[SUBS, Prime] Heretic (2025) Movie Streaming @ Prime Video

800

yes! I was wanting to watch this one. just added to Prime now. not available on other streams.
websites all say 2024, but it's just released in AU so really a 2025 AU release.

right after releasing Warfare, already another mainstream new release.
for anyone who already on a month and watched Warfare, you can add this new release to the list.

my synopsis: two jehovas witnesses knock no the door of Hugh Grant who is a bit deranged. he tries to give them a lesson in "morality" and "faith". looks like a creepy ass film.

Two young religious women are drawn into a game of cat-and-mouse in the house of a strange man.

    Just stremio it.

I enjoyed this one. Probably Hughs best performance. Probably wasn't acting lmao

    • +3

No way, a lot of classics made/distributed by them.

      • +3

Yes, classics like that Kevin Smith walrus movie. Lol

    • +3

Disagree on painting A24 like that, but this movie is definitely mid. The writers gave up half way and phoned it in.

    • I feel like their early stuff was great. But their later stuff is very hit and miss.

  • +7

I’ve pretty much stopped using Prime since they introduced ads.

    • +2

      same

    • +7

I just watch on browser and use an adblocker.

      • -1

        I’ll try that thanks

    • They have ads now?

Evil Hugh is funny as hell. He should team up with Jeremy Clarkson for a zombie romp or something.

    • -1

They are very limited, sometime just one minute at the start, and you can stop them with a small monthly fee.

      • +1

I already pay a monthly fee that didn’t include ads before.

        • It bothers me too, but at least you have a choice with Prime. The other streaming channels just raise the price every year. Maybe you'd prefer Amazon to raise the monthly fee you already pay by three dollars without asking? Surely not.

    • +1

I just paid the $3 a month. I pirate so much that it's nice to have an actual streaming service sometimes. Plus I share it with some people and I don't want them to suffer through ads.

  • +1

    Real debrid. You're welcome.

    • The real G!

    • Malware

      • can you explain it a bit more??

one thing I noticed many people recommend it don't mention is. #1 you need a VPN which is monthly cost. #2 debrid isn't free you need to pay for access per year.

        • Sure

          1. VPN = Malware depending on the one you use
          2. Debrid = Malware depending on the quality of third party servers you connect to
  • Jw or mormons?

    • You're right, they're Mormons.

This is a great thriller/horror movie. Highly recommend. The start has lots of talking, but you need to listen and pay attention! Don't be scrolling / distracted on your phone.

When I saw Hugh Grant as the main cast, I thought "meh", but he actually does an awesome job. Give it a watch!

  • +2

It's such a Fedora tipper of a movie, tell me more about Radiohead and atheism please

    • Please expand

      • -1

        hes too edgy for explanations

        • It doesn’t go far enough into discussing theology before the writers just go “ah f it Hugh Grant is actually just homicidal and crazy”.

The two doors room with the monopoly and Creep by Radiohead is the most fun part and the peak of the film, but it’s just a far too short section of the film before the girls go down into the basement.

There was no need for Grant to be slashing throats with boxcutters or keeping women caged in his basement, it is such a boring way of upping the ante of a character in a horror film and completely ruins Grant’s character, he is far more interesting as a non-violent theologists who has gone a little crazy trying to find the “one true religion”, and is now keeping these two mormon women imprisoned in a game of logic to test their faith, that is far and away interesting enough without the need for Grant to turn homicidal or be running a cult of kidnapped women.

The whole third act of this film deserves to be recut and the second act extended, because the ending is shit, and the main draw of this film is cut way too short.

@chepsk8: Theology is just a bunch of horse shit though isn't it?

            • @AustriaBargain: Well no, theology is a legitimate study, that of religion and faith and it's history, religion itself is a bunch of horse shit though.

              • @chepsk8: If it's a study of horse shit then it itself has to be horse shit though, yeah? It hast to be 99% clerics or pastors who want to spread that horse shit about, or people who share the worldview of them, because they think you need a bit more horse shit in your life. What has a theologian actually done to contribute to society recently?

                • @AustriaBargain: You should read city of God if you're interested, it's hard going but very worthwhile.

                • @AustriaBargain: Yeah sure man theologists are just horseshit faith pushers, absolutely.

                  • @chepsk8: Do you think the value of theologians is is important that the government should subsidise bible colleges and put thousands of theologians on public payroll? Not thousands, then how many? 100? Just one? Or would it be better to have one more nurse or doctor working in the public health system than even one more theologian?

  • Great movie. Never cared for Hugh but on this one, he's absolute perfection (acting or just being natural) and so are the two young religious women. 👏

Oh and lest we forget, still no bargain to be had here.

    • -1

So why did he need a blueberry candle if he had already baked a blueberry pie? Moronic script full of holes. Probably fun to make.

  • +2

I really enjoyed this, but there's one moment that felt like lazy writing near the end.

    • 100%.
Really enjoyed the movie, however felt like they dropped the ball towards the end.

  • An ok film, Hugh’s performance and 90 minutes of Sophie Thatcher make it worth watching, but it’s far from fantastic.

  • I watched it on a flight last week. I quite enjoyed it and agree it’s a real change from Hugh’s romcom days.

  • +1

im a creep, im a weirdo

    • -2

Between creep at the beginning and that sperg out about Israel last year Radiohead had some good records

  • Ah Hugh Grant, that notorious lover of BJs.
