[Afterpay] Gigabyte G5 15.6" 240Hz i5-10500H RTX3060 16GB/512GB Laptop $1,649 Delivered @ Wireless1 eBay

1080
PAPY10PLUSAY12

Original Coupon Deal

Very good price on this gaming laptop. For FPS per dollar it's surely the king right now, great deal if there's nothing else hugely wrong with the rest of the laptop

The 3060 inside has similar performance to the RTX 2070S

I believe this model has a 95W TDP on the RTX 3060, but someone might want to confirm.
240Hz screen is very good for gaming.

Note the i5-10500H here is a 6 core, not a 4 core like other mobile i5's. This processor is basically identical in specs to the i7-9750H (same cache and clocks)

Combine this with the $50 voucher on joining eBay plus here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/605726

Mod note: this deal was posted with an unobtainable price (originally $1619.10 ($1583.12 with eBay Plus). The title has been corrected to $1,649 as there was a maximum discount limit imposed on the coupon codes.

Is it $150 max discount with either of those codes? Both give me $1649.00

    • +2

      Yup.

      • +1

So why hasn’t the deal been updated? How do you get this price?

  • Good price.
I know this question may not relevant, but to compare with XPS13 laptop which is more robust?

    • +24

This is a gaming laptop, about thrice the size with thrice the performance. Totally different kind of laptop

      • +1

You deserve an upload but you have thrice times already

      • I'm after 4rice, what do you recommend.

        • +3

          Fries

  • Wattage of RTX3060?

    • I believe it's 95W based on what I read from some previews, but might be wrong.

      • This is quite low…

        • Would have been good if it was over 100-110 W.

      • 90watts on GPU

        45watt on CPU

        180watt charger

        • 90 watt is a bit low…

  • Any issues with battery, over heating problems random screen issues im looking for a good reliable laptop for uni and work

    • Well, it is pretty thick and has atleast 2 exhaust fans, so your chances of thermal-throttling are pretty low compared to skinny Razer laptops.

      • Do you recommend any great laptops for uni and work? If so could you link me some my budget is $1700 max just needs a good screen/long battery life/fast and no issues such overheating/flickering screens etc

        • If you're gonna be carrying it everywhere and won't really be playing games, probably get a lighter and thinner laptop.

          • @Creamy: Do you know any?

            • -1

@aamer hamid: If you want something reliable and light then probably the new M1 mac air. It's gonna be a bit harder to find windows laptops around $1.5k with good build, battery, performance, screen and weight. If you want a windows one then I recommend to go for a laptop with a Ryzen 4000 or 5000 series processor, they'll be hard to find but shop around and check jb out if they have any.

        • +1

For 1700.00…..I would recommend this my friend -

          https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Lenovo-Legion-5Pi-Intel-Core-i7-…

Use the code PLEVO and you'll get it for around 1700.00.

Edit - this is if you're looking for gaming as well. If you're not, then you could get something without a GPU. Careful with the new macs. I'm a teacher, and some of my students have them and they're all complaining of issues with macs made in the last 2 years.

          • @Ruddaga: How reliable is the laptop you linked me any issues at all? Battery life and screen great? Im considering a lenovo laptop i just dont know which one currently im looking at the x13 amd or the x1 gen 7 and now the one you linked me

        • +1

Something like this for $1360. Light weight (1.28kgs) and fully spec'd.

          https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Lenovo-Thinkpad-ThinkPad-X13-AMD…

          • @mandelbrot: I was looking at the x13 the problem is im hearing of overheating issues is that true what laptops do you guys personally have?

            • @aamer hamid: I personally have a blade bro. But that might be out of your price range. Personally had no issues with my razer but I know people say they sometimes doHave qc issues. The one i linked you has super positive review and I was seriously considering it before biting the bullet on my blade. If you can drop 2k, check out the razer blade at centrecom.

              • @Ruddaga: I need something lightweight

                • @aamer hamid: Light weight can mean different things for different people. Do u mean ultra book light weight? Like xps 13 / razer stealth?

                  • @Ruddaga: Do just lightweight as in it wont hurt my back while carrying including other books etc

                    • @aamer hamid: Gaming or just for work?

