Bonus 120,000 Rewards Plus Points with New Platinum Credit Card ($3000 Spend in 90 Days Required, $0 Fee First Year) @ HSBC

1717

Edit: Multiple users have reported that this is a targeted offer for existing HSBC customers. You need to have received an invitation e-mail and apply for a new Platinum Credit Card to qualify.

New HSBC customers can choose between no interest balance transfer for 26 months (1% transfer fee applies) and $0 annual fee for the first year, or 84,000 Rewards Plus points but no annual fee waiver.

Update: based on comments, looks like HSBC may be claiming this deal is targeted.
If it helps, here's a screenshot of the email I received - https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/216608/86881/hsbc_excl…
Aside from the subject line saying "Exclusive" and the body addressing "Dear [my name]", there's nothing in the T&Cs saying exclusively to email recipient.
Apply at your own risk and take screenshots every step of the way - enjoy!

  • Received my card…and ….nothing else. Strange, as you normally get letters of offer, insurance PDS booklets etc etc.

Any ideas how you access the Lounge Key passes (I have Citi signature / Westpac Black - Priority Passes already). These sound similar.

Also, anyone found a link to the insurance PDS. Trying to see if they have any decent hire car excess cover in Australia (ANZ are great for this).

    • If you are still wondering about lounge access you have to register for LoungeKey with your hsbc card - loungekey.com/en/hsbcaustralia
They said you can do that 30 days after your account is opened.

Also saw reference to excess somewhere but haven’t found the details yet - ended up using my ANZ card to book a hire car yesterday instead actually with the 5K coverage.

      • Cheers. Yeah ANZ is better. I found a link on the website - $3k with HSBC.

      • Does the LoungeKey still work if the HSBC card is cancelled?

        • According to the terms and conditions, no.

    • I found the insurance PDS somewhere inside the general card terms and conditions. I think it's $6000 cover in Australia; there are different terms for overseas. You need to pay for the airfare with your card (not sure how that works of you're hiring locally). There's also different t&C depending on when you opened the account so make sure to get the right doc.

In any case, I hired a car recently using this, but didn't crash, so didn't need to use it ;-)

      • Cheers. I found a link for the T&Cs hiding within their website. It's only $3000 excess cover, and cars only. So it's better than some, but ANZ's is better… Well, I haven't looked since Covid, but was $5000 cover and would also cover the hire of RV's etc (requiring $250 spent prior on any travel to activate - hotel, flight, hire car, combination of both etc etc.

        • This is link I found: https://www.hsbc.com.au/content/dam/hsbc/au/docs/pdf/new-pla…

For domestic travel, car hire excess cover is $6000; $3000 is for international travel

          • @askvictor: Cheers for this. I didn't notice the seperate table for domestic cover on page 51. Thanks again.

As for activation, it seems you need to catch a bus, plane, train or boat to activate the cover (ie. we drove a relocation vehicle interstate once and then hired another after we dropped off the relocation. The credit card insurance would not pay in this scenario.

            • @tunzafun001: As I read it, it's only activated if you fly: "prior to commencing their journey, charge at least 90% of the total cost of their return domestic flight" and domestic flight is defined as more than 250km - can't see where it says anything about bus, train or boat. Whereas for international travel, it doesn't specify, so if you can find a train to take you overseas…

  • Seem to be more stringent with accepting applications. Accepted by virtually every other company apart from HSBC

  • Deal is marked as expired…is it actually expired? I was planning on signing up next weekend once I close my other 2 credit cards.

I'm an existing HSBC member with no HSBC cc in the past.

  • Anyone got points yet? Do you check inside their rewards portal?

    • +1

It will show on your statement and on your account.

T&C's state: "The 120,000 bonus Rewards Plus Points will be credited to your Rewards Plus Account within 60 days of meeting the spend criteria."

    • Got 120,000 points recently.

    WOO, GOT POINTS!!!

Then I was extremely foolish to go and redeem a gift card before realising that you get even more money by redeeming cash back on the card. I have no idea why it is like this and this is quite crazy compared to every other credit card promo ever.

Luckily customer service was able to reverse it which saved me $50.

To others, be careful what you redeem!

    • Thanks for sharing, also used my points for cash back.

    • My man

    • Does anyone know what counts as eligible spend. From what I remember, HSBC mentioned that spends on govt related services (like CTP/REGO) do not count. FYI, I used paypal instead (with my HSBC card in it) for my CTP/REGO. Will that count? Ta!

    • Does that work out to $550 in cashback?

    • How much cash back that you will get for 120K comparing to buying gc ?

      • Read the comments in this ozbargain thread and you will find your answer. Or click to the rewards section of your hsbc account.

    • Did they show on your statement?

    • Flagged this early on in the thread
      Hopefully people see this now

So cash back is the best conversion of the bonus points?

    • I, too, have this question.

      • I just went and did that.
It was better value than a gift card

        • -1

How much is in cash back vs converting to gift cards? (120k points)

  • +1

Got the 120K bonus points already

  • Just got the 2nd statement and bonus points

    • I got the 2nd statement on 21/4 but I still haven’t got the bonus points.
How long did it take to get the bonus points after you got the 2nd statement?

      • +1

The points were on my 2nd statement

        • Rang them and asked about the 2nd statement that I didn’t get the bonus points and they said I need to wait 30-60days for them to process once I met the criteria which I did. Not happy HSBC!!

          • @Unacceptable: HSBC just called me that I’m ineligible for the promo and that’s why I didn’t get the bonus points. They are investigating this but it’d be good know for those who didn’t get the points on the statements.

  • Just posted a deal on the added perk of 'Frequent Values Membership' with this card, for those of you interested ;-)

  • Hi guys
Does anyone knows if I setup monthly direct debit for insurance, does it contributes towards to the eligible payments? Cheers

  • I have got 120k bonus points as well. Thanks OP.

  • $600 cashback! hooray! thanks op!

  • Anyone know how soon will the $600 to be credit back to the card? I have redeemed the credit yesterday and still not on my card.

    • According to another thread, a few days. I've redeemed mine yesterday and also waiting.

      • yes indeed, I think about 2-3 working days you will get the credit.

FYI for anyone interested - I just got hit with the same promotional email from HSBC again. Body and link exactly the same as what's originally posted. From the comments, it looks like everyone got their bonus points?

    • Yep no issue at all for me with the whole process

    • I also got the email. But not everyone got the points.

  • I applied and opted for in-branch ID verification rather than the stupid facial recognition.

My application shows a tick next to Facial Recognition completed and I haven't been asked to do any verification. Existing customer.

    • I did facial recognition and then was prompted to upload docs (payslips) immediately after
      Approved the next day

      • I had provided payslips but was then requested to also provide a bank statement. Subsequently approved (still without ID verification).

  • Does anyone have a promo code for a BT at 0 % for an existing hsbc card ?
