Seen this at other stores as well. Heavily reduced.

I grabbed mine from Computer Alliance in Brisbane and then added in 32GB RAM and a 1TB M.2 NVME SSD from Amazon. All up under $700.

        If it truly is a "BEH3", you might need one of these, because I'm pretty sure the Aussie plug is BEH4. But the power supply is definitely fine

    I've been looking into Mini PCs recently, and this is very tempting. However I've mostly been looking into the Asrock DeskMini which supports AM4 cpus.
    $249 at Scorptec. Add a Ryzen 3400g plus 16gb ram and 250gb m.2 ssd gets the total system to be around $650 when all parts ordered from scorptec. I think the Ryzen system will perform better than this NUC at similar price point and form factor.

      That looks like a fun little box to built & useful for retiring older ryzen when you bought a new one. A shame it only supports 2.5" drives. I wanted to put 2 x 3.5" HDD in there and it'd have been a perfect little NAS box.

        Not much difference though in price for the 3200 one. So probably will just get the higher one im case i need to upgarde to a system that fully supports it later.

      The RAM will just run at 2400MHz on this NUC. Still compatible though. Timings will be higher unless you lower them in BIOS but I don't think it matters.

          Just keep in mind the higher clock speed ram also has higher timings. Probably won't make a difference for a simple PC like this though. Just get whatever is cheapest.

        I haven't heard of dual channel improving performance with Intel CPUs. I know it's a Ryzen thing. Could be wrong but I've not come across it and it is often mentioned with Ryzen reviews.

      I ended up getting the 64GB Patriot Viper 32GB SODIMMs. Didn't even boot. Blue flashing light.

      Put 32GB back in.

      EDIT: Reseated the RAM after booting from one SODIMM at a time and all is great! 64GB!

    So I grabbed one of these and it's a nice zippy unit. One problem is the HDMI has some sort of BIOS glitch, it goes into a deep sleep and won't wake the system, the screen just stays blank. The PC can only be accessed by restarting….
    Have searched and it's reported on many forums with no fix yet. I have resorted to using the usb-c port with a adapter to run the screen as a workaround.
    If anyone has a solution please let me know as I would like to keep the thunderbolt port free for future.

        It only happens after a long sleep period, like overnight. Its painful as I run some crypto staking apps 24/7 that I probably will need to migrate back to my RPI's

          What do you mean,"after a long sleep period"? Does it only happen only after the system is put into sleep mode? Its not clear what exactly is the trigger for this issue that you're reporting as you also mentioned running some staking apps 24/7 but I don't see how you're doing that if its in sleep.

          I'm planning to run my NUC 24/7 as a server/HTPC, so I don't anticipate putting it to sleep at all, so I might not even run into this problem.

            @Kenb0: When the monitor is attached to HDMI and it goes to sleep it will not turn back on. This is after a prolonged period of time like overnight or a few hours at least. If you search you will see that there are a number of reports even from launch of this NUC. Seems to be the chip or controller used for the HDMI. I haven't had the issue since changing to use the TB3 port with HDMI adaptor.

            I just ordered mine, seems like the NUC will run much cooler(and quieter) in this case. As this will be my HTPC, I didn't want to have to deal with noisy fans near my TV, and as a bonus, seems like it runs cooler too. Invariably I use these little computers for years and years(my old HTPC from 2010 is still going but getting underpowered, this will replace that) and invariably will have to replace the fans as bearings wear out, get noisier, etc, so figured this will be a nice investment for the future

            I'm waiting for amazon to get more stock of the Patriot Viper SODIMMs as well, seems like they're one of the fastest SODIMMs out there which will work well with these NUCs

              @bluebluebird: Yeah that’s my fault. I was waiting for the 2 x 32gb(2400mhz) patriot viper sodimms and as soon as it appeared back in stock last week, I snapped them up. They arrived quickly and I’ve been doing memtests on them for last few days, so far it looks great.

              I don’t know what I’m going to be doing with that much RAM since it’s primarily a htpc, but I’m sure I’ll find some use for it, maybe spin up a few VMs, etc

                  @bluebluebird: Just FYI, while I've been running the memtests, I could hear the fan spin up, enough to annoy me if it was sitting under my TV as my htpc. Now, during normal operation as htpc/sitting idle, the load on it might not even get very high that the fans need to spin up. Once i finish my tests, I'll be moving it into the Akasa turing passive cooling case I linked earlier, and supposedly that will be enough to cool it down without a fan at all, and end up being cooler overall. Just something to keep in mind.

    Let me say, this is an amazing MiniPC. Middish gaming performance (F1 2019 runs great for example!). Supper snappy. Very quiet (compared to my 2018 Macbook pro for example).

    For $900 all up (i5/1TB M.2/1TB SSD, 64GB of RAM) I have no complaints except I wish it drove 3 screen easily. No laptop comes close.

    Now to run up some virtual workloads in Fedora.

    If anyone else has issued with the HDMI port and display sleep/wake up then check your cable. I was having issues and a simple HDMI cable change fixed the issue.
    On another note I also will be selling this NUC as I had my desktop replaced under home insurance policy (lightening strike) so I don't need it anymore. I'll advertise it in the classified but it will go cheap.

    Looks like this machine is highly recommended esp. noise level can be adjusted. I am just worried if I am able to hook up 3 monitors with this usb extension (8 in 1) plug to the usb C to hook up 2 monitors, and 1 via the hdmi from the machine itself.

    I am not using for gaming, just need for home office work.

      3 monitors won’t work that way. Your only option is to daisy chain via DisplayPort.

    For anyone that is interested I have had my Intel NUC8I5BEH3 I5 8th gen on a smart plug with power monitor for the last 10 days, power use in total 2.1 kWh (PC only). I have slightly tweaked the CPU performance to a maximum of 85% in windows as I don't really need the full 'power' of the I5 in 95% of what I do.
    Will cost me less than $20 per year in electricity.
    Note, I ended up keeping the NUC as was getting some stupid offers (can't deal with low ballers when it is not me haha!)
    Decided to pocket the insurance money for the desktop payout.
    Also turned down the fan mode in the bios to quiet and teamed with the cpu performance limit it is very, very quiet.
    I really like this mini PC…!
