Been on the Indian plan for several years.

Nice additional saving with šŸ‡¦šŸ‡· youtube, but in fear of rocking the boat when I'm already on a good thing, I think I'll stay put.

    • +1

I tried moving my Netflix and it was a disaster, credit card wouldn't process second time for some reason. Tried a few of my cards with no joy, tried my misses and it worked. I suspect the bank block it once you try to make a similar purchase?

So yes, I won't be rocking the boat…

      • Precisely my concern!

  • Can you still use Aus Google pay and Aus Google Play store?

    • Yup. I have the indian version and use google pay/play store everyday.

  • +6

So can I use my main account or do I make a new google account

  • +3

Do you create a new account or can you link your existing Google account?

    • I linked my existing account. The billing address will have to be in Argentina.

      • How do you link your existing account? When I tried to sign up with my existing account, it says I already have a subscription. Do I have to cancel the Australian one before signing up for the Argentina one?

  • Any free vpn I can use to sign up?

    • +6

Tunnelbear has Argentina. I get 5gb data free each month with them.

      • Thanks mate

        • Since it was a promotion which upgraded my ā€œfreeā€ account to 5gb per month. New users now will be 500mb and an extra 1GB if you tweet about it

          • +1

@Griffindinho: Tunnel Bear gives me a Colombian ip for Argentina…. is it just me?

            • @Pelta: Me too, according to whatismyipaddress.com, but when I went to YouTube, it showed pricing in ARS and pre-filled the address with Argentina as the country.

              • @TaylorN: Thanks for your answer.
I was trying to get a Spotify Premium account, Iā€™m actually from Argentina and still have a credit card, but when I try to change the country it shows as Colombia…. Iā€™m gonna have to get a proper vpn…. still cheaper than paying the Australian Spotify hahahaha

  • +1

Can you do this with your existing YouTube account, or must you set up a new account?

    • You can use your existing. It's just a different billing location.

  • What cards have no exchange fee?

    • +3

One of the favourites around here is the 28Ā° Mastercard from Latitude Financial, but if you have a card already just check the T&Cs and it should clearly outline any charges associated with international transactions. If there are charges then speak to your card issuer to see if they can offer you one that doesn't; be warned, though, many of them are 'premium' cards which also charge yearly fees. TANSTAAFL

    • ING Orange Every Day if you want a Visa Debit instead of a Credit card - you need to deposit $1,000 a month to get the international fees rebated.

      • +1

ING have advised they will be raising the requirement of this card shortly to get bonus interest and features such as no international fees.

        • +1

Do you have a source for this - have they indicated what the new requirements are going to be? I am in the middle of rearranging my banking, don't want to get caught out by a major change.

        • I have had a look around - they are definitely increasing the requirements for Savings Maximiser to get the extra interest (Balance must increase month on month to get the bonus) but I can't see any indication this will affect the Orange Everyday no international fees/rebate Australian ATM fees.

      • May not be fully pertinent to this thread but itā€™s also important to note thereā€™s minor differences between a straight credit card and a debit or bank card with credit facility. Sometimes the debit cards wonā€™t be accepted as a valid form of payment, even if it says ā€˜Visaā€™ or ā€˜MasterCardā€™ on the front (prepaid credit cards can have the same problem). A straight credit card, like the 28Ā° Mastercard I linked above, will have a much higher success rate. It irks me why this is the case because the transaction works exactly the same way with both - the payment processor can either take funds off the card or it canā€™t - yet financial institutions seem to want to segregate them all the time.

    ExpressVPN Argentina server:

Incognito window: 1-month free trial ā€¢ Then ARS 119.00/month

Regular window: 2-month free trial ā€¢ Then ARS 119.00/month

    Interesting

  • Not worth the risk. I hope that Google doesn't see this thread.

as if they dont know about this loophole already

      • They definitely know but don't care.

The YouTube sales manager in Argentina will be happy today. Big spike in paid memberships.

        • +2

Then this comment of yours contradicts your first one lol

    • Whatā€™s the risk?

If they choose to do something about it, they might cancel your recurring subscription and only let you resubscribe for the $12AUD or whatever it is here.
Absolute worst case I guess they could suspend your account and youā€™d need a new one (I assume this breaches TOS somehow..)

I think the ~$2 per month Iā€™ve paid for the last 6 months and likely into the future outweighs the risks.

