can i activate using this without recharge?

    • You have to recharge during activation as the rule was set by Optus. :)

      • so the minimum recharge is $10? Thanks.

        • Yep, that is correct.

    • You don’t have to. There’s a trick to do that, already posted by someone here. Do a search but not sure if it’s still working atm.

Possibly, give this a go and report back:)

      • Looks good, i’ll try that out when I receive the SIM :)
        Thanks!

  • Last time i was the airport, they had stacks of these, vodafone and 2 other providers available to take for free.

These do come in handy, got one, thanks OP

    • What for?
Apart from paying $10 min to sign up to Optus. Cheaper phone & data options in Deals.

      • Port-in and out immediately w/o any fee. Not sure if it’s still working atm.

        • Thats what it used to be used for - long ago. Some report could be done by requesting it or tricking payment system.

So now a SIM of little use. Unless someone can suggest a use.

          • @INFIDEL: That’s it, for people who wanna keep a SIM receiving SMS or to port in & out. Can’t complain with a freebie.

      • I used one a few weeks ago to create a new uber account (old one was disabled for some reason) during the eat for love promotion. Tried virtual numbers before getting a prepaid sim but they eventually got banned after a few hours

I have taken up many free Amaysim SIM offers. Stays active for incoming calls & SMS a year after the credit runs out.

          • @INFIDEL: Oh i’ll definitely check that out, thanks!

            • +1

@Narchos: I park old numbers on Amaysim for over a year, then port out & back with another free offer. Picked up a $6 SIM with $11 ($6 + $5 targeted) cashback over a week ago.
Getting paid for a long term SIM is the way to go 👍

          • @INFIDEL: So does that mean for example if your Amaysim credit expires 31 March 2021, the SIM itself will still remain "active" until ~31 March 2022?

            • @illumination: At least then!
All have received calls & SMS 1 year after the paid service period ended. Even on free SIMs.

Sometimes 2 years after paid period it may still work. You receive an email notifying of termination.

I checked my pile of old Amaysim SIM on the weekend.

About 1 in 3 activated much more than 1 year ago still accept calls & SMS.

              SMS bal to 9999
One shows needs to be recharged by 11/5/20 etc. That sim was activated 3 Feb 2019 & still receives calls & SMS!

              • @INFIDEL: fun fact, i have 4 year old $10 amaysim starter packs lying around and even though it said I had to activate it within 365 days, 4 years later and they all still activate fine!!!! thanks for letting us know about amaysim cards no expiring. though i also think telstra sim cards last atleast half a yr without credit?

                • +1

@[Deactivated]: I was referring to already activated SIMs.

That was very lucky for you🎉
So that adds more interesting info 👍

After 10 months inactive but in dual SIM phone to receive calls, Amaysim gave me free 2GB 28d renewal. I had originally ported it in with a free 28d deal.
Turned off auto-payment. Received an offer of another 28d if they can turn it back on. Why not! Will just turn it off again.

The number is about 10 years old, kept in case people want to contact me.

      • comes in very handy for things like this: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/597391

        • *requires time travel & love of JB😉

SIMs that give you more cashback than you pay do the same + a profit!!

  • Any prepaid cheap sim that I ca port out from Kogan? Thanks

  • Placed an order. Thanks OP!
