejected no real reason, all right steps followed. Getting out whatever balance I have and not using them again.

    • -1

      Hey sebasg91,

Happy to follow up on these transactions for you. Could you PM through your registered email address?

    • I got all my balance too after last screw up

  • +4

My last few transactions also didnt track with ShopBack.

  • My last first choice liquor promo didnt track either…

  • +1

My last amazon transaction didn't track and got their rubbish generic response about investigating it. I even did the transaction through their app.
Also not the first time Shopback hasn't tracked - had a previous issue with BWS. 2 out of 4 transactions not tracking is an appalling strike rate.

  • +5

How much negative feedback does shopback need before we stop posting their deals here?

    • 67 positives, 11 negs currently. Obviously the majority still appreciate them being posted and there is nothing making you use them. How would stopping them help you?

      • Would you accept same kind of error ratio with your bank accounts?

  • +4

My BWS deal didnt track and they came back saying they cant do anything about it. What a joke.

  • +2

Yep. Sick of these deals and tracking bonuses that don’t show up for ages so you have forgotten what it was by the time to check comes around.
I’ve also had problems with the other mob but not as frequently. And they have the audacity to blame the company, washing their hands of responsibility.
IMHO these businesses only make money from impulse buyers and failed (deliberate??!!) tracking

  • Great run down by OP, thanks for the effort. Unlike some here never had an issue with tracking so this is a great bargain.

  • +1

Last deal has not tracked for no apparent reason.

  • +2

    Some value options to consider:

From previous deal that now works online
Captain Morgan Gingerbread Spiced Rum 700mL 2 for $60
    https://www.liquorland.com.au/spirits/captain-morgan-gingerb…

Bells Scotch Whisky 1Lt $50 (Great drop for the price IMHO)
    https://www.liquorland.com.au/spirits/bells-scotch-whisky-1l…

Volsk Vodka 1 Litre $47 (Good value for a decent Vodka IMHO)

Smirnoff Red Vodka 1 Litre $50
    https://www.liquorland.com.au/spirits/smirnoff-red-vodka-1l_…

  • got a flybuys email for $10 of $40 :)

  • +1

Last deal didn't track, clearly a common theme for a large number of people yet Shopback is happy just turning a blind eye apparently. Steer clear people.

  • +1

Last 2 orders didnt track and it was declined when i submitted an investigation. Never again. Is there a way to hide all deals from shopback on ozbargain? Like an ignore button or something

  • Just got tracking notification 👍🏽

  • Ordered: 11:30 AWST
    Tracked 14:28:47 AWST
    Time taken: 2h 59m

(That's within my typical 2-3 hour window.)

  • +1

Thanks OP; $110 for 6 bottles of Chandon, with $21.82 of Cashback already tracked.

So approximately $88 for 6 bottles if everything goes through - which is $14.70 per bottle!

Personally I've never had an issue with Shopback and lifetime earnings of my account is at $470

That being said, I'm very careful (bordering on paranoid) to ensure nothing hijacks the click-through (e.g. ad blocker software) and that there are no existing cookies in the browser. I also use a different browser to do my initial browsing of the target store compared to what I use for the actual purchase (and before I do the browsing I clean the cookies to ensure there is no store user-account association).

Recently I've done all my purchases through their iTunes app; My process is clear all Safari cookies (Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data). I then uninstall/delete the actual Shopback mobile app. I then re-download the app from iTunes and sign-in with shop back credentials fresh.
Navigate in the app to website and complete the purchase within the app.

By reinstalling the app, there is no left-over state. Anyway - that is just my 2 cents and I'm in no way affiliated with shopback. I use cashback too.

    • Me:

      • I've never cleared cookies before shopping
      • I never use the ShopBack app for the purchase—I use Safari
      • I use Safari for the initial browsing and usually clear the cart before going to the ShopBack site (sometimes, including today, I forget to);
      • I always use a non-blocking VPN, usually set to an AU server

Haven't had a purchase not track yet. Lifetime earnings are $320 from June last year.

    • +2

Cool keep ordering with your methold and believe me no one immune from the 50/50 toss .
Have you bothered reading the thread of all that have ordered correctly in the past?

      • +1

For big-value purchases I'd be taking HAR captures and/or using a man-in-the-middle proxy like BURP to intercept all client<>back-end server traffic. That way if something doesn't track you can provide proof of what the client actually sent as far as cookies and request payloads and get them to investigate.