      • will they suspend All members on the family plan?:/

      • +1

Losing access to years of Gmail and photos is a major concern to a lot of people I assume

        • This is why I'm considering doing this using a completely separate account just for YouTube. Sure I lose my watch history but that doesn't matter I've lost it so many times before due to YouTube's short watch history data.

    • What are they going to do if they do see this thread?

Throw a hissy fit and refuse to take your money?

  • +3

Soon USD will be worth as little. Their money printing machine has gone mental lately.

    • -1

What advantage we can take if USD keep rising?

      • None unless you have a stack of USD you want to exchange

  • Can you use your existing main account or have to create new one?

  • +1

I just signed up to a Family plan this with a burner Google account, and want to share it with my main. I don't want to change the region for my main account to Argentina as it will screw up my Google Play Store and Google Pay (I think).

Is there an easy way to add my main to the family plan without changing the country on my main? I tried this with the Indian store a while ago but had the same issue and it took forever to get my main Google account moved back to Australia as you can only change once per year.

    • Or would it be easier just to purchase a single sub on my main account since I didn't have to change the country on the burner?

    • +4

I did that with Youtube Premium Family in India. Created a dummy account to act as as the Family Owner, then invited my main account + other people. I wasn't able to get anyone to join my family, i kept getting some errors, something about not being in the same country as the Family owner.

So I deleted my payments profile from my google account, created an indian payments profile (via Google Pay), and was then able to join the family. After joining the family, i deleted the Indian payments profile and created an Australian Payments Profile.

Unfortunately this has messed up my Google Play Store, I can't download Aussie only apps, my search results are terrible, and it shows purchases in INR. Spent several hours with Google One support, where they said it's fixed, but unfortunately it's not.

At this point I'm regretting doing this.. Probably will leave the Indian family and hope it fixes my Google Play, otherwise I'm stuffed.

      • I believe you can wait a year and then change your billing location.

        • My billing location is Australia already. Play Store and Google Pay are both showing Australia, but something has gone wrong with my account.

        • You can short-circuit the year if you get the right person on web-chat. I just wanted get family and avoid changing region, which doesn't seem possible. Ended up cancelling the family account and subscribing solo on my main, worked no problem.

I was dying with the amount of ads they put in videos these days, it's ridiculous especially after coming off a premium subscription.

          • -1

@steinmeister: Do you mean while watching youtube? Install browser plugins. Search for: "Youtube ad blocker" in your browser plugins/add-ons screen in options.

            • +1

@[Deactivated]: PC is fine, but iPhone, Smart TV, etc…

              • -1

@steinmeister: Ok I guess if you say so it must be that way. It's just I did a search a short while ago and while I didn't read all the instructions because I have other methods to get around things, it appeared to have instructions to block ads on most of those.

    • You have to change your burner to the same region as your main.

    • Me too, tried a couple of cards :(

Bit off topic.. I am on the indian subscription and happy with except for 2 issues. 1. My youtube music playlist all defaults to indian music and 2. My play store doesn't always have the app as it shows the indian store..

I followed the guide to subscription. Main profile (not being used) is set to indian and my actual account is set to Aus.

    • You can create or use another gmail account just to download the apps you want from the store. In the store , switch to the account, and the apps for this country will be available.. this is what I do as a french with french account living in australia.

    • +1

If you go into YouTube Music settings there is an "improve recommendations" option which gives you some example artist names and asks you to pick which is your favourite. You can just pick the western music over and over and it'll get rid of Indian music from the main feed

  • Too scared to try, I'm still paying $10.99 grandfathered rate.

    • +2

I'm too scared to try because I already pay $0.

    • I was grandfathered into the 9.99 US version when I first got Premium (Red, at the time). The exchange rate made things pricier in AUD which prompted me to to change to India. It's way better imo. A whole family plan for less than what you're paying monthly, I mean…

  • Signed up last time this one was posted
Last payment back in dec was $2.90 for a family subscription and next payment is due to be debited tomorrow so letā€™s see if this reduces in price.
Worth doing just to not see those YouTube ads.

  • Through the Indian VPN it costs me only $2.45 a month.

  • Just to help some people from the last India post:

Thanks TA. Pulled the trigger. Now I can enjoy YT vid without those annoying as ads.

    • +1

If it was only just ads, then there's free apps out there that does the job.
They even let you download and play in background.
Newpipe for android is what im using now. Its not so great if you want to interact with channels and people though.

      • Not for all devices and too easy as 60 cents per month.

