Seattle Arts and Lectures - Bill Gates In Conversation interviewed by Anderson Cooper

Seems to be a generic code so anyone can use it. The more awareness the more chance we have of solving what's in front of us.

It's an insightful hour of discussion regarding the climate crisis, where we're at and how we can make a difference.

This event is part of the book tour for Bill Gates new book — How to avoid a climate disaster.

Edit:

For the people wondering, this was originally a live feed that was behind a paywall hence the code to view the video.

The video has since been edited (cut off the intro that was used when people were waiting for the live feed) and now is being hosted as an unlisted video on YT. Congrats to the internet sleuths for picking up on that one to make it seem like this post was something that it isn't.

The above doesn't change the original deal at all however there were a lot of people asking how the video was an actual deal. Original tickets were $5 (student price) which is what I paid, so that's essentially what you're getting.

Enjoy, or don't, that's up to you.

So you watched the video then…

Says the microchip on his head ;)

      • It was foretold in the book of Revelations, just ask any conservative….

I enjoy the fact how every persuasion thinks they are the be all and end all

    • +19

You mean how he goes on about climate change whilst flying his fuel guzzling private jets to said talks?

      https://www.aerotime.aero/aviation-blog/wp-content/uploads/2…

      • -7

Imagine thinking one of the worlds richest people would fly commercial lol

Based on security alone this would never happen. Then considering the cost of his time etc

        • -3

yeah you keep licking his boots.

          • +2

@Viospeed: Dude they are the boot of the machine in that they are trying to quell 'wrongthink' against the machine, not licking it.

        • +5

You don't preach what you can't practice yourself

      • Dumb take.

        • +1

          That's not an argument.

          • @Ghos7: Just like your post, it's a comment.

            • +1

@[Deactivated]: It's an assertion that you didn't back up. My assertion is objectively true. Big difference. Maybe try some reason and logic training before you embarrass yourself further.

              • @Ghos7: Ah yes, the intellectual OzB debater has turned up.

      • +6

"in 2020 he started using sustainable jet fuel and "will fully offset my family's aviation emissions in 2021."
        It helps if you read.

        • +2

Oh, so that's why he didn't give away all the money like he said he would, but made billions more instead.

He obviously needs the many extra billions of dollars to pay poor nations to fudge their books to offset his own high flying lifestyle while he DEMANDS all of us stop using fossil fuels, while he uses more than a small city himself.

People have caught onto what 'sustainable fuels' are. They are the same as the pacific ocean plastic patch being the waste we paid China/India to recycle but they just dumped it in the ocean instead. Because why wouldn't China and India continue to dump their waste but lie about it in the world forums?

Truth is, Bill knows this. He just doesn't bank on us knowing it.

          • @studentl0an: Sources?

          • +8

@studentl0an: The Western World always knew less technologically developed nations weren't going to somehow efficiently recycle our waste for us in an environmentally responsible fashion. If we couldn't do it, how could they? It was always going in the ocean. We had other options, like sending it to Europe where they have efficient, ecologically sustainable plastic burning electrical generators. Too expensive though.
Also, he said he intends to give away his money over the course of his life. So far he has donated over 36 billion dollars to various endeavours, which makes him the second most charitable person in the world.
It seems like you're looking for someone to go after. May I suggest the fossil fuel industry, or Nestle. There are plenty of actually evil people in the world. I think Bill Gates might actually rid the world of malaria before he's done. How good would that be?

            • -2

@sklzthtklz: They could have easily done it for the price we paid them to do it for. They actually recycle massive ocean liners for dollars a day. It's just when it comes to plastic waste they just made a lot more money dumping it straight into the ocean and lying about it.

The link I provided disproved the statement? What? He said in 2018 he would give away his 90 billion but is worth more today! Since 2018 he has personally purchased massive amounts of real estate across the world and makes money off it!

He also lobbies poor african nations to use expensive GMO crops that they have to pay Monsanto a lot of money for, maybe you could look into Monsanto's record on Human Rights and the pressures on African farmers to sell out to multinational corporations because they can't afford the seeds now.

I'm sorry to burst your Bill Gates fanclub bubble, but man he really isn't a good dude no matter how much he pays for positive PR.

