I just rejected the delivery today. Samsung say that it will take about a week to return to the warehouse, then needs to be manually processed as returned. After the refund has been initiated it will take up to 30 days for the money to return…

        Samsung suck man

    • +1 vote

Their return process is very lengthy once shipped. Exact same thing happened to me and it took 3 weeks for money to return after several calls. I suggest a constant follow up. Good luck !

      • +1 vote

For clarity, I ordered around 10pm Friday night and then emailed that night to cancel. Called up the next day and each day after chasing up a cancellation with their 'sales' team and they still sent it despite confirming on each time it was going to be cancelled.

…I believe you and don't doubt the returns process is going to be a pain :/

  •

Thinking of Picking up the Samsung A21s for $249 at Coles. Its worth $35 + the $500 bonus so $289 off + the $200 voucher and $50 voucher.

Might try CEX and see if they have the A21s for cheaper.

    •

      Gumtree or facebook?

      •

People seem to be flogging them off for the same price they are on sale unfortunately.

The above gets me the Ultra for about $1080. Was hoping for Sub $1k but dont think that will happen but im looking at it as my first Samsung and hoping they will do this deal each series and i will be able to upgrade cheaper in the future.

        •

Agree with Shadow131: there is quite a list of phones to choose from for your trade-in. Someone will be selling an old one on gumtree/FB - I just saw an iphone 6s on gumtree for $70.

          •

@exxonsign: Would be good. I checked for 6S's here in canberra and they are inbetween $200-$300 and either have cracked screens or replacement parts which Samsung wont take.

Might be safer to buy the cheapest phone they will accept (i think the A21s) new and not worry it may have issues being second hand.

            •

@worthy1: Yo - I realised you can trade in reallly old crappy phones from other brands like Oppo. Worth checking out

              •

@shadow131: Thanks. You can for some. I have a heap of HTC, Motorola and my current Oneplus and none are in the list unfortunately.

    •

Samsung A21s for $249 at Coles.

      Make sure not carrier locked.

      •

Good point although i didnt see that as a question in the trade in estimate so assumed it may not be an issue. My guess is they are looking to recycle them and they get some sort of incentive to do it otherwise what else are they going to do with all these old phones.

      •

can i clarify, can the trade in accepted network locked phones or not?

        •

No one seems to know. Will take someone with a locked phone to find out. The estimate section doesnt say and not sure if the App asks that question.

          •

@worthy1: I did a trade-in with a Galaxy S9+ (64gb) today. Although my device was not network locked, the Uptrade app test marked it as locked. It was the only "fail" which came up on the list at the end of the test with a red "X" beside it. This came up after the app asked me for the IMEI.
I completed my purchase with a $130 device credit plus the $500 trade in credit.
Noting that I also stacked a $200 and a $50 on top of that, for a total discount of $1,130.
So my experience was that the "locked" result on the test was not an issue.

            •

@exxonsign: Awesome! thanks for that. Now to work out whether i want the Ultra over the Plus.

            •

@exxonsign: I believe the "locked" result you are referring to is the phone lock, i.e. lock screen or other security settings you have on the phone. The idea is that you would remove this via a factory reset before sending the phone in. Asurion terms state that if they receive the phone with lock settings still on they will contact you to attempt to unlock the device and complete the wipe over the phone. If they fail to complete this over the phone with you then they will charge you the trade in value of the phone because you've sent in an "ineligible" device.

              •

@hoju83: Makes sense - you may well be right, hoju. I didn't take a screen pic of the test results, so I can't say for sure what the exact wording was.

                • +1 vote

@exxonsign: The exact wording was "Device lock is still enabled". I asked this question myself previously :)

    •

Mines coming up as $229 on special at coles.

      •

Yeh saw that, finishes today. Waiting to hear if all these codes are still stackable as of today before i go buy a phone i could be stuck with

Edit- Further down it all still apparently stacks.

I think the A21s is the cheapest new phone you can buy and trade in. Just not sure how much i trust the condition of getting a used phone off a random to do this with. They probably wouldnt admit to any repairs on in and then you could lose the $500 plus the phone you bought.

Edit Edit - Just noticed the $229 one is locked to Optus which someone mentioned might be an issue. Might have to look at the $249 one starting tomorrow or Kmart, BigW etc also have it at $249.