        • -1

Yeah cause finding and signing up for a free VPN, registering an account in India, paying using a CC, then changing the account back to Australia again, etc is so much easier than simply typing "Block Youtube ads on Chrome/Firefox/iPhone/Android" into a browser or "youtube ad blocker" into a browser plugins/add-ons screen!?

          https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&ei=6k_8X8usā€¦

          • @[Deactivated]: Itā€™s not easy to block YouTube ads on iPhone. Pretty much the only method that works is opening the YouTube site in Safari and using a Safari content blocker instead of using the YouTube app.

            • @ak47wong: Well I haven't read that link because I don't have an iphone, but it seemed to be saying you can. Maybe I should look at this red thing, but I just don't get what the attraction is. Someone just said there's not even any movies on it now.

          • @[Deactivated]: for pc and android is ok but on ios chrome, youtube doesnā€™t play videos in background and itā€™s really annoying and theres no alternative for yt.

            • @behrouz: Hm, ok. As above maybe I should look at exactly what this red thing is/does. I know it used to have movies. But someone here said it doesn't now. It's got me intrigued what exactly it does have then, that I don't already get free somewhere else.

              • @[Deactivated]: I just checked and I still don't get it. Online radio: so what. Plenty of other free radio stations online. Download movies: so what. Rip a DVD, download a podcast, a vodcast, etc, don't need youtube to do that either. No ads on youtube videos: so what. Legal browser plugins that Apple, Google, Firefox, Chrome, etc have been providing for years block those. Oh well.

              • @[Deactivated]: on ios i watch videos usually, alternative is facebook which got ads too and IGTV got rubbish videos only.
the better part is music and i donā€™t need to pay for expensive ones like spotify and also it has a lot more things.
                itā€™s really worth it.

On ios we only have telegram as I know to break all limits.

                • @behrouz: Hm ok thanks.

                • @behrouz: Sorry, what did you mean here? "On ios we only have telegram as I know to break all limits." (Can you word that a bit differently for me?)

          • @[Deactivated]: If you can find an article or video that actually shows an easy way to block ads on old Samsung TVs, PS4 or Xbox, let me know. Plenty of clickbait, no real substance.
I don't really mind ads because I do want to support the people making us content, I know you're against that though so happy to hear your feedback!

            • @nkbswe5: Ah ok I didn't realise. My solution to that would be playing it on a computer via a cable, over a Chromecast, or download it onto a memory card, etc.

      • Already had an adblocker on so I wasnā€™t fuzzed about watching YT on PC. This is more for the smart TV and iPhone.

  • Do you need VPN after sign-up, like do you need VPN for watching a YouTube video?

    • No you don't, only when you signup first.

  • +2

    Ā”Gracias che boludo!

  • Any free VPN for argentina please?

  • Does YT premium include movies?

    • it used to have some but as i know thereā€™s no more movies and tv shows coming.

    • No thanks…..the ability to watch YouTube premium synchronised across multiple platforms and devices (ie Android tv) on a very refined app (compared to Vanced) is well worth the tiny $ monthly subscription IMHO.

      • -2

Just stream Vanced to your TV if you really need to watch Youtube on the big screen. Much smoother transition when you want to continue watching videos between devices. Vanced > Youtube Premium.

    • 60 cents monthly for ios best video streaming app is fine :)

    • -2

Never heard of Vanced so I just looked it up. I'm amazed the lengths people will go to on here to save 5 cents, but then jump through hoops for something like youtube red…. but it gets better…. then I read just above it doesn't even have movies anymore LOL! So people are going to all this trouble for what exactly… to watch old stuff that's available a dozen other places for free!? Or to remove youtube ads? Wow. Just type "youtube ad blocker" into your browser plugins/extensions/add-ons screen. Or go here and read: https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&ei=6k_8X8usā€¦

And before anyone says it, these are all obviously LEGAL too. Otherwise the whiny safe-spacers at Chrome (Google), Firefox, Android (Google again), Apple, etc would remove those apps and plugins just as they have done when censoring everything else that doesn't kneel to worship them.

      • Vanced major PITA with Android 11. Just spend a few $$ FFS

        • How so? It's basically the same app

        • -1

Or don't use Vanced AND don't pay anything. ;-D

So what does Vanced do exactly… it looks like it allows you to view Youtube videos through their site but strips the ads out!? LOL. It takes about four seconds and three mouse clicks to load a perfectly legal ad-blocker plugin into a browser, and never need to go through this Vanced thing. Oh well, different ways of doing the same thing I guess.

    • What about the iPhone gang?
