Bonus 120,000 Rewards Plus Points with New Platinum Credit Card ($3000 Spend in 90 Days Required, $0 Fee First Year) @ HSBC

1717

Edit: Multiple users have reported that this is a targeted offer for existing HSBC customers. You need to have received an invitation e-mail and apply for a new Platinum Credit Card to qualify.

New HSBC customers can choose between no interest balance transfer for 26 months (1% transfer fee applies) and $0 annual fee for the first year, or 84,000 Rewards Plus points but no annual fee waiver.

Update: based on comments, looks like HSBC may be claiming this deal is targeted.
If it helps, here's a screenshot of the email I received - https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/216608/86881/hsbc_excl…
Aside from the subject line saying "Exclusive" and the body addressing "Dear [my name]", there's nothing in the T&Cs saying exclusively to email recipient.
Apply at your own risk and take screenshots every step of the way - enjoy!

Just got an email from HSBC - seems like a decent churner. Also comes w two airport passes which hopefully can be used

  • So I've held a fee free online savings account with HSBC for years. Does this make me eligible as an existing customer for the full 120k?

    • +1

if you read from page 1 you will realised that we are all here basically in limbo.
you dont want answer from us in this case really.
      better call them

  • +5

Just would like to update people regarding my application.

I have their savings account and applied through the link in this post. I never got the email offer.

Today I got an sms saying I'm approved and the card is on the way but then when I check back this thread, it's marked as targeted.

So I went on live chat to confirm if I'm eligible for the 120,000 bonus points but was told to call 132 152 to check.

Spoke to their sales team and after being put on hold for awhile, they confirm that I'm eligible for the 120,000 bonus points!

Your post was a nervous read until you read to the end. :D

  • Applied and approved but it doesn’t look like they did a credit check - anyone else have a similar experience?

    • Also, I'm not an existing customer. I just gave them a call and asked whether this promotion applied. She basically read each dot point (120k points, 0% balance xfer, $0 first year fee etc etc).

Not sure what's going on with others applications :/

      • What was her answer after reading it all ? Lol

        • +1

She just read the dot points for the promo and confirmed I am eligible

    • The credit check will appear after a few days.

  • +2

Spoke with customer support myself and was told this is for new and existing customers.
One of the best cc deals that’s come up since I started churning

    • ok im calling again

      • Lol it sounds like the people working there all give different answers. They have no idea. They'll probably give you whichever random answer they think will get you off the phone quickest.

    update:
now after so many calls/chats from ozb members i think they gave up.

the guy said this supposed to be for existing but after it has been posted on ozbargain, they decided to extend to new customers as well.
but then you may need to do the application on the phone :(

    • Lol wtf

    • I might give them a call tmr to resume my application since i cancelled yesterday.lol

  • Dear customer who found our promo from ozbargain,

Unfortunately, your application has been declined.
Thank you for your recent application for an HSBC Platinum Credit Card.
Your application has been assessed in accordance with HSBC's current lending practices, and after careful consideration, unfortunately we are currently unable to offer you a HSBC Platinum Credit Card at this time.
The above decision is based on an overall assessment of the information provided in your application, and as a result we are unable to advise of any individual factor that led to this decision.

    • Lol I got declined too. Income more than sufficient and excellent credit rating

      • +3

I find that some provider like Citibank prefer that you have a lot of debt to approve your application. HSBC could be another one. Can I ask if you put down a lot of debt for this application?

        • You could be right. I had listed very minimal debt for the application

  • So are they still honoring the promo even though it was posted on Ozbargain?

  • "Congratulations, your HSBC Platinum Credit Card application has been approved" - it's on like donkey kong.

  • +1

Yeah I just spoke to them on the phone. The first lady said it was just the 84k points, but when I kept asking about the 120k she put me into someone in the applications department. That person them confirmed all the details in the OP (120k points, $0 annual fee etc).

  • Just applied using the original link and seems was approved. As least someone called back to me, asked some additional questions and said I am fine and should wait for a final confirmation. I asked to confirm if I am eligible for 120K points and lady said yes, I am under the promo.

    • The original link still has some codes at the end of it and that was fine?

    • are you an existing HSBC customer?

  • +2

I successfully applied for this card, I am not an existing customer, and I called up HSBC and they confirmed I was eligible for the 120k bonus points.

    • Was the application straight forward?

      • It was harder than usual with facial recognition steps etc but nothing too bad.

        • Is the facial rubbish required if you are an existing customer (savings account)?

    • Same situation. Upload of salary was a pain just like others reported. Eventually called and provided an address to email payslip.

  • I got denied for the ANZ card because I don't have a stable income, but I've got heaps of cash in savings and investment returns etc. How do people without a steady job get a credit card these days?

    • +1

      You don't.

    • Yeah pretty hard to.

