  • Oh crap!my citi online banking got blocked after setting up a few PayAll for the first time 🤪 expecting a phone call soon.. what do i do??😅

  • Made the mistake of making a payment on 30/12 (was planned for 04/01 but Citi decided to take it out on 30/12), went through destined for an ANZ Saver account, but still havent received it. Asked chat to confirm BSB and Account, they say its XXXXX from their end too. Sigh, going to ask ANZ whats up.

    • +1

They always take the payment 3 business days ahead of the scheduled date to ensure it’s received by that date. Just wait until the 4/1 to see if lands in your account.

      • and the funny is on the debit date, i got FIRST sms saying fund has been debited. THEN after that: sms say your account will be debited.
        lol

      • Phew, checked again and got it, cheers.

  • just checking to see if there is a workaround for this situation.

I've a Citi Premier Card with 6k limit and 35kPayall setup (setup back in 2021) for next couple of years on this card.

I also got the prestige with 20K limit recently, but when trying to setup a new Citi Payall on the prestige I keep getting the error max limit reached. I understand Citi probably takes into limit of all open Citi cards and hence not letting me setup more payments. Is there a way to make this work?

    • What amount are you trying with prestige? Does 14k work?

      • Nope. Tried 5k, 9 etc didn’t work.

Did anyone try to do PayAll to a mortgage offset account with bsb and account number? (eg Westpac mortgage offset account).
In theory you can transfer 20k to the mortgage offset account and use it for the interest free period and then transfer 20k back to Citibank credit card. This way you have a free extra 20k at your offset account to offset the mortgage interest.
    Would this work?

    • Exactly my friend

      • Thanks for confirming. To maximise the points earning. Should I transfer at beginning of the month and then repay the card at end of month for max amount (eg 20k). I know there is 55 days of interest free period. But the max amount of points we can get per calendar month is 20k. Does this sound correct?

        • It can get tricky, the majority of us are just transferring to earn points and maybe a bit of interest. A few with god mode have timed it to the day to maximise exactly what you are taking about, but you need to be committed with this approach or could be slapped with fees. My recommendation is set the transfer in 6th of the month (it will transfer a few days beforehand) and pay it back on the 25th to allow a few days for the transfer to go through

          • @leeroys_dad: Would you know if PayAll transactions count towards the initial spending requirement for bonus points? Prestige card requires $7500 first 60 days to get 300k points.

          • +2

@leeroys_dad: Search my posts in here. You will find one where I have laid out exactly how you should do it in step by step detail. It starts with calling Citibank and getting your statement date moved to the middle of the calendar month so that critical dates such as the statement production and payment dates don't ever straddle different months… for long term setting up you wanna consider worst case times such as February, leap years and extended holiday periods like Christmas/New Year and Easter.

            • @Legoman: Question about repayment, after setting up all the payment on the 21st and 24th, how do you do the repayment?
set up auto payment or manually repay via Bpay? what date would be best to set up the payment if my statement date is on the 16th?

Hi Peeps, just got approved for a citi credit card today! When I will apply for citipayall upon receiving the card will I be able to avail the option of 0 percent offer? Thanks

  • -5

Hi all, just got my Prestige card today.

I see some of you set up Payall payments until 203x, did you question by Citi about your past payment as they went to the same account and same amount of money?

Mine limit is set at $20k, my plan is to set up 1 payment on the 1st and 1 on the 15th of each month of 10k to my wife's account then she will transfer it to my ANZ account which will then transfer back to Citi, is this the right way to do so?

Say I set it until 203x, can I cancel future payments if I want to?

It seems if I have to get the best bang of the buck if I want to keep the card until 203x will be the $149 Citi Rewards card, is that correct?

    Thanks in advance!!

Has anyone tried setting up Citi Payall to transfer to their own account but using a variation of their name in the account name to bypass it detecting you're transferring to yourself? I got it to work twice but now it is saying payment unsuccessful when trying to set up future dated ones. Also tried adding a different account in which also comes up with the same error. Wondering if they've twigged…

    • +1

If they haven't they probably will if you post this here…

      • -2

        It was worth an ask

  • Why do they have a requirement you have to wait 7 days before the transaction goes through?

    • no idea, was 14 days in the beginning though

    • In case you wanted to change your mind?

  • +1

Tip for the newbies: When you've set up all your PayAll payments as you want them to be with no future editing required, take screenshots of them all for your records and store offline somewhere. Citibank have a very nasty habit of updating their phone app with no warning, no advice and most importantly no way of continuing to use the old version once the update has been pushed out. If the update includes an increase to the minimum OS version required to run and your phone either can't, or you don't want to be forced into doing that OS update just to work with Citibank, then you're suddenly cut off from seeing your PayAll payments ever again because Citibank provide no way of accessing the PayAll scheduled payments via any method other than phone app.

