  • Good price. I am definitely gonna grab one.

  • -3

Sounds great, can anyone think of a reason not to get this one? I haven't heard of the Verbatim brand before.

    • +18

Verbatim is a big international company. I think I still have some Verbatim floppy disks.

    • +6

They also make blank CD / DVDs … much better quality than 90% of the generic garbage cheapo discs most places sell, so I'm sure their SD cards are probably as good!

      • +3

Agree. Verbatim is the choice to use when it come to bank cd/dvd media.

    • The best, returned some faulty DVD/RW to them, about 4 month after purchase. They replaced them without any arguments. Bought lot's of Verbatim since without any problems. Got one of these USB's, fast enough for me, I'm not counting milliseconds of my life :-)

  • -1

Anyone know what class these ones are?
Good price for brand name card, even if only class 4 (under $1 per gig = BARGAIN!!)

(MSY have their Patriot cards 16 gb Class 10 for $15 too til tomorrow, but these sound like a good #2 option if MSY is a no-go)

    • +4

uh..think its a pen drive, with a usb end :)

      • -4

yes but you can use it for storage nonetheless. usb readers can be had for $1

        • the card has more uses than the usb pendrive

since u can use it for more devices..

        • +5

Errr - this IS a USB drive. You know, a "thumb drive" or "usb stick". It doesn't need a USB reader or adapter.

    • lol. I tht, classes were for SD cards.

    • +4

Oops, sorry, should learn to read drrrr :/ I've been doing a lot of work with SD cards lately.

USB / SD … all flash storage, just a different connector :)

  • Anyone know the model?
    dont have the catalog yet..

  • +1

Nice… what are the read/write speeds of this flash drive?

  • Anyone have a pic of the item in catalog ?

  • +1

Just got the catalog. It's the blue store'n'go model. Pic can be found here: http://www.ryman.co.uk/Catalogue/Ryman/large/global/images/m…

  • is it super slow? Anyone know the read and write speeds? :)

  • this is going to be ozbargained in a flash(pun intended!)-anytime you have a brand name with under $1 per gb it's going to sell quickly me thinks…

    • +3

when people see such a good deal (Thumb drive 1GB : (under $1) ) people usually ignore that.

  • Which one is better compared with COTD deal DataStick Sport 64GB for $49.95 ?
    http://www.catchoftheday.com.au/smallfish_info.php?products_…

Both are under $1 per 1GB..

    • make sure you add shipping!

not that many people would purchase such a large USB. also at this price, gifting it to a techie would be nice.

  • Thumb's up to this deal.

  • -1

"Be nice….. this is my first bargain post…"

Why why why do people keep saying this!

You get a nice little icon for your first post.

  • Good price but will give this a miss.

read and write speeds just too slow… think of the frustration looking at the thing filling at a snails pace.

Better to wait or spend just a few more $

  • +2

I bought this USB 2 years ago, it still works well even i had accidently washed it in the washing machine…Nice pricebtw, i bought it back then for $70

  • +1

I bought a couple of 8gb verbatims from Woolies a few months back. When hubby went to use his for the first time some time later it was as dead as a dodo. By then I'd thrown out the docket. Can't wait until the stores start producing digital dockets.

    • You can always scan the dockets to PDF… and then save them on the USB stick!

    • +2

You can take it back without a receipt. They will give you store credit or replace it.

  • +1

I've got a few of these in 4 & 8gb, not the fastest of drives but they've all been reliable. Good deal!

  • -2

No doubt trying to get rid of these as they have been superseded by much faster USB3.0 thumb drives.

    • Yep. When the new sticks come out, in very near future, this bargain wouldn't be seen as so great a deal after all. Still, someone's gotta empty the stock, why not flog it off to ozbargainers?

  • +4

This is what I got from http://usbflashspeed.com
Pretty good to me for that price..

    • Here's my test results. Quite happy with the speeds for both read and write. Wish I had got more now.

      Test finished without errors.
You can now delete the test files *.h2w or verify them again.
      Writing speed: 11.9 MByte/s
      Reading speed: 21.4 MByte/s
      H2testw v1.4

      • What model is yours on the back of the packaging? Mine says #44094 and is only writing at about 4.8mb/s and reading at about 14mb/s with Teracopy/h2testw.

  • good deal

  • would this be good to use to record tv on a hd tv with pvr function?

    • I'd certainly think so, anything with a write > 3MB/s should do perfect for PVR work.

      • bought it, took it out of the packaging, and tried it on my pvr ready lg 3d led tv and it didnt work. 'connected usb does not support pvr' is the error message that comes up. disappointed, wasted $13, only wanted it to activate pvr function on my tv

        • +1

Check the format, a lot of PVRs don't like NTFS.

Just like Raymond, everybody loves FAT32 though! ;)

  • I can't see the catalogue on the K-Mart site that you've linked to

  • Toombul store had a lot remaining when I left about an hour ago.

  • Thanks op just grabbed 1 from kmart corio village

Actual write speed for me for 5GB transfer 8-14MBs 8 minutes with teracopy

  • Got one today. Thanks for the tip off.
Be it whether its fast enough or not, it's well worth the money.

Tried it on my Kogan TV's PVR. Works just fine.

    Check PVR File System SUCCESS
    USB Disk Pass
    Format Pass
    Time Shift Size All
    Speed HD Support 2986 KB/s
    Free Record Limit 1 Hr.

  • Kmart in Castle Towers was sold out- they said they had a few yesterday (1st January) but was sold out by today when I got there.

Warning- they recommended I get a OfficeOne brand USB drive for $20 which is 16gb as well, but it's incredibly slow. I'm not sure why but I'm currently copying files off my local hard drive and averaging about 400kb/sec according to Windows 7 in "real world testing". This is the first write to the driver after I formatted it using default FAT. In hindsight, I should've not bought it and just gotten one of the random Harvey Norman 16gb drives for $18 but hopefully this will do the trick on the A380 for watching movies!

EDIT: After closing everything, I am now able to get 9MB/second. A lot more reasonable.

  • Bought 6 from Kmart at Victoria Gardens. They had quite a few. I think more than 10 left.

  • +1

got one for myself from Kmart Hornsby, NSW. There were more then 20 still on the shelf.

  • +1

got one at kmart mt gravatt.. plenty left.. :)

  • +1

I picked up one yesterday, the only stock was in the back.
I have two Problems with it.
    1) There's no flashing blue light and 2) the sliding mechanism doesn't strongly click back when retracted.
The bottom and top of mine wasn't properly clicked together, I had to press it together.
My 4GB version from a few years ago has the blue light and strongly clicks closed. It's reliable and fast.
    Does anyone else have this?

    • I can see nothing that suggests it's supposed to have a flashing blue light either way, mine doesn't either. If your sliding mechanism is faulty, it might be worth getting them to find a replacement for it.

      • Mine all have irritating bright flashing blue lights, I'd prefer that they didn't work or were a lot duller…what a great time for Verbatim to get a special on high intensity LEDs! :s

  • Great deal. Thanks for posting. I got me 2! :-D
…now there's plenty of tunes on the USB car stereo while driving.

  • No blue lights on the drives I bought at Dandenong or Keysborough. Keysborough was out of stock last time I checked (I didn't ask, just looked at the empty rack). Dandenong still has stock.

They work fine on my HD STB and it passes the speed test on my XBOX 360 (unlike my Verisign 4GB but that works anyway).