        •

Aren't the ones from big w and kmart locked to optus too? I went on live chat and they said to run the app to find out pretty much.

          • +1 vote

@nmcc08: Your right, sorry i didnt get that far into checking those yet. Might have to wait for Coles deal to roll over to the unlocked one tomorrow for $249. Still have to wait for my $50 voucher anyway.

I think with the app you need things like the IMEI number and things so not sure you can check. Unsure if it would matter as i wouldnt imagine they are reselling these phones, probably recycling them which saves them money in parts or something, dunno. Although considering they arent taking cracked screens or replacement part phones then maybe they are reselling them….

  •

Does any one know if I can trad in my broken s8. Screen is broken in the top right corner. However, phone is working perfectly fine. As long as I get 500 off then I am happy.

    •

broken screen the trade app will say $0 value for S8. Try the app and see if it pass.

As we discussed in the last few pages, nobody can 100% sure what will happen if don't send the phone back or send a Mis-Grading Device. If only a small one in the top corner I would send it back and see if they say "Mis-Grading Device".

      •

somehow when I say physical damage it is saying not eligible for trade in. It is not giving me trade in Id

        •

As I said if the broken corner is very minor and hardly see it you can try say "NO" to physical damage.

So up to you to take the risk.

    •

      is burn in screen okay?

      •

        Nah.

  • +29 votes

Ok, I can confirm that the $500 will be deducted if you don't return the phone.

I bought the phone on the 19th. The $35 phone value was deducted on the 27th, and the $500 was deducted this morning. I'm OK with it since I love the phone, but if this is an issue for you, be aware. Just created this account to let you know.

    • -12 votes

Just created this account to let you know.

Why just created this account to let us know?

      • +8 votes

Because I couldn't post without an account.

        • -8 votes

OK, in that case you have been watching ozbargain but never post?

I am not saying you post fake post, I also agree to return the phone back, just wondering.

          • +10 votes

@superforever: I watched ozbargain for years before creating an account. A few people I know visit ozbargain daily but don't have an account. It's normal.

@K3rb3ro5: lol, it seems like. I got an email just now "Once you receive your new Samsung device, you will have 7 days to return your device at an Australian Post Office or you may be charged a non-return fee of $80."

            • +13 votes

@K3rb3ro5: I'll upload the screenshot when I get home. Some people have work to do.

Can you upload the screenshot, thanks in advance.

@WIND: He is still on his way home.

        •

how far is your home mate ?

    •

Can someone else also confirm this? I had a live chat again after reading this and they said it is only the value of handset from trade up app and you get to keep $500 promotion.

      • +1 vote

Chat reps give conflicting info and should not be believed, they obviously have no idea. We'll just have to wait whether more people get charged.

      •

Did you get a copy of the transcript or take screenshots.

        •

This, if the chat rep is telling you that you keep the $500 promotion then it's part of the deal (or otherwise misrepresenting the deal). As long as there is proof on paper, you should have enough backing to challenge if they end up billing you for it.

          •

@Sir Flabo: There is nothing in the T&Cs that suggests that if you don't return the phone that you will get the $500 deducted.

            •

@frbargain: I've been dealing with samsung directly for a few days now and they're seemingly highly incompetent. I wouldn't be surprised if they did charge you even if they weren't supposed to. Back yourselves up as much as you can would be my advice

              • +3 votes

@Sir Flabo: Also is it even possible for Samsung to charge you without authorization if you paid via PayPal or AfterPay?

I call BS on the guy who says they got charged.

                •

@frbargain: Not a lawyer so I don't know but through samsung's trade in app, your credit card details are provided to them. So I assume they can bill and you could challenge it?

            •

@frbargain: Yes there is. It clearly says that you'll be charged the amount of discount that you received at the checkout when you entered your Trade ID. The discount you received is $500 + the value of your device. Whether, and how, Samsung follow up is another issue, but the T&Cs are clear.

I would assume they will bill you for the $500 and refer you to a debt collector if you don't pay it. But we'll have to wait and see.

      •

Can you post a transcript if possible? Cheers

      •

My chat agent told me to contact Asurion.

        https://imgur.com/hyBqrfu

      •

Do you have a screenshot of the chat?

