I have the india subscription. Do I cancel it and join this? Also, do we need to pay the argentinean internet tax?

    • +1

How much do you pay for indian subscription?

      • I paid $2.39 Indian single subscription

        • +56

And you need to ask if this is better or worse? SMH

        • I use the Indian monthly sub for $2.33 and both my kids use my account only thing is it cuts one of us out a couple times and all I do is just play another song and im back on while the boys are still on my account.

      • Not OP, but I'm paying ₹79 for a single student Indian membership. I forget how I got onto a student plan. Works out to be AUD 1.40 per month.

My experience trying to move my Netflix subscription to Turkey from Argentina was enough to make me stay with an Indian Google.

      • +1

Agreed. My experience with Netflix wasn’t great. Couldn’t change from Argentina to Turkey due to not meeting credit card requirements. I wasn’t able to switch back to Argentina in the process.

I was lucky I had two Netflix accounts with Argentina originally. So the second account, I was able to reinstate it prior to expiry. (Note: both accounts was crediting the same credit card)

        • when you do this do you get a different netflix catalouge? or is it just to pay less per month?

            • +1

@DoesntEvenMatter: No you don't, if you were using the same account prior to signing for Turkey or Argentina, you get the same content that you were getting before.

          • +4

@iperezgenius: The Netflix catalogue is based on your IP address. I share my Netflix account with a friend in the UK and he gets the UK library, I get the Australian library, same account.

        • +6

I am a simple man. I just wait for a classifieds post recruiting family members in subscriptions, so I don’t have to fiddle around with the setup process 😂

          • +17

@skido: If you were real ozbargainer, you would sign up for Turkey Netflix and sell your family members $5 a month subscription

            • +1

@eastwood27: Laughed so hard at his lol

            • +1

@eastwood27: real ozbargainers are smart buyers. Australian Netflix only cost $5/Month per person under family sub, so why would someone pay the same amount for Turkey Netflix, knowing it is cheaper 😉

              • @skido: Aus netflix is $20/month (family).
Turkey netflix is about $7/month (family).

                • @Heybargain: yes I know, but if you a smart ozbargsiner you don’t pay $5 a month for a spot in Turkey sub

                  • @skido: Smart Kido, Turkey family $7/m, share with 3 others, simple math

    • Lol. You are funny.

    • +5

I have Indian Family Premium, costs me A$3.50 pm, for A$0.77 pm less I can't be bothered changing it, plus YT emails everyone on the plan to tell them it has been cancelled & then subscribed again.

    • +20

I am an Indian Youtube family.
We are considering a move to South America.

  • +2

It says YT premium not available in your country.

    • +1

      same here…

      • Try an incognito window (see here).

        • +4

tried with incognito and different browser still the same :-(

          • +1

@mmcs: Maybe try a different VPN provider (NordVPN & Surfshark both get me to that screen). I recall from the Indian hack that certain servers weren't allowing access.

            • +1

@tightarse: I am using surfshark. I think the ip that I got from them is not working.

            • @tightarse: Thank you so much OP! I have just tried it. It works perfectly :-)

            • @tightarse: Ok I'll try it with a laptop, I was just using von on mobile then chrome

            • @tightarse: I've got surfshark too, but it's not working for me, the argentinian server is (v)virtual.

            • +1

@tightarse: Any free VPN recommendation for this?

              • +4

Tunnelbear has Argentina. I get 5gb data free each month with them.

            • @tightarse: For Nord its server 63 in India

  • This cheaper than India?

    • Yep…latest month indian family account was about $3.40 for me

      • $2.34 for me in December. So nope.

        • +4

          Single or family (mentioned above)?

  • Good deal.

    • How does it work though? Doesn't google already know that I am in Australia because I have been paying in playstore with my account+card?

      • Instructions -
        1. Connect a VPN to the server India (I connected to Bangalore).
        2. Click on Paid Memberships (youtube.com), then click on Learn more.
        https://www.youtube.com/paid_memberships

Enter Indian address and pay by credit card.
Termination takes place under this link (music.youtube.com)
Example of an address in India:

        India
        Name: Blank
        Address line: My Place
        Town/City: Mumbai
        Postcode: 400070
        State: Maharashtra

So basically use a free VPN trial. I from memory I used Windscribe.

Unsubscribe and remove your bank card first. You don't need to wait till your account is closed. You can sign up straight away.

Each month they will take the money and convert it to Indian currency.

  • +22

i'm on India one. it's not worth the hassle, I guess.

    • Well it's 30c more or so for me…. so yeah I'll reluctantly stay on the Indian one paying less I guess….

      Edit, I'm on single

    • Do you get bollywood music in your recommendations lol

      • +2

I think only for the first few days

      • +2

I had them in both Music and YT videos for a while, but it didn't take long for them to stop based on my viewership.

      • I did for the first month. Now it's all back to content I'm interested in. Haven't seen any Indian stuff on my homepage for months.

    • I had Indian subscription for single, wanted for family but Indian premium no longer available for new users. After setting VPN to India, somehow it asks AED 23.99 for family pack from UAE! so went for Argentina.