                      • @Ruddaga: Mostly work and uni and will need to use some software

                        • +1

@aamer hamid: According to reviews, the M11 Macbook is apparently the way to go with the Xps 13 coming next. I had an Xps 15/17 last year and while they are nicely built and sexy as, had so many issues had to return both…. Also probably out of your price range.

Given your price range, the lenovo or one of their thinkpads is probably the best bet since it's during a sale. Lenovo units are pretty reliable + light.

                          • @Ruddaga: Unless you can't stand the Apple eco systrm

      • Not always the case. Alienware M3 and M2s are pretty thick too and they too suffer thermal throttling… Some laptops are just designed poorly.

        • I had the M3 and can attest to this. That mofo ran HOT. Burned me a couple of times. They need to invent better small cooling for these kinds of laptops.

  • +1

Any issues with battery, over heating problems random screen issues im looking for a good reliable laptop for uni and work

    • -3

      Try a Dell xps

      • Nah i heard they have many issues plus the xps i was looking at doesnt have a sale anymore? I need a laptop without issues

    • +1

If you're not going to be using it for gaming/editing/ things that need the performance, this laptop is completely overkill.
If you're just using it for uni and work I'd save your money and get something else.

      • The problem is i don't know what to get lol that's why im asking for help

        • +1

          https://www.metabox.com.au/store/Flo-Range/Buy

These look sick. Ive had a metabox before and i loved it. the screen was fantastic for uni because it was bright enough for outdoor use.

          • @belongsinforums: The specs for that look great for uni work. I was having a look at it before, but this thread scared me a bit, I wonder if it's normal for the metabox?

            https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/9qq87259

It seems hard to believe that a 950gram laptop with a huge battery has anywhere near decent cooling for the processor.

            • +1

@djbros2: Sounds like joycon drift. Possibly normal for it to get very hot. I'd do more research and try find a unit without many reported heat problems.

    • +3

Macbook M1 is probably the best uni/work laptop option unless you need windows.

      • +3

the logo is pretty and all but wifey stole my el cheapo xiaomi laptop because she cant do her uni work with her macbook

    • Avoid if you need battery life so far my tests it estimates a max of 2 1/2 hours

  • +7

wow insanely good price for specs you generally get crappy low-mid tier GPUs in this price bracket.

  • +2

    NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 3060 Laptop GPU GDDR6 6GB

  • Got this laptop overall great display, bad battery life due to the small battery but removal basically the same thing as a metabox as it’s a clevo.

    • Can you check the maximum graphics power of the 3060, should be somewhere in this system information panel https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2040/~/i…

      • +3

It’s not showing in the latest driver, according to Hwinfo it showing around 105W maximum with BFV. Looking at the graph it’s show it’s usage around majority of the time 80W to 93W with highest of 104W

  • Only seeing $50 off. So have to use Afterpay to get the full discount?

  • +2

Had this laptop with the exact spec. Reminds me of my good old Metabox P series back in 2012. The fan can be very loud when gaming and the palm rest can warm up easily, which is expected. Better use it with external keyboard if you’re able too. Good price for what you’re getting.

Only thing i hate is the big GIGABYTE sign right under the screen. It takes up like 20% of the lid space.

  • Finally good deal for a laptop with a 3000 series.

  • Nvidia made it so much harder now without proper branding per wattage levels. This GPU is on par with the RTX2070 super MaxQ?

  • How does this i5 compared the i7 10th gen?

  • I was ready to pull the trigger but Afterpay didn't approve my order..

  • -6

This laptop is good as a gaming laptop with i5 6 core 12 threads

However, from the day apple release M1 processor
probably in 5 years time Intel x64 will be all replaced by ARM architecture processors
5nm vs 14nm is showing how Intel is so much behind the game

This is the benchmark comparison between M1 vs i5 10500
    https://www.cpu-monkey.com/en/compare_cpu-apple_m1-1804-vs-i…

  • +3

This one looks good too, combine with 5% off from jbhifi . https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/asus-tuf-dash-f15-15-6-fu…

    • Hey mate where did you get the 5% giftcards

      • Jbhifi currently has 5% off storewide.

