"Ultra Certified" 8k HDMI 2.1 1.8m Cable $9.95 + Shipping ($0 with $25 Spent) @ Laserco

230

Stumbled on to this cable when looking up Laser as they are the distributor GTEK cables sold by JB Hifi.

I was also offered a $10 off coupon when first accessing the site.

Ordered on the 29/12/20 and they arrived today 08/01/21.

They bear an "Ultra Certified Cable" sticker but it does not feature the hologram (unlike the GTEK which did), so I cannot validate they have officially passed. Comment below quoting AVSForum suggests not. Buyer beware.

Will test them shortly but I don't run anything that is HDMI 2.1 in my setup, I just got them to use with my current setup that has HDMI 2.0 and needed eARC support.

  • uhoh… you used the words future proof… lol!

    • Exactly - how can they be future proof if they're only 8K? What's going to happen when 16K comes out?

      • +7

        That's what you've chosen to concentrate on…

Ok poor choice of words, "will work until HDMI 2.2 comes out"

        • +2

I swear OzB users have bots the sift through every post looking for things like 'future proof'…. Hahaha… The 8K LG nano post which was actually a decent discount got totally swarmed because of that phrase…. Lolll it's a no no… Will work till 2.2 is way better 😂

          • @scud70: Depends on what definition of "future" you're using.
Future could be next week and/or forever.

      • HDMI 2.1 supports up to 10K 120Hz only but it still future proof for you to use the cable for another purpose.

  • Thanks Op. Hopefully they are legit.

The advent of HDMI 2.1 brings with it a number of improvements over the previous HDMI specification, including new features such as dynamic HDR, enhanced audio return channel (eARC), and the aforementioned ALLM and VRR.

As you’ve probably deduced by now, your current TV almost certainly does not support ALLM or VRR, because it almost certainly does not have an HDMI 2.1 port. (Some manufacturers have added these features to older TVs through firmware updates, even though the ports themselves aren’t HDMI 2.1-compliant.)

    • Didn't realise that I may need a new TV if I get the next gen console.
  • Added some to cart, went to check out, now price is back to $79.95 :(

EDIT: Weird, now it's back to $9.95

    • Has been waiting the website load for awhile and now the price gone up :(

      • I just got one about two minutes ago at the low price.

  • Managed to grab 3.
Website and checkout is a balls up.

I have not experience with this cable but these may not be certified based on info in this thread:

    https://www.avsforum.com/threads/hdmi-cables-which-properly-…

    • Crap, just ordered 3.

If that's the case, refund time!

    • Not certified.
Hopefully they still meet the specs.

      • does that matter if not certifieD?

        • +1

It means they're cutting corners and it's a good possibility it won't meet spec. If you need to get the absolute most out of the speed (8k60/4k120hz) you likely won't get it.

Edit: also don't like to support companies that actively try to decieve.

    • Received today.
Hologram and QR code all check out in the HDMI certification app.

  • Thanks. I bought 3 as well. Does anyone know if there is a way to test the throughput of a hdmi cable??

    • Besides plugging it in?

  • thanks, got one, along with a DP to DVI converter and DP cable. Good prices if the quality checks out.

  • website is terrible like laser products

  • Thanks Op. Grab 3 for $19.95.

  • 3 for 20 bucks delivered maybe worth a punt…

  • Sweet looks good to me, grabbed one for 9.95!

    • Thanks for this forum thread…

I have contacted laser regarding these cables claiming to be certified even going as far as including a genuine-looking sticker, but they are in fact not certified.

      • Received a response from Laser.

I can definitely confirm that all our 8K cables are certified officially by HDMI as below,

        Image link

Very sorry to hear about your issue, this is likely due to the fact that we received special certification stickers from HDMI and had to manually label them onto all our 8K HDMI cable boxes.

It seems like some of the boxes may have been accidentally dispatched without the certified HDMI stickers labelled onto them, we apologise for the overlooked mistake.

Please accept our apologies for any inconveniences caused.

I have seen this mentioned regarding other cables where vendors would be shipping the product before the official stickers arrived.

        • Laser are going to mail me the stickers for my cables.

          • @klif-e: Just received mine. You are right, it seems some people had received their cable without labelling like the photo of post in link below,
            https://www.avsforum.com/threads/hdmi-cables-which-properly-…

I'm luck having my ones labelled. And (seems have to) downloaded the HDMI Cable Certification from appstore, and test out the cables are fine and certified.

However if lables comes seperately and could be sticked on anything.. how would we sure they are the cable supposed to be sticked on? Still looking forward to see if anyone of us could have a testing out.

            • @HAOOFE: Correct stickers. Look OK. Verified with the app.

      • Received today.
Hologram and QR code all check out in the HDMI certification app.

Has anyone tested it on a new TV with HDMI 2.1?
Pity I still have an old TV

      • +1

I tried it on my LG C9 oled 65-inch TV and Nvidia pro, it works perfectly fine.

  • There is a QR certification sticker placed over the certification that is printed on teh box. Looks good tho

  • Any leads to a similar HDMI for similar price?