    • +1

      I use Excel.

    • Hi Legoman,

Would you recommend the cheapest annual fee card to set up PayAll?

Is it possible to still PayAll $20,000 per month until 2033 like you mentioned before?

      • If I had to set this up now from scratch using the conditions available today, rather than those in the lo-doc golden age of credit card acquisition ten years ago, then yeah, sure, I would definitely only get the cheapest possible Citibank credit card to make it work. If there's a free option card that still allows PayAll on it, then that's the one I'd get for sure.

I believe the limit per month at the moment as the rules are currently written is 20K/month or your on-file credit limit (whichever is the lesser). Good luck getting a brand new credit card with a 20K limit straight off the bat with no customer history these days, but if you can, then all power to you, because that's what you'll need I think as a minimum to take full advantage of the PayAll scheme as it currently sits.

        • What are your thoughts on getting this deal (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/728311) for the bonus points and then switching from this to one of the less annual fee cards?

          • @SamBargain22: Sure yeah, if you can swing the application criteria to get that card, then definitely why wouldn't you? $350 cost is a lot, but as long as you can make the $7,500 spend criteria (which probably won't include PayAll amounts being eligible) to get the bonus 300,000 points, then that covers it for the first year at least. 300K points is worth about $1,200 in rough terms, so that more than covers the $350 fee. As long as you're confident you can downgrade before you get hit with the second year annual $700 fee, then this seems like a good plan. At $700 annual fee, the card is not worth it and you will struggle very hard to earn back that $700 in equivalent rewards before you start making headway, but for the first year at least it's a good way in.

            • @Legoman: I only used the card for PayAll and received 300k points so it seems to be eligible.

              • @76F: Right you are.
                Eligible Transaction is defined in the Citi Rewards Program Terms and Conditions and means;
any Citi PayAll Payments (for Domestic Spend only, International Spend is excluded)

Well that makes jumping the $7,500 spend hurdle very easy in that case, so even more reason to take it up

                • @Legoman: I got the Citi Prestige Card and used payall to cover the $7,500 hurdle,
Now have also just got the citi rewards card with 0 annual fee, but credit limit of 6K only, However I managed to schedule 4 transactions per month of 5K each till 2025.
Planning to cancel the Prestige and claim back annual fee waiver!

                  • @Ehty: Yeah that's a good point, if you go back to a fee-free card then they will likely also drop your credit limit, so I guess the trick is to get all your PayAlls setup and locked away while you have the big credit limit, then downgrade to fee free card version and don't edit any PayAlls ever again.

                    • @Legoman: I see that it says PayAll is maximum 20k per month per cardholder. Can you add a supplementary card and will that also have a 20k limit?

  • That's another 37,500 points banked tonight. Thank you very much Citibank!

    • Do you mean 35k? I thought 35 was the max per month

      • -2

Two cards. There'll be another $32.5K tomorrow as well

        • I thought there was a limit of 20,000 (or 35,000 if you scheduled it before the reduction to 20k) across all cards? i.e. the limit is not per card, but across all cards? Explains why I get the error "you have reached the maximum monthly limit allowed for the selected category" on my 2nd Citi card (which I previously held as workplace makes us use Citi).

        • How long after the transfer do the points come?

  • Which Citibank card is the most popular for this points accumulation?

    • +1

The one with the lowest annual fee. ie. Citi Rewards/$149 annual fee

      • Will switching cards lead to losing existing points from previous card.

        • Yes

  • Hi all, pretty late to this but just got off the phone with CSR agent.
Yikes it was a mighty effort to change the statement date to the middle of the month.

I was silly and reduced my limit to 25k before I stumbled upon this thread. May I ask if the 35k maximum still applies? And if so, how does one increase the credit limit?

    • Is your statement date 15th

      • +1

Yes, I will have to re read legomans comments and get out the trusty compass and Ledger to work out the transfers

      • Why the mid month statement preference? My statement date is the 4th, payall's on 7th.

        • 4th is fine but I would have scheduled the PayAll no sooner than the 9th, because 4+2+3 = 9. Take the possible scenario that the 4th one year ends up being Good Friday. Citibank don't work Good Friday, nor Easter Monday public holidays, so it's possible that your statement that year will not be produced on the 4th, nor the 5th (Sat), nor the 6th (Sun) and not even on the 7th (Easter Monday) either, but will be processed on the 8th. Your PayAll therefore that year will appear on that statement having been processed just before cut-off and hence you will not get your full use of the money to generate interest before you have to pay it back again.
Go back to page 8 of this thread and read my reasoning as to why this matters half way down.

    • @Legoman have i cooked it by choosing the 15th instead of the 16th?