    • +1

they go and find a steady job.

  • What is this facial recognition that everyone complaining? Do you have to take a selfies then upload together with your ID?

    • Correct. Online Selfie.

    • Wonder why they need your face for a credit analysis? 'Nah mate, not with that nose'! What's the ulterior motive here?

      • *alterior …and never mind. Just saw it's so you can use your face instead of a password and the crappy little login dongle they give you.

  • I got approved, but based on the previous comments I withdrew my application. The lady also said I didn’t qualify for the 120k.

  • Approved. Thank you OP, this is an underrated deal posting… Would give it more up votes if I could.

    • are you an existing hsbc customer?

  • +1

I'm so confused, so this isn't targeted now?

    • I want to know the answer to this as well.

  • The LoungeKey offer sounds like Priority Pass where you can go to a bar/cafe instead a proper lounge at some airports. Anyone know the max spending in Sydney's airport?

  • Saw this post first day when it was posted and applied straight away, without knowing it was targeted,(not a HSBC client) I did check the T&C but it did not mention anything about existing client only, didn't know it was approved until I retrieved the application online to check the status as I was not notified of the approval. Called them just now, told them the full story, they said they will honor the 120k point also 1st year annual fee waiver as I applied from that link. Staff were obviously made aware of this "incident" so I am quite happy.

  • Got conditionally approval. I'm surprised that my application was very smooth with both facial recognition and upload payslips steps.

    • How come conditionally approved as you look have passed ID check and bank slips. I got a conditional approval just now but I need to visit one of the branches for ID check. Wtf.

      • Probably because i'm an existing customer - currently still keep a debit account with them.

      • This HSBC mob is very strange. I got asked to do ID check (so I planned on visiting one of their branches today) but got an email this morning saying I need to submit payslips (which was done when I applied, ie, bank check).
I rang this morning to confirm the bonus points (which was confirmed with 120k rewards points) and told that my application was fully approved so need to do ID check and the payslip thing.

    • The application process went smoothly for me and I was conditionally approved. Received denial email a few days later. Had a feeling they just denied it due to Ozbargain post and mass applications.

      • Conditionally approve doesn't mean much these days with credit card.

  • +1

The ID verification step is shocking, ended up having to call up to complete my application. Good thing though, because they asked specifically where I found the deal "did you see it on the website, or on a forum?" (exact quote) I made up some story about how a friend sent me the link and suggested it to me, but I guess that's something to be weary of.

Got through the paperwork stage and proof of income, see how it goes!

    • I don't get it? The 120k points link is still active?? Might apply over the phone so everyone is on the same page from the start. Otherwise, I recon they are just going to decline these applications by default.

  • I have a saving account with HSBC (the credit card was cancelled a few years ago). I just logged in to my account and saw the offer, but it looks like I will only get 84,000 points. Is it normal? Or should I contact them for 120,000 points?

    'find out more':

    vs
    https://www.hsbc.com.au/credit-cards/offers/campaigns/platin…

  • I applied the first day this was posted using the link in the deal, got the card today and called them up and got confirmation that my card has 120k points + first year fee waived offer applied to it. NICE.

(New customer, never dealt with HSBC before. The rego process for me was fairly smooth, just one call from the bank to confirm details)

    • What number did you call mate? Did you have to wait long?

      • +1

        Called 13 21 52

waited maybe 2 minutes, if that. went with the credit card option through the prompts.

        • Thanks mate

    • I am in exactly the same situation, called the card application team and confirmed I will receive the 120k points also 1st year annual fee waiver when the card was approved, call them again yesterday to activate the card and was told I will only get 84k points and no annual fee waiver, ask them to clarify the contradicting information and still waiting for a callback.

      • When did you apply? I have the same problem with them. HSBC sounds pretty dodge with their offers. I still see the offer on the website, but they are in denial.

        • PS be careful with this bank: The offer says as quote:

          "
. Existing HSBC customers transferring from another HSBC credit card or customers who have held any Rewards Plus card types within the last 12 months are ineligible for this offer.
          "

Now they are saying it's only for existing customers.

          • @starlightshine: That clause is there the first day, but my understanding is that it is only a condition applies to existing clients if they wish to apply, in case they double dip. There is no where saying that "this offer is for existing HSBC client ONLY", hence it is quite misleading.

        • +1

Just received the call back from HSBC from the same staff I made the enquiry yesterday and he confirmed that I will receive the 120k points plus 1st year fee waiver, so all good for me.

  • Applied and apparently I didn't meet lending criteria but haven't been refused for any other cards before, ask them what I failed in and they didn't clarify, lies..

  • Can anyone confirm if there's a fee for adding an additional card holder? Can't find it anywhere in there terms and condition. Thanks

  • I received this offer via email today. So looks like they are actually still sending out invites?

    • Are you an existing customer?