As someone whom develops enterprise cloud software for a living, I have no doubt there is a myriad of places where the transaction could come unstuck. Just to initialize the activity, they are probably using some combination of request cookies, with http referer request header and maybe CORS too. Once the merchant gets those identifiers, you are relying on the fact that the merchant website can maintain this data in a stateful way for the duration of the checkout process.

I'm curious whether people believe these cash back sites are stealing the click through / cash back monies. I'd be very surprised if there is not at least 1 person in the ozbargain community that works in back-end IT for one of these stores/merchants that could validate whether they (the merchant) paid out for a specific transaction that did not track. If there was theft going on (with merchant paying out but cash back site not paying out), surely there would be proof of this?

        • +1

I believe they are taking some of the cash for themselves and its included / part of their business strategy to hope that some people dont chase up or forget the special tracking purchases since you generally have to wait a couple of months for it. Intentional or turning a blind eye to issues reported…..hard to say.

Its like how voucher companies used to factor in people not being able to use vouchers due to businesses getting really busy (and only allocating 1 or 2 tables and in some circumstances not taking any bookings for vouchers purchased and using the excuse that they are booked out / too busy but they are actually empty and basically blatant lying to get vouchers sold and make money without providing a service… YES I actually caught a restaurant doing this and reported them). and / or people forgetting to use vouchers. I know the ACCC came down hard on voucher companies after a couple of years and they picked up their game a bit after this.

          • @lonewolf: I don't know how many stores/merchants in Australia are integrated with these cashback sites (100+ ?, Shopback have 1000s across APAC), but surely by now if there was widespread dishonesty in cashback sites not passing on agreed percentages of the commission they received for a transaction, the cash back sites would have been caught and publicly shamed (by someone working in the e-commerce area of a merchant providing evidence that they paid out a commission for a transaction or at least that they tracked it) ?

Are there any reps for merchants that have come on ozbargain and looked up a transaction and provided details that they tracked the cashback click-through and that the cashback site is being dishonest?

I just know that many people have absolutely no idea what can happen as far as their HTTP/s traffic, when you start involving ad blockers, virus scanning software, VPN and network routing rules (DNS redirection of 'ad' sites), not to mention proxy servers in enterprise that employ strategies like a custom certificate authority to intercept and manipulate HTTPs traffic.

I'd be curious to know if these cashback sites rely just on simple 'tracking style' cookies for integration, or whether there is more to it. Shopback won't be able to create a cookie for a foreign domain. They can either send the tracking identifier in a request URL or http request header, or load down some javascript from the merchant site that for example sets the cookie. The merchant then needs to retain that tracking identifier until the transaction completes. They either need to statefully store the value on the server side, or rely on a browser cookie to provide the value for each http request. I imagine different merchants depending on the complexity and customizability of their ecommerce system will employ vary mechanisms.

Either way though - if there is widespread fraud with these sites like people are insinuating - I'd be amazed that foreign investors would be putting money in to them https://www.mime.asia/shopback-closes-us-75-million-advanced…

      • Have you bothered reading the thread of all that have ordered correctly in the past?

Sure, I've read every single comment. One can only trust that when people claim they've "ordered correctly" that they've actually done so. (I would suspect that whilst there may be the odd one or two who haven't, the majority have.) Also, just because there have been 15 people who've posted having issues vs 2 without any, doesn't mean that the majority are having issues.

Cool keep ordering with your methold and believe me no one immune from the 50/50 toss .

Whilst I can't confirm what the situation is with you, if you say only half of your purchases track, then I believe you.

However, since November, I've put through 11 (upsized only) orders and all have tracked. The chances of that happening if it's 50/50 are 1 in 2048. Prior to that there were 15 normal orders, all tracked. So the lifetime probability is 1 in 67 million.

Lets keep the experiment simple search CR and SB on right hand search of this page .
Count the negs on the page found
          SB 100 + negs vs CR 3 .
End of summary for who has the better tracking from members on this site .

Add on top of that notgotyourback standard generic response to complaints vs TA proactive action to explain what has happened .

Well guys I gotta be honest. I do sometimes try shopback and cashback for rewards but this shopback and cashback thing is borderline scam at least in my experience. Many of my transactions of higher value did not track in recent months. And when I appeal I hardly had any positive outcome. Therefore, voting as I feel appropriate

  • +2

Last 2 shopback flash sales didn't track (Groupon, Myer). Regular ones seem to track. False advertising. Stay away!

  • Ordered at 3.24pm
    Tracked at 8.36pm
    Collected order at 8.55pm