      • 15th is fine. In fact any statement production date between 4th and 16th inclusive is fine and will work with the least chance of complications. Start mid-way down page 8 of this thread for my posts that explain this reasoning.

        • @Legoman sorry I kinda not understand the significance of having the statement date to be on the middle of the month? Does the 20k/35k limit restart monthly or as per the statement date?

          • @koflok: Read the reasoning on page 8 of this thread starting from mid way down

          • @koflok: It sounds like he wants to minimise the risk of payments being counted either in the previous month or subsequent month so he wants his statement date as far away as possible from month start/end.

My personal advice is to not overthink it. Overthinking caused me to miss one payment. I lost more in that missed payment than what I would have gained trying to max out the profit. I decided to just pick specific calendar dates for my scheduled payments and I haven't changed it since. All my payments have gone smoothly ever since.

I even have one set up after the 26th of each month, which breaches Legoman's rules.

            • @capslock: Ah yeah okay understood. Sorry just to confirm missed payment as in not paying the minimum balance / 55 days interest free?

Yeah I reckon I'll just setup a safe period between transfer and payments.

This is so dumb but how do I pay the balance in app/website? Or is BPAY the only option? And how long does it take to process to be reflected in our balance usually?

              • @koflok: If I do a Bpay payment to pay my balance on a weekday the funds have cleared at 6am the following day. At around 11am I get the notification from Citi telling me my payment has been received.

    • Monthly limit has been changed to 20k now so I don't think you can setup CitiPayAll for more than 20k per month.

    • +1

Very hard and painful and damaging to credit rating to apply for credit increase these days. You've missed the lo-doc days I'm afraid. Doesn't matter though because you've already got a limit higher than what you can use anyway, so be happy with the 25K you've got. 20K/mo is the max you can PayAll these days and there's no way around that. You've missed the 35K boat.

      • Why does the statement date matter at all? Say 25k limit, 20k max payall. Make a payment a few days before the 20k is to be debited. Is there something I'm missing with statement date?

        • Read the reasoning on page 8 of this thread starting from mid way down

          • @Legoman: can you link to the post? I still don't see the point of moving statement date if limit is reset on calendar month

            • @samehada: Legoman on 08/11/2021 - 14:37

Citibank tend to interpret their own rules to whatever works to their advantage. They're really nice and flexible like that. It's for this reason that it's a really good idea to stay well away from dates that invite even a modicum of ambiguity. I'd stay well away from dates within 3 days of the change of month (so nothing scheduled for any date between 26 and 3 inclusive and I'd also stay well away from 3 days either side of your statement date too. I also keep multiple payments 3 days apart as well just to reduce the chance of arguments with Citibank about when they'll be executed and count toward limit thresholds. This is why before setting up my payments I contacted Citibank and moved my statement date to the 16 of each month (as close to the middle as possible), then created two payments each month on 21 and 24. 21 because the exact statement date is flexible to Citibank's whim and can on occasion be as late as 18. Given that as worst case, then 18+3 = 21 = safe for PayAll to be after statement production to maximise interest free period. Then 21+3 = 24 < 26 = safe for even the worst case of February to not overlap into the change of month.

      • Why do you say a credit card increase is damaging to credit rating these days. Is it any different than it was 6months ago? Only a temporary ding of a few points, right?

        • My credit report has the following section on it and it is one of the criteria they use for assessing the end result:
"What is an enquiry and how long does it remain on my credit report?
When you apply for a credit product, the credit provider may request information from a credit reporting body (such as illion
Data Registries Pty Ltd, "illion"), this creates an enquiry on your credit report.
Enquiries are retained on your credit report for 5 years from the date of application"

    • I didn't call them at all. Did it by online chat only and they were perfectly happy to shift it for me with a simple made-up excuse that pertained to helping me to schedule my repayments better. They were even complimentary and thanked me for taking the time and effort to ensure my repayments would not be missed.

Just cashed out some points for cross-country flights, 3 nights accom in Sydney CBD hotel and a Sunbeam blender for making sundried tomato dip which cannot be bought for any amount of money where I live due the Colesworth/ALDI/Metcash buyers being complete pricks. All paid for 100% with free PayAll points. Now my balance is back down to a smidge over 1mil.

    • Where is the SQ J flights!!

      • I don't have a reason to want to fly RTW - J all the way and have to deal with the nightmare logistics of booking all that. Happy in the knowledge though that I could, easily, twice, if that reason does pop up.

        • Who needs a reason to fly SQ J, dream! I have booked RTW J with QF points and I swear that added 30 years to my life. Surely it can't get worse than Qantas call center (pray). Sad we only have ~900k after getting on it about a year later than the start, compared to you

          • +1

@knobbs: I need a reason. I don't fly for phun. Not even J-class is fun. Just less punishing and potentially life threatening than ecomony. I do realise that for a lot of people just the idea of getting on a plane is the fun part, but that novelty wore off for me about 30 years ago.

