I purchased one on Dec at $1700 with two codes. But Dell now applies 25% off directly. It's way much cheaper than the similar LG 38GL950 and it has a better warranty.

Rtings has released the test result as well. https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/dell/alienware-aw3821…

  • Is there codes to take more off?

    • Tried 'AUAFFILIATES15%OFF' but it replaces the 25% off code.

If you put in the code "gullible" you get it for free

  • 6% cashrewards

Wow, that makes the monitor’s price down to the $1500’s mark if the cashback is approved

      • if the cashback is approved

        won't.

        • That’s why I used the keyword if and not when. There is a chance it may get approved though.

Of course the eBay deal that ended this week was more attractive because of the instant saving even it was more expensive than this deal with cashback.

        • I purchased today with cashback approved at 6%. Received confirmation email and is in the dashboard.

  • Surprised no Freesync on this!

    • I think it might be free sync compatible.
I remember reading the aw3420dw was.

    • From a quick Google, it appears it has Freesync compatibility (where adaptive sync is enabled in Radeon GPU settings) - you might need to install fresh drivers tho

  • $1585 with Cashrewards 6% cashback?

  • The ebay deal at this price ended a few days ago with delivery estimated 4-12 March. Dell's website on this deal claiming 10 days delivery. Goodluck!

    • Placed an order with a shipping date on the 11th Feb, if they stick to that.

    • fwiw I ordered this on the 8th and it's arriving tomorrow, ordered via Dell

      • Yeah let me know if you actually receive it. I wouldn't reply on their expected shipping dates because i had this delayed 3 times in the past.

        • Received it today, that's damn fast.

  • Can anyone who has this confirm there's no color temperature issues (half the monitor warmer/cooler than the other half).

And also no light blue splotches in random places? Open up Gmail and see if the grey bars run consistent from left to right.

    LG OLED 32/28

  • Picked one up as missed out on ebay deal - thanks OP.

      No worries.

  • If you wait long enough it will drop further…

Nano IPS from LG has pretty decent response time. but its contrast is such a pain

    • Yeh I'm sort of on the fence of whether to grab this now or not. Keen for that extra vertical pixel height!

      • perfect size and pixel density. just hate nano IPS panels from my experience with S2721DGF

  • I just rang Dell and managed to get it for $1,574.30 over the phone. Which I would prefer to do than rely on cashback as it was a pain last time I used it through Dell.

    • Did you just ask them and they gave you a price of $1574.30?

      • Yep, I said surely you can do better and that was what they came up with so decided to pull the trigger.

  • Shipping notification received today, should be here tomorrow.

Wasn't really in the market for a new monitor but hey, here we are. Thanks OP.

For those who want a similar monitor for 1/3 of the price with very similar specs in all areas. I can recommend this:

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/600221

    • Totally different specs

  • Would anyone have a rough idea, when will Dell monitors go on sale again after the current sale end? Did they ever offer 30% or even 40% off for Alienware monitor like other laptop/desktop deal? Thanks in advance!

  • I purchased a few days ago and already received shipment! Sadly it has one dead pixel.
Wonder if i can ask for RMA?
Screen is marvelous other than that.

    • Any color temp issues (half screen a different color temp) or blue splotches?

Dell have a no dead pixel warranty so you should be covered.

      • I'm no expert, but after calibrating and playing around I can say it looks uniform to my eyes and I am very happy with the panel. I've upgraded from an x34p as well which wasn't a slouch. Very happy with my decision and the panel looks and feel better on my eyes.

It does take a bit of calibration (high blues out of the box) but all very nice now.

Dell seems to have zero 'bright pixel' policy, e.g. 1 bright pixel replacement.
However for dead pixels its 6 or more.

I'll ask them anyway no harm trying

Thanks. Yeah I'd be going for return if I spent $1500+ on a monitor and it arrived defective.

          • @Shard: Yup thanks. I'll give it a go. It doesn't bother me so dont wanna stress out over it.

