  • I'm one of the poor suckers who bought this phone full price just months ago.

    • +18

[A moment of silence for our fallen comrade.]

    • Don't worry mate, you are not alone. I am also one of the poor sucker that bought the ipad with full price (last week), because my wife wanted something for V-day….

  • +1

f you wanted the biggest iPhone, I don't see how you could justify the $500-600 jump for the iPhone 12 variant of the same phone like some are suggesting here.

Excluding 5G being in its infancy, with my experience with 5G (with a Galaxy Z Flip 5G) at one of my workplaces I'm only getting 250mbps max.

I dunno if 250mbps (best case scenario too currently) + A14 alone is worth so much. They're trading blows elsewhere with the display, camera, battery life and I don't see many MagSafe chargers or accessories out in the wild.

    • I hear 12 Pro has a much better camera?

      • +2

Maybe there's a direct 12 Pro max vs 11 Pro max website comparison that I haven't seen, but extrapolating results from a 12 Pro vs 12 Pro Max and 12 Pro vs 11 Pro Max comparison I don't see a clear winner with my not pro photographer eyes. In some cases the 11 Pro Max produced better photos like through its telephoto lens.

        • I am in the apple eco system (although my work doesn't allow to use android phones) I have seen the new S21 Ultra has all the winnings against Apple 12 Pro Max except the Video capability.

Security wise I like Apple products and I willing to pay more for that. Again all comes to an individual Preferences

    • Speedtest on Telstra 5g just now 694mbps 12pro

      • Pretty impressive if that's an indoor speed, I havent tested 5G outdoors but with 4G my speeds would halve when I was inside the building

        • This was in my lounge room

  • +2

Yah! Comes with a brick :)
No need to fork out an extra $30 and waste extra packing that comes with the brick and the delivering box and the extra delivery petrol.

    Apple: it’s saving the environment
Me: REALLY? The old bricks does not support fast charging!

  • I've got it, (12 pro that is) its heavy, bulky and miss my old One plus 5t. which was slim , light and just as good.

the redeeming feature is the EXCELLENT camera.

in all other aspects including operating system, slimmer lightweight android phone is better. Probably better off with the google pixel imo.

    • Coming from pixel 5, nope. I am an android user for over 12 years. My first iOS device as primary phone just this month. I wish I switched sooner tbh

  • +2

I feel this is very expensive considering it's the last year's phone.

    • Yea same thought

    • iPhone 12 was last years'.. So technically, this is a 2 year old phone. And I agree, too expensive for a phone.

  • Sorry to hijack. Does anyone know where to buy a dual nano sim iPhone in Aus? It appears to only be sold in HK and Macau.

    • -1

      hijacking not allow!

  • +1

If they can discount that much suddenly, their prices are highly inflated to begin with.

  • 11 Pro max or 11 Pro ???

Which one is better value for money.

    • Pro max for sure, better battery life.

      • If you're not fussed about getting a 'light' or 'small' device, I would go for Pro max. Well worth the extra $80 for bigger screen. better battery life.

  • Hmmm this or the Samsung S21 Ultra

    • Ultra has better specs.
But if you are locked into the Apple ecosystem then ….. you’re screwed :)

    • +3

S21 Ultra definitely, came from a 11 Pro Max and have been iOS since iPhone 3G.

Things that I miss: iMessage, Calender sharing between family members, iCloud photo sharing and simplified system

Things that are better: Google Assistant makes Siri seem dumb, drag and dropping files from a computer, USB C backing up photos to a USB drive directly is so fast (God knows why apple still keeps the POS lightening port).
Multiple apps opened another great feature.

Was a bit of a learning curve but I don't regret it

      • Cheers mate

      • Use Google messenger. Just replace it with Samsung messages and enable RCS from the settings. Check the settings you might not even need to replace anything.
Mine works just like iMessage on Google pixel.

        • +1

Yeah Samsung S21 Ultra comes loaded with Google messenger as standard, they ditched their own messaging service. 👍🏻

        • But iMessage only to other very specific users haha

    • +1

my s21 ultra looks and feels very bulky

      • -1

So is the new iPhone 12 Pro Max

    • Coming from Samsung s20, if you don’t care about changing UI and just want a phone that works, iPhone all the way.

  • -3

Or you can pay $220 more and get the 12 Pro Max from costco.

    • +1

really think 128gb is enough for a 12 Pro Max? lol 512gb 12 Pro Max is $720 more.

      • I don't see the "lol" in this really. Depends on what you do. I've been using a Mate 20 pro 128gb since 2018 and still have around 20gb left. When the comes, I will move the files to my computer and can use the 128g for another 3-4 yrs.

Not to mention, $270 is still not bad considering that you're getting a new generation phone with 5g.

Edit: Did you initially say $270 more or did I misread that?

        • I get what you mean, I use a 128gb XR. But you're comparing a 512gb price to a 128gb price. It's not the same.

People who are considering purchasing this 512gb variant are people who need the space who uses it for vlog on hi-res or 4k videos. Not hard to fill really.

  • How many gift cards can you use when purchasing online with JB?

    • i would like to know also cheers

    • I pay this by 3 gf.

      • +5

You traded 3 girlfriends for a phone?

      • +4

How many girlfriends have you got left?

        • +2

          maybe minus 3 now…

    • +1

At least 5, did it last time

      • +1

        Yep I think it's 5. I was able to use 4 earlier.

  • -3

Pricey phone for a year and a half model. If it was around $1,000 to $1200 then I would consider it a good deal, just my 2 cents.

