After yesterday afternoons debarcle for peak hour should be for everyone… Pity anyone returning to the city for work yesterday.

  • +2

They will never offer free public transport in nsw.

    • -5

Riding or walking on government prepared tracks is effectively free public transport.

      • +2

You are transporting yourself, government or otherwise, a track or road is not a form of transport.

      • +6

Sydney is the most tolled city in the world, please explain "free"

        • +10

and that doesn't even make the top 10 of reasons it's a shithole

Isn't it good to spend millions so as to give to mates! Who cares about the lack of patronage that comes with free transport or the crippling injuries from aggressive security guards on trains.

  • Is this all day and night as well? E.g not just 8am-4pm

Free Public Transport Throughout Victoria for All Seniors & Carers (March 21-28)

I don't think we should be encouraging our elderly to all get on public transport until we have a lot more people vaccinated…

    It is irresponsible…

    • You’re bringing out the Pete Evans fans by posting this comment! Name and shame…

      • +1

‘Pete Evans should stick to talking about “activated almonds” and leave vaccinations alone.’

        • RACGP President, Dr. Harry Nespolon

The guy is a loony. He actually said that people with osteoporosis shouldn't have dairy!

    • +6

I was actually thinking the same. Carers and the elderly would be at higher risk and they are being encouraged to travel and after we just got out of lockdown too.

      • +6

Carers and the elderly would be at higher risk and they are being encouraged to travel and after we just got out of lockdown too.

        Exactly…

Just need one quarantine worker with the virus catching the same train, then pow!!!!!!!!!! another lockdown….

    • Surely with the astounding volume of vaccinations being rolled out by our Federal government, all of the Seniors and Carers will have had their vaccinations by then, thus providing them with some protection.

      • -6

Surely with the astounding volume of vaccinations being rolled out by our Federal government

How about the outstanding rate in Vic???

NSW has used about 80% of their allocation.
        TAS has 100%
VIC is around 40%… Dan asleep at the wheel again.

        • +5

Isn't the roll-out contracted out (by the Feds) to a private company (owned by friends of the LNP)?

          • @GG57:

Isn't the roll-out contracted out (by the Feds)

            They've received their allocation.

States are running their own processes to roll out to patients… Vic is behind the eight ball with this…

As part of the rollout, the Victorian Government will deliver doses of COVID-19 vaccines to hotel quarantine and health hotel workers, airport and port workers, high-risk frontline health staff and public sector residential aged care staff and residents, beginning 22 February.

              @jv: Correct:
"Victorian Government will deliver doses of COVID-19 vaccines to hotel quarantine and health hotel workers, airport and port workers, high-risk frontline health staff and public sector residential aged care staff and residents, beginning 22 February.
The Australian Government is responsible for providing the vaccine to residents and workers in private sector aged care and disability care.
The Australian Government is also responsible for purchasing the vaccine, ensuring it is safe, distribution and deciding on the priority populations."

@GG57: Yep, that is exactly what I quoted.

The VIC gov is responsible for delivering to people.

Federal gov is responsible for paying and deciding who gets it when…

                • +5

@jv: Not to all people, as outlined in my more expansive quote.

              • @GG57: We're still in the first phase which is under Dan's purview…

                • +1

@[Deactivated]: So the roll out to residents and workers in private sector aged care and disability care hasn't started yet?

    • Eh, they had a good innings.

  • NSW has never gotten incentives like VIC does…

  • +1

They usually get a pass once a year but this is awesome, thanks TA

    • +1

Annually - metro seniors receive 2 free return vouchers, regional seniors receive 4 free return vouchers… plus the 2 vouchers if you're on a pension.

      • +1

Actually, you can only receive either the
X2 Senior vouchers or x2 pension vouchers
        Never again both….

Plus you must now register your details on ptv website. No registration, nil free travel vouchers delivered in the letter box.

        • No. I'm a senior's card holder in regional Victoria and I receive 4 return vouchers every year.
My friends with senior cards in Melbourne get 2 a year.
My daughter receives 4 return vouchers with her Centrelink concession card.

  • +2

Do they want pensioners to get COVID? 🤔

    • +1

they are more likely to die of boredom at home

  • is wearing a mask mandatory on public transport in VIC?

    • At the moment yes

  • This should perm and also for all health care workers

    • Why?
Why limit it just to those groups?

    • Also include hotel quarantine workers for free PT travel so we can fast track a fourth lockdown

  • +1

Yeah go out. Catch some public transport. Get sick. Spread the love.

  • +2

Already free travel for 9/10 people far as I can tell from all my bus trips.

Either way it's a nice gesture but such folks should travel free anyway I'd think.

But at this point make it free for everyone and stop forcing me to pay for the other 9 deadbeats please. :p service gets worse yet more expensive every year.

  • In VIC buses are free anyway as only about 10% of passengers touch their Mykii card. I feel sorry for seniors who pay the fare in most cases.

  • WHAT'S THE OCCASION?

    • +2

Victorian seniors get free travel for Seniors Week. Last year's event was cancelled because of Covid, so it's been rescheduled to this month.