            • +1

@carbunkle: If it's not noticable then yeah might be best to leave it. Don't think Dell do more than one exchange throughout warranty period.

I went through four AW3420DWs, all had color uniformity issues and blue splotches. Returns was stress-free but I still need a bigger monitor (on a 27" IPS with no issues).

              • @Shard: Whats return process from a logistics perspective? Do you get a replacement as you return or do you go without a monitor for an interim period?

                • @carbunkle: The original monitor is collected by DHL, who from memory also deliver the replacement.

Both my replacements were worse panels than the original monitors purchased.

The replacement monitors are collected by Startrack, after which you get a refund - no more exchanges. Whole process for me was OCT-JAN and I always had a monitor to use till the last one was sent back.

I'm hoping I just got dud AW3420DWs because it was EOL. Nobody seems to be complaining about the 38 so might bite the bullet again next sale.

                  • @Shard: Hmm okay i see. Well I'm pretty happy with my monitor with except the tiny pixel but i never notice it. Might give it more consideration

                    • @carbunkle: I’m curious as to what percentage of these monitors have dead pixels. I have had two so far and both had a dead pixel. Going to try one more before giving up on this monitor. I would call dell if I were you and request a replacement, although I’m not sure how common pixel problems are on these.

@Sniffity95: So the last run AW3420DWs had panel issues and these new 38s might have widespread dead pixel issues…

OMG SOMEBODY MAKE A DECENT 34"+ IPS WIDESCREEN THAT ISN'T $9999 PLZ!

                        • @Shard: At least Dell would let you to do an exchange. With other brands bought from retailers you are on your own.

                      • +2

@Sniffity95: Fyi mine has zero dead/bright pixel :)

                        • @chew_chew: Hopefully third times a charm for me then! dead pixels shouldn't exist on expensive displays like this.

                    • @carbunkle: Is it a dead pixel or bright pixel? If dead pixel, you won‘t notice it but only with white and very light backgrounds when you look for it. If bright pixel then you might notice it in dark and black and that may need exchanging.

                      • @FrugalNotStingy: Can't be noticed on dark/black. Only more prominent on white and hard to notice on red/blue/green.

I think its a dead pixel.

Do you think I should bother exchanging? It doesn't bother me at all. Plus isn't their policy 1 bright pixel / 6 dead pixels?

                        • @carbunkle: If you don’t notice it and it is not bothering you then leave it. The thing about dead/bright pixels is once noticed, it’s hard to be unseen. Depends on how fussy a person you are. Yes, some people would say it’s an expensive monitor, it should be exchanged until a perfect one is received but we also know that with screens (be it monitor, phone or tablet) there is no perfect.

There are also variations in screens to consider. The replacement screen may not have a dead pixel but may have uneven screen tint, backlight bleed or worse IPS glow. If you have the time and patience to play the screen lottery then do it but if it were me I will move on.

I think Dell would do an exchange for you if you asked as some people here received theirs with one dead pixel were able to have theirs exchanged. Like Sniffty95 he’s currently waiting for his 2nd exchange, third unit because of one dead pixel.

                          • @FrugalNotStingy: Just an update on my second replacement, no dead pixels, but it has two stuck pixels next to each other that are bright green 😞

                            • @Sniffity95: Actually scratch that, theres at least 8!

                              • @Sniffity95: That‘s actually worse than a single dead pixel. What’s the plan now? Give up?

                                • @FrugalNotStingy: In a bit of a predicament as I’ve already sold my old monitor and nothing is really standing out to me besides the aw3821dw. If it weren’t for these problems it would be a great monitor. Might try again

                                  • @Sniffity95: How are you getting multiple returns on the one monitor? I was offered one exchange and then a refund.

Like you I'd gotten rid of my previous monitor and nothing else comparable was available.

I really wanted a non panel borked 34. These pixel issues are leaving me with no confidence for the 38" if it drops closer to EOFY.