    • Given it will have major OS updates for another 4 years atleast and a CPU which is as fast as today’s Android flagships and a very competent camera, I would say its still a deal. Also 512GB storage which is plenty.

      • Overall a very good phone but 4GB RAM is insufficient (I am getting reloads with 4GB RAM especially after using the camera) as it reloads the apps and browser’s pages and as time goes by and with the new upcoming updates it will start to show it more. The Intel modem is also much inferior compared to the Qualcomm’s one in the iPhone 12 series.

    • +1

Years years ago, I used to upgrade my iPhone every year when they were below $1000. Now only upgrade every 3-4 years. Kind of less cost for me.

    • $1000 android every 2 years or $1300 phone every 5 years.

  • Upgrade or stick with my Samsung Galaxy S8?

    • Upgrade to new Sammy. Don’t get trap in the apple ecosystem.

      • Yep get trapped in google ecosystem instead.

FYI I’m using google on iPhone with no issues.

    • -1

If you don't care about subtle improvements in the camera department, I'd say stick with the S8 as you won't see a practical difference even with the S21 Ultra.

I personally was happy with my Note 5 from 2015 until I broke it a month ago. I would have kept using it for at least a few more years.

      • +1

The s8 to s21 ultra will be massive upgrade. Night mode , HDR computational algorithm and zoom capability will be a noticeable improvement in photography when shooting on s21 ultra from an s8.

You are kidding yourself if you think it a “subtle” improvement.

        • I don't agree. I especially think that the camera quality difference is not even remotely significant enough to justify the $1900 price tag. You could buy 4 GoPro Hero 9s with that money while still using the S8 for other stuff. You're not going to tell me that S21' s camera quality is anything more than a fraction of Hero 9's quality, are you?

I know I shouldn't be comparing two different types of device, and I'm not, I'm just saying phones haven't progressed enough since 2015-16 to justify upgrading. If camera is all your looking for, it might be better to buy a camera device rather than paying $1900 for a new phone.

          • +1

@DontNeedThis: Wife isn’t going to lug around a DSLR just to take snap shots of her desserts :)
The iPhone does this well with the bonus of YouTube, emails, music etc…

            • @congo: Have you ever seen a gopro mate? It's tiny at 158 grams. But yeah, if you're constantly taking photos, a phone is more convenient.

              • @DontNeedThis: Wife isn’t going to carry a GoPro & iPhone in her handbag…

      • You haven’t used a new phone have you…. even going to s10 after s8 was a massive upgrade in every way. Battery life was much better, simple things like loading websites was faster, camera was a huge jump with wide angle and video was epic.

        • New phones are better, just not worth the extra $$$

          • @DontNeedThis: Unless you keep it… new phones will have support for longer, will not age as quick, and have newer and often better features.

  • Why are 512gb on sale but not the lower capacities?

    • Same. Wondering if they'll reduce price for 256GB or 64GN variant.

Harvey Norman is also showing stock available for 512GB but at fill retail price still. So wondering if they'll clear it out.

      • Yeah I was borderline gonna make the jump with the unnecessary 512gb holding me back, I don't do vlogs, video editing etc. stuff.

        • Same with me, almost pulled the trigger (no need for 512gb as 256gb is more than enough). Let's see if/what they drop the 256gb variant to

  • +3

do not understand why someone spends this much on a phone

    • I recently thought I'd need to update, as still running a 6sPlus. Got Apple to install a new battery and its as good as new. Seriously consider refurbing your old phone… the prices these days for a new one are absolutely unrealistic. 2k for a phone?!?! hahahah

      • +1

Yeah, phone companies incrementally increased the prices of their flagships from $200 to $2000. One might argue that it's because the cost to build a high-end phone has risen up, but that's bs. the parts inside an iPhone 4 added up to under $190; the parts inside iPhone XS Max came out to $390. Thee hasn't been a 10 times price jump in building phones to justify the 10 time price jumpr in selling them.

    • 5 years with quality phone I guess.

  • +1

$4.99 shipping kills the deal. :)

  • I'm going to laugh at all the overpriced marketplace and gumtree sellers now asking for higher than new price lol :D

  • +1

    Thanks OP, upgraded from 7+.
    Great price.

  • -3

Only an Apple user would pay $1600 for a 1.5 year old superseded phone hehe and call it a deal.

    • +1

It’s still a pretty good phone apart from inferior intel modem chip.

    • Still longer support than android haha.

  • +1

Thanks op! Been waiting for a sale.

  • +1

Thanks op just bought for the mother in law with discounted gift cards as well 👍

  • +1

    Gold also sold out now

    • +1

      thanks, will update now

  • Has anyone bought it in-store if theres stock there?

    • not during this deal, as it is online-only

      • I checked with my local store yesterday lunchtime. They said online only as stock is only at their warehouse/being sent out to customers directly from there hence shipping cost/no free C & C option.

He did mention that they 64gb & 256gb versions will also go on sale within next month as part of their stock clearance (for EOFY in a bit) sale. Not sure how true this is lol.

        • Sounds likely TBH, I can't imagine there would be many iPhone 11 sales at the full RRP compared to the newer 12's

          • +1

@axeology: Yeah its just a waiting game. Noone in their right mind will pay $1900+ for an 11. Wonder if I can set a JBHifi price alert or something to notify me. (already set a search alert on OzBargain but it might not be posted)

  • +2

    Received mine today, thanks OP.

    • +1

No worries, got mine yesterday too :)