      • What if he couldn't make the talks due to tight scheduling/security issues without a jet and then his influence wouldn't be able to reach those people otherwise?

I have no problem with him taking a jet that produces X amount of emissions if the outcome of the trip results in a significantly greater reduction in the future that otherwise wouldn't have happened.

        • +5

You mean, like using a webcam to speak at these events like people have been doing for a decade now?

He wanted to be there. He wants to rub shoulders with all the other elites and laugh at people like us.

          • -1

@studentl0an: I think people are just laughing at you.

          • +4

@studentl0an: Give up. These people your trying to convince think the New York Times is a reliable source of unbiased information.

      • -1

Can you buy a carbon neutral electric or other energy propelled private jet anywhere?

Unfortunately we don’t live in a world just yet where people arguing for humanity to do more to mitigate climate change can do so entirely carbon neutrally to avoid being labeled a hypocrite. At least they’re doing something.

This isn’t a counter argument at all by the way. It’s the type of crap my elderly parents come up with when throwing out spurious incoherent arguments about why we shouldn’t do something about climate change.

What is this? a free lecture that's already free via Youtube? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USxCwnOsNk0 OP is missing anything useful.

    • +5

Looks like some people like OP don't understand how to search the net .

      • +3

Oh, I know how to search and I even know what this is but that doesn't excuse OP for posting a deal lacking any useful information at all.

Notice how there's no deal saying "Kmart products are cheap" rather there are deals for items at Kmart with descriptive titles.

Infact has this video ever been available at a cost before? Otherwise here's another deal Mini Japanese Consoles

    • But.. . But…. But google is dog evil

    • +2

Doesn't seem like a deal to me just someone trying to spread awareness.

Bill Gates admits he has a gigantic carbon footprint with all his private plane travel, he justifies it by buying carbon credits.

He buys his first electric car, he buys a Porsche instead of a Tesla. Spends twice the amount for a performance model rather than more sensible conventional sedan.

All Bill Gates is doing is buying a Nobel Prize.

    • He doesn't care about Nobel prize and he always have soft spot for porche.

      • +7

Yes and we all know how Porsche owning is environmentally friendly. /s

The point is Gates went for the performance brand rather than the environmental brand.

I know about Gates long history with Porsches and conspicuous consumption but now he is a health and environmental advocate, he needs to change.

        • +7

It's not hypocrisy to them. They truly believe that they are not our equals and should be exempt from the rules they espouse.

          • -1

@locknuts: What are you rambling on about. Who is ‘they’? Bill gates is a private citizen of another country, what ‘rules’ does he make that you are forced to follow? Could you please list these ‘rules’?

Sounds to me like your worldview comes from YouTube videos and facts you picked up from the reading the back of cereal packaging.

            • +4

@ufoninja: 2 sentences is hardly rambling. Calm down and read my comment again. I said he espouses rules, not that he makes them. People like Bill Gates think they know what is best for us peasants but that doesn't mean they have to lead by example. They're far too important for that.

    • Sounds like he has good taste, I'd much rather have the Porsche

    • +7

Spends twice the amount for a performance model rather than more sensible conventional sedan.

so, if he bought a conventional sedan electric car, you would praise him
but he has money so buys a performance electric car and thats a negative?

Honestly, some people just need any excuse to complain or cherry pick points to slant their opinions in the direction they want

      • +6

Bill is a big believer in do as I say not as I do.

        • +12

He has donated the largest amount of money ever to humanitarian causes.

          • +7

@flashi007: You mean he has done what all these other billionaires have done. Created a "charitable foundation" that they fully control from top to bottom, transferred a large chunk of his wealth to, so as to avoid paying taxes. Then proceeds to use said tax free foundation to buy political influence.

Hate to break it to you, these people haven't given away anything.

          • +1

@flashi007: This appears to be a widely known fact. Perhaps that’s what he was going for

          • +1

@flashi007: actually all that means is how shit the other billionaires are.

some very poor people give all their money away to help others, which makes them discernibly better human beings…

        • +2

if he went and lived in a cave his carbon footprint would be minimal, but less likely to actually make a global change by raising the issues worldwide with the his ability to reach multiple people due to his money and recognition, which is his goal

          But sure, he's a hypocrite

Remind me again what you've done again to try and make mass change in the world? (though I will say your Dell and Peanut butter posts have had benefit to many)

          • @SBOB: if he died few would care - he was and still is unpleasant.