      • Yes, have a savings and transaction account.

  • +1

I called the call centre today to ask if I will be getting 120k points with no annual fees and I was told that you will get whatever you applied for via the webpage you applied(if that makes sense).

  • Received my card today but there is no information package that normally comes with card and explains annual fees, interest rate etc.

  • I have read all of the comments and I am still undecided if I should take the risk applying for this one. It is the only decent offer available to me at the moment, but it could also be a big waste of time!

    • Me too. Wish that anyone would post their recent experience and whether they got the points and no fee. I guess the best thing is to call them before the application?

      Edit:
Literally says this now right under the first paragraph :
Available to new, approved customers who apply for the Platinum Credit Card.
Seems like they might have changed the wording? Definitely doesn't seem targeted to me

      • Applied, got my card. HSBC do things differently (as per others above, No letter of offer sent with the card). You get what ever the link you applied with says. Then, like others here have experienced, my first email I received was this very 120k points offer deal..

        • Sweet, so without calling up you got 120k? As a non HSBC customer?

          • @Bytelover: sounds like they got the offer after applying for the card

            • @[Deactivated]: Correct, this 120k points deal was emailed to me the same day my application was successful. Assume it's their latest promo that gets emailed out by default..makes it easy to use as evidence of the deal if required.

          • +1

@Bytelover: Nothing to say what I did / or didn't get. Almost spent the $3k (prepaying health, car, home insurance, rego, water, rates).. but I applied with the 120k /$0 annual points link, so I 100% expect that's what I got.

      • No they have not, the wording has not changed since this was first posted, I have screen shot it the very first day and it still is the same.

        • I bit the bullet and applied, unfortunately got stuck on the facial recognition thing.. It asked permission to use my location(?) which I denied, and then it just froze.. Now if I open it, it just says the facial identification has been cancelled, even on desktop. Might have to give them a call 🤦‍♂️

          • +1

@Bytelover: Update.. Got an email to give an agent a call because they noticed I was stuck on the application. Called them with hardly any wait time, went through the application a little bit and was asked if I clicked through OzB, I said yes. Confirmed the 120k points with the agent and got to skip the facial recognition thing. Just had to verify my income through their portal and got conditionally approved..

Would definitely rate this application, fairly straightforward and good on them for following up after my application got stuck for a few days.

Could one not say that they were playing around with the URL's, combining them, and hey presto:

    Promo 120k points offer: https://www.hsbc.com.au/credit-cards/offers/campaigns/platin…

  • Has anyone that applied through the link and been approved been charged the annual fee as part of the other deal rather than this deal?

  • Declined with sufficient income, no debt, excellent credit rating.
What’s up with this bank? What income/debt bracket client is this bank approving?

    • Do you have any recent credit enquires? My last one was 2 months ago and was wondering if they decline based on credit enquirers judging off similar comments to yours

      • Thats weird, I've had two on mine in as many months (ANZ and Citi) and they approved mine… that said. I have yet to receive the card

  • Not sure what others experience has been like, however I've just checked and I have received the 120,000 points. I am a new HSBC customer.

  • Hokay, so called up a couple of days ago after my application stalled
FYI I previously had a savings account with them but didn't receive the original email.

Call #1: Asked them what the offer was that i'd received (after asking how i got the email) and i said that i had a friend forward it to me - they instantly said oh, you'll get 84,000 points etc and aren't eligible as i didn't have a previous card with them or something. I then questioned the fine print which never stated that and they kind of went a bit quiet, i then informed them that i wouldn't be continuing if this was the case and they forwarded me onto another department.

Call #2: Asked again for clarification of the offer and they again asked how i received the offer and i stated i was emailed it by HSBC. They promptly confirmed that i was eligible for the offer and that i'd receive 120,000 points. WIth that i had my confirmation and 1 hour later had the sms come through saying my card was on the way.

Basically moral of the story, sometimes banks are just useless.

  • Anyone, is there any way to pay for the card without paying a fee?

  • How long did it take for people to receive their bonus points after hitting the $3k spend?

    • +3

I just hit my $3k spend today, nothing yet but will keep you posted…

      • I was expecting it on with first bill but nothing yet. I’m going to call up this week to confirm.

        • Yep, nothing yet for me too. First bill comes early April.

TCs say within 60 days but wouldn’t feel comfortable waiting that long, given how up in the air this deal is

          • @rambao9: Update: Had a Live chat option pop up while I was checking for points. Asked the guy and they said it takes up to four months… to check eligibility pre-approval and then post spend aswell…

            • @rambao9: Got my points 2 weeks after receiving first statement after meeting spend.

To confirm, I am a new customer and did not receive this promo.

  • Far out just hopped back in this deal and now realise I have to call up to confirm I'll get the bonus points. I'm a new member so will let you know what they say