    • welcome to Sydney!

  • -1

I'm new at this and have been reading pretty much all of the pages. So am I getting this right.

    • Say I have a limit of 20k. Do I transfer myself 2 batches of 17.5k to take advantage of the 35k limit? Or is this confirmed to be limited to 20k or credit limit you have?
    • And obviously, transfer it back / do payment within the interest-free period which is 55 days
    • Does it reset on a monthly or statement date? I'm also not familiar is there a "fix" statement date or if everyone is different.
    • If I want to double dip and put it on my offset account, do I set 1st batch of payment on the 1st - keep for 2 weeks - do payment to Citi - set 2nd batch on 15th - keep for 2 weeks - do payment to Citi?
    • How long does Citi process the payment?
  • So when the deal is all over, will anyone create their own merchant terminal for full credit card points and using it to pay for rent, bills etc. similar to sniip. Lol

    • No, because the costs of running your own merchant terminal would cancel out and negate the benefits. This is OzBargain where the name of the game is get something for nothing, not spin your wheels endlessly just making money go around in circles.

      • -1

Which is exactly what everyone is doing to this Citibank promo, spending only on rents, bills. Definitely not making money spin endlessly =D

Why do you think they have a cap =p

        • +2

Yes we are doing it while FREE. If you setup your own terminal and pay 2-3% surcharge it is no longer worth the points. IMO

        • Which is exactly what everyone is doing to this Citibank promo, spending only on rents, bills

14 pages and you don't see we are doing to ourselves ?

  • Any reason why I can't setup regular payment up to 60 months? Can only do 24 months

    • +1

      Same as everyone champ

  • How frequently can you apply for a limit increase? I applied for one just a few months ago and want to know how soon I can try and repeat this. Thanks

    • No idea, that information you will never be able to find out. Just like you will never find out the reason for a credit rejection or anything else. They never disclose that information presumably to prevent people gaming the system in the future to maintain some sort of integrity. The banks know that the internet exists and they know that forums like this one exist and they know that people share their experiences and knowledge. They do not want anyone to get an inkling of what happens behind closed doors or how decisions are made or what customers need to do in order to get a positiive outcome for them.

  • I am just joining the payall party now.

So I performed one payment recently and it worked. Now when I try to send money to the same payee, the payee is greyed out. I can still create a new payee and proceed with payment but it won't allow me to reselect existing one.

Also I am not able to perform any scheduled payment as that gets greyed out. I can only perform a single payment at a time.

    Is this expected?

    • +1

Make sure you enter a description.

      • try scrolling down the page, it's a bad UI and hidden fields

        • -1

try scrolling down the page, it's a bad UI and hidden fields

WOW. I've tried that 10 times over the last 2 weeks and never thought to do that. Thanks.

As for my other problem with payee, that seems to have mysteriously fixed itself now.

  • Hey guys I can't seem to schedule payall payments. It keeps saying the limit is reached for that category. How do I get around this? Trying to schedule 15k for the next 24 months.

    • Assuming you have tried using different categories like travel exp, home Reno, insurance etc?
If you have recently cancelled existing payall transaction(s) then wait couple of days before setting up new transactions as it takes a day or 2 for Citipayall system to refresh/reset.

      • Yeah I did try all kind of categories, I was able to schedule 13k but for some reasons I cant schedule the remaining 2k in any of the categories. Really no idea how it works.

        • Same here mate, I could only do 14k out of the 15k limit

          • +1

@leeroys_dad: I believe I read a Legoman comment saying PayAll is limited to 90-95% of credit limit, in case you're close.

            • @rarelyscene: My credit limit is 20k like everyone else. However I can only schedule 14k for payall. Not sure if anyone else is experiencing this.

            • @rarelyscene: You can only Payall a max of 95% of your credit limit (or 20K) as one payment. This is an undocumented limit. If you're limited at 20K, then the maximum you can PayAll in one payment is 19K (95%). To get the full 20K in one month you must do a minimum of two PayAll payments that summed together = 20K. ie. 19K + 1K or 17.5K + 2.5K or 10K + 10K etc. You will not be allowed to do a single Payment of 20K as nice and clean as that would be.

              • @Legoman: I was able to do a clean 20k on my Citi Payall for some reason.

          • @leeroys_dad: Yes its 14k for me as well. Out of 20k credit card limit.
So they cap us at 14k out of 20k with 6k buffer? Not sure why they do that.

    • Same thing I am experiencing. Haven't established a workaround or root cause so far.

      • Can you only schedule 14k out of 20k for payall?