            • @petry: You don't get into his position by not being unpleasant - however him and his wife have still contributed a load of cash to charity

              • @flashi007: so money buys forgiveness? he'll need to spend it all then i reckon to come close…

                • @petry: no money doesn't buy forgiveness - but it can buy vaccines, clean water and assist in agricultural development

                  • @flashi007: and your point is ? Getting rich by assisting in the killing and deprivation of millions is offset by helping far fewer?

those who believe in money rarely can count properly….

                    • @petry: Getting rich by assisting in the killing and deprivation of millions

Id love to read about this. Have you a link or two?

      • Still trying to figure out what this even means, lmao.

Maybe he's implying bill needs a financial advisor?

    • +4

The Nobel Prize is a lot of hot BS akin to an Oscar.

  • +14

Bill Gates - CARBON BIGFOOT ready to squash all you co2 emitting plebs.

    • +7

Bill Gates is the only person who can give away all his money while still getting richer.

      • +7

That's because the truth is they haven't given away anything. The foundation is a vehicle for them to avoid paying taxes, buy political influence and deceive the peasants (us plebs with a net worth under 100M) into believing this money will not go into building Bill's family and future generations into a ruling class dynasty.

  • Did he say anything about makes gains in 2021?

  • +6

Think I'd rather watch paint dry.

    • that paint does not want to be associated with gates…

  • +1
    • I have ideas but the "an" has me stumped. Please go on.

      • +3

        It starts with a vowel

        • Here's $50. (That was the going rate, still is AFAIK).

      • +1

I assumed "hero" and had a minor panic attack

  • Soon we will all have the vaccine and Bill will switch the 5G on and the microchips in our blood will make us comply.

Wake up sheeple, the 1948 UN Charter of Human Rights is at stake.

  • +14

Bill Gates loves to lecture everyone else on what they should do, this guy is way to big for his boots

    • +1

      wow

  • +17

Ah yes 2 elites pushing corpo-fascism on us masses while all of our lives are getting worse while their lives are getting better.. strange.

Very strange how Bill Gates said he would give away most of his money years ago, yet has drastically increased his wealth since then including owning more farmland than anyone else in the world.

Also strange how he continues to purchase beachfront properties to the point of being of the largest owners of beachfront properties in the world too. Very philanthropic of him.

    • Yep only good side of him, is he does give small bit back to third world country, even if it’s only a small bit…. still massive compared to the rich

      • +16

If he gives you $5, but takes $1000 from your future, the truth is you lost $995 - not that you gained $5.

He is using a fraction of his money to make people think he's philanthropic when the truth is he's doing what he loves and making billions of dollars from telling us what not to do - all the while doing what he says not to do.

Bill isn't a good guy, he's just effective at spending his money to make the masses think he is. It's very common with corpo-fascism. Mussolini would be proud to see such a melding of industry, media and political activism, and how the masses go along with it.

    • So I guess “he’s called Bill Gates because he owns a lot of gates” is true now then

  • +9

Bill Gates wants to shove a microchip up my ass.

    • +1

      Lube?

    • +3

Microchip's a bit small, would prefer something bigger.

  • We need to colonise Mars real quick, the way we are going, we need a planet B.

    • +5

Gates doing his best to buy up all of Planet A for his own personal gain.

  • -7

gates thinks "climate change" is a thing….lol

he agrees with this fakeness because something in it for him, like billions are not enough

    • +9

I just want it to be known that there are people like myself who understand humans contribute to climate change, yet are very against Bill Gates for other reasons such as lying about philanthropy, massive real estate accumulation across the world, pushing for poor African nations to use expensive GMO crops from Monsanto and most importantly (for me) is that he's actually a bad dude telling us all to act better without acting better himself.

He's the epitome of 'rules for thee but not for me'.

      • "the masses are blind and stupid" A/H