        • How

          • @enwar: Check the ozB post from yesterday.

            • +1

              @mrtee: Its targeted mannn

              • @enwar: Damn. Have you tried signing up to eBay plus for ($49p.a) and you get $50 gift card + 5% off?

              • @enwar: Nvm. I realised this is not eBay.

                • @mrtee: No problem man. Those jb codes are hard to find lol there is like 10 people asking for them

                  • @enwar: Perhaps post and ask to be sent to you as a pm.

                    • @mrtee: I'll try but dont think ill get one lol

                      • @enwar: There's now a generic 5% off JB code posted.

    • Nice, it’s 11th gen 10nm intel too and 3070. Don’t like the keyboard though
Strange the cpu is only 4 core

    • +2

Check reviews of it. It's no way near a 3070 laptop should be. That laptop is handicapped by very low power limits on the GPU and probably the 35W 4 core cpu

  • Hey, i paid through Afterpay, they charged my account and suddenly they say now my transaction was refused and they'll give me back my money. I have just normal debit card from commonwealth, is this a reason? The only way is to buy with credit card or i the problem is somewhere else?

  • Just check on the comparison between i5 10500H vs i7 9750H
9750H has slightly faster single core
but 10500H has slight faster multi core benchmarks

Other than that, most specs are identical
    same 45W power consumption
    same 14nm processors
    same Intel U630 GPU

Benchmark scores are also basically head-to-head

good deal for ethereum mining in starbucks for free electricity?

  • I guess if I'm not aussie and I just wanna pay for this laptop without some Afterpay finance plan it's impossible. I tried few times to be accepted, but afterpay doesn't want to make a deal with me even if i have good credit score and money to buy it. Disappointing and just stupid

    • +2

You can use the non-afterpay code and still get 10% off (12% with after pay)

      • Can you explain me how?
When i use PAPY10 code it says i can use it only with AfterPay, when I try second code it says i need ebayplus which costs 50$. There are any other possible codes to use?
        Cheers

  • +1

I believe Afterpay’s limit starts off at 1k and geta increased as you spend with them more. So only regular Afterpay users can really obtain this.

    • My afterpay limit increased to $3000 over the last couple of months

  • +2

I had bad experience with gigabyte. Will never buy this brand again as this company is not honest about their promotion.

    • The SSD promotion?

    • The machine is a rebadged clevo/sager machine

  • Great price, almost impulse buy even though I've already got a gaming pc.

  • 3060 mobile == 2060 Super (Desktop) in performance.

    • +1

It s not that simple. I found it really hard to understand how my laptop's decide to throttle either CPU and/or GPU just because you reach the power limit. Especially because you have the GPU power and the laptop Power limit and they are not advertised and can t be changed. But basically you don t want to play competitive games as you can bet it s going to throttle when you don t want to.

      • +1

No it's not that simple as it's dependent on the OEM, cooling, CPU so on, however gpu wise James is about correct, so far reviews are showing that's an ok estimate if you can't find a comprehensive review of the particular laptop.

        • When the gpu throttle you ll only have a third/half of the performance of a 2060. It may only be 10% or 20% of the time depending of cooling/OEM but it will kill any competitive gaming and it will happen even if the OEM use the max power limit allowed by nvidia. But I agree average fps will be around 2060. I just personally find the use of average a bit a lie and I m not sure people realise we are talking about average here. Also if you re a casual gamer it s not a big problem !

          • @cbastien: Definitely… With this gen gaming laptops it's super important to get a review of the exact model you are looking at otherwise it can be pretty rough…

  • +4

Got this machine pre-ordered for $1800

Seems to be basically a clevo laptop that got gigabytes name written on there

Battery life is sub 3 hours so far

Gaming performance is middle of the 3060 road
    90w GPU + 45w CPU

    Fans are loud

Palm rest digs a little in to my hand

    Expandable, 2 X NVMe slots, 2x Dimm slots, 1x 2.5"

    Virtually no bloat

For this price it's pretty good, if you don't need a portable machine that's quite

  • Can't resist a good deal combo with Afterpay! Hopefully it arrives fast.