      • VPN issue. You must be using Surfshark and Mumbai. Change Mumbai to Chennai and YT will give you price in Indian rupees.

  • +1

can't find an Argentinian vpn server

    • +2

      I just used Tunnelbear

  • do you think it can last forever, let's say ARS 119/month?

    • +6

      Nothing last forever…

      • +6

        … except death and taxes.

    • I used nordvpn 3 months ago and every month cost me cheaper the subscripion $2.86 for the family plan I wish I can do the same with spotity but it doesn't work I tried many ways

      • +5

if you're after single spotify you can go with vietnam spotify which cost ~AUD 32.78 for yearly plan, unfortunately, there is no family plan for vietnam region

        • +1

I just tried to get Spotify premium using PIA VPN connected to Vietnam for 59,000 Dong a year but it says I'm not eligible for that offer and gives me the AU rate of $11.99 a month. Can you please tell me how you got Vietnam Spotify?

        • +1

Yes I'd like to know if this is still possible?

        • It just says "Your payment method and country don't match." when I try to pay with either paypal or AU credit card. How did you manage to pay ?

      • Yeah tried it as well but no luck

    • +2

The price itself is unlikely to move much, exchange rate might. But even if it doubles it’s still peanuts.

I find that YouTube music is missing a lot of songs though. For example you can play the Australian top 100 YouTube music playlist and some of them mysteriously skip without playing.

      • Licencing issue? I get that a lot with some video playlists where a message is helpfully displayed in the player 'This content is not available in your location'. Basically, they don't have the licence to broadcast the content in that geographical location. I'd hate to be in charge of sorting out geo-based licencing for a content provider, that would be a bitch of a job.

        • Yeah almost definitely!

It’s annoying when you ask Siri to play a song and it repeats the correct song name but then plays something else entirely.

I do like how it continues playing similar music after your requested song though. That’s better than Apple music that just stops dead.

    • Just tried it now and its ARS179/month

      • retried with Tunnelbear …. success :)

  • So YouTube Premium is paid month by month? If so, is there no benefit in paying for a year in one go?

    • +2

from what i believe, there is no yearly payment

  • +3

Why not just use YouTube Vance or something? Genuine question btw.

    • +9

      Not everyone has android devices.

    • +15

Console, Smart TV, etc etc… For the sake of a few bucks, it's worth it

Though if Youtube Premium could cut the sponsor sections on vids, that would be great…

      • +1

Sponsor sections on internet historian videos are glorious though.

      • +10

May I introduce SponsorBlock. Users submit sponsored sections and then they are automatically skipped. You can customize it to also skip non-music sections of music videos and other things too. Fairly seamless viewing experience - certainly makes LTT quicker to watch.

There's a Firefox extension as well.

        • +1

Speaking of that…. SQUARESPACE is our sponsor

        • Whoa! That's awesome, thanks for sharing. Wonder if it exists for mobile..!

        • Did Erik teach you about SponsorBlock?

        • certainly makes LTT quicker to watch.

That would be ideal, but again I consume Youtube through a few different sources

Ah well, I know all about Squarespace, Ridge Wallet, etc lol

    • +3

Genuine question? Because YouTube Vanced isn’t available for iOS, for one thing.

Also, some people like to support content creators. I can’t think of any content creators that I want to support, but there are other people that feel that way.

      • -1

I thought when you buy YouTube premium, there is no more ads, mean nothing for content creator. Smart TV i use SmartYoutubeTV

        • If you watch an ad with YouTube Premium, the content creator still gets paid by YouTube, often more than what they would have gotten if you were shown an ad. So content creators would way prefer Premium over Vanced/adblock

          • +2

@Jolakot: How do you watch ads w/ premium? I got no ads at all. I always just assume the content creator gets some kick-back from YT for not showing ads.

            • @jkuang180: Skip not watch, I shouldn't comment when tired.

But yeah content creators get a kickback from YouTube, often more than from an ad, so can sleep a bit easier.

Part of the reason why YouTube Premium is so much cheaper in poorer countries is because ads targeted towards an Indian or Argentinian pay far less than an ad targeted towards an Australian or American, so Google expects the lower price to have a higher profit margin.

              • @Jolakot: Yeah, that's exactly why I am worried about the consequence if Google decided to root the cross-region users out. It's very easy for them to find out and Google is my primary account. It will be a nightmare if they block my account.

  • I signed up for the Family membership with the India one but had trouble adding others into the family. There were errors like already in a family(when using VPN to join) or not in the same country. Anyone faced these too?

    • I'm on monthly family India plan and did not had any issues while setting up family. I use my India bank account to pay but all family members are here.

    • I signed up for the premium with the Indian one, I was able to add members from Australia, India but was unable to add an account which is used in the US.

      • Thanks! But I’m using an iOS device though. Any workarounds?

        • Install Bluestacks if you have a pc… otherwise you're out of luck as far as i know… do the ultimate ozbargainer strategy and buy a cheap android, set it up, flash it, return within 14days.

    • I've tried everything but haven't been able to add family members to my India family plan so I will cancel my India susbscription and switch to a single Argentina plan.

      • Do you think it might work if we invited all the family members first before subscribing?
