  • Damn SA only. Mind you it will be packed on these days.

Costco only makes sense if you buy in bulk. Otherwise cheaper prices to be found elsewhere in a lot of cases.

I mean yeah that's kind of the whole point.

Imo their store brands are better than many 'name' brands at other supermarkets, and with a family of 4 we probably make back the membership on one monthly shop.

Cheap roast chicken / petrol are the cherry on top.

Also if you like the stuff they sell. Their bakery stuff is nicer then any other supermaket’s imo.

Sometimes supermarkets and other stores can be cheaper too. So Costco isn't that great but they do have some good deals here and there. This deal probably suits people looking to buy a TV or electronic equipment if it's on sale then. As they often have better prices than JB, GG,etc.

    • They sell household stuff cheaper as well. We got a 10 function Instantpot that was $120. Noble One 375 ml bottles are $25. They also have clothes, shoes, books, car stuff, etc. You can sign up and then cancel, at any time, for a full refund. If you decide some thing isn’t for you then you can take it back for a refund. We, certainly, get our $60 membership fee worth, every year, and there is only two of us. We tend to steer clear of the oversized jars.

  • after the pandemic that costco got so busy it would take 10 mins to get in the building and then 20 mins at the register

    • I member when there was a line round the block to get in, then a massive line for toilet paper stock, then another huge que for the checkout hah

    • +1

Have you see the costco during the pandemic, the early days of TP hoarding had lines out the door and around the building, and checkout lines extending to the rear of the store. Can't be any worse now.

      • +1

It's been a year since the start of TP pandemic kraze… man time flies~

More expensive compared to members' cost per day. And with all the people who will go there those two days, not sure if it's worth all the headache. Aldi FTW for me.

Its supposed to be a donation, otherwise an Ozbargainer would just sign up and get a refund before the renewal comes up.

      • I supposed you get a year "ban" for cancelling & refund?

        • +1

Use your partner, kids, relatives name. Rotate every year to get around the one year ban

          • @t25: Don't they check your residential address..? Also kids?

            • @cloudie9: No idea to be honest. But I am sure some people value their $60 more so it could be worth a shot.

      • How does one hypothetically get a refund on their membership? :P

        • +1

Just ask at the customer service desk. They have a massive sign saying you can get a refund at any time if you don't like it

  • +3

It's shit at the best of times to shop there, can't imagine how bad it will be on such a day.

A few checkouts dedicated to a few items or less would be great….

    • Yes, this! A checkout or two for 8 items or less or something would be great.

      • +4

Yeah, but they don't want to encourage you to buy only a couple of items. Costco wants you to fill the trolley.

      • They aren’t really interested in that. One day the people in front of us put $1,000 with through the till. They are the people Costco want to encourage. If you go during the week the queues aren’t so bad,

    • I found at 6pm-8pm Monday, tues and Wednesday, it’s ultra quiet.
Often only 1-2 peoples in front of you at checkout. Similar to waiting at Aldi.

Any bargains on these dates ?

  • +1

If you've been working from home and just Zoom meetings, being a crowded store with REAL people might be a refeshing and a flash back to pre-covid era …… most of my meeting finish at at 6 pm so by the time I get to the supermarket its usually quiet ….

    • +2

It’s refreshing until you get COVID from being in a crowded store.

Thanks @holdenmg looks like I'll be going to Costco sometime in the next 2 weeks. I've missed shopping there but not enough to pay for a years membership lol :) & it's a great way to support the WCH :)