    • +1 vote

the $500 was deducted this morning

I don't understand how is this possible. First, if suppose your phone breaks afterwards and you let them know, then as per their last screen where you enter CC details, they say "Possible fees and charges $value_of_your_old_phone". If they are to charge the $500 then why it's not mentioned under possible fees and charges?

Second, under Samsung's T&C I couldn't find anything about charging $500, unless if anyone read it then please copy the terms here.

      •

Agreed. Nothing in their T&Cs at all. Only thing specified is a non-return fee and Asurion clearly state that this is the value as determined by the TradeUp app, which in my case was $15.

  •

what if they(samsung) find out the old phone we send back have some defect that may cause phone value can be deducted.
Would they just deducted phone value or $500 together?

    •

I won't worry if not major like broken screen , used phone what did they expected?

      •

for example: charging port does not work properly?(I normally use wireless charging)

        •

Mate theres a list of things they expect of the phone and you need to tick them off OR test them via the app - charging via cord is one of them. You wont get full value for that, but they will offer something.

    •

If the deducted value doesn't make the phone's value to 0, it should be fine. Otherwise I reckon they'll send you your device back, and charge you the $500.

      •

Gonna be hard to be without a phone for potentially weeks unless you have a spare!

Also you only have 2 weeks to return the new phone unopened and untouched basically.

        •

Haha, yeah I realised that people are switching from their old devices. Had to edit my comment so I don't sound stupid.

    •

      Curios at this too.

Could imagine all part of Samsung's plan to increase sales by somehow denying trade in and charging back the bonus and trade in value.

    •

I have asked 2 x live chats and they said Asurion will charge a fee.

Samsung doesnt know how much the fee will be but you wont be able to get the device back if they dont accept it.

  •

now on 30 March, can someone tell does $200 voucher stackable with trade up value?

    •

I completed a purchase about an hour ago and had all the discounts stacked ($200 and $50 vouchers plus the $500 trade-in). Including the trade in value of my current phone ($130) and the $250 discount from RRP, my total discount listed at $1,130. Have received a tax invoice via email from Samsung: see image https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/182081/87956/samsung_d...

  •

What if i had my burner 5$ card details in tradeup app and paid for phone with afterpay.
Where they would go and deduct my phone value $$ and promotion bonus of 500$. 🙄

    •

Are you really going to damage your credit because of this?

      • +1 vote

Burner card was a gift card.
They don't have my card details, how would my credit be damaged

        • +1 vote

I heard they will send you a bill to you shipping/billing address.

Not sure the extend of them chasing you down for the 500bucks

          •

@yontk: Thats would be nightmare. Its better to return 😜.

In some other post a guys said he was charged just the phone value and not bonus.

Also Nowhere in samsung tnc states they will charge you for bonus.

          •

@yontk: Where did you "hear" this ?

            •

@retainer: Saw it one of the post here or one of the other threads. Just an assumption though at this stage.

    • +3 votes

They will put in an unpaid debt in your credit record. It will affect your credit rating. The order is all linked up, so unless you managed to put in a temporary address, a bogus name (Luke Skywalker), a burner credit card for the purchase, are you certain they cannot get your details? Are you sure ID / driver license check will not needed in order to accept the delivery?

All that to double dip phone trade in credit? The trade in credit amount is much lower than real market value.

Even if you decided to pay back to get that wiped clean later on, it will drag on. I tried to contact them to get some assistance on iPhone SE (2016) not working with the app. Zero response. Tried calling them. Got the 'we are busy' automated message and the call was disconnected.

      • +1 vote

I agree with the principle of not abusing the $500 rebate, as it is dishonest. But I don't think that Samsung could make an entry on your credit report if they are not providing you credit through an Australian credit licence. They would lack standing to make an entry of that nature.

      •

They will put in an unpaid debt in your credit record.

What if you used a debit card that you don't use normally? Can they put an unpaid debt via your debit card? I don't think so.

        •

It's not card related (they don't care which card). They put it under your name and address.

So, if you put Luke Skywalker's Polis Massa address in, sure they will put that bad credit report on Luke Skywalker. However, you do want that S21/S21+/S21 Ultra phone, don't you?

    • +1 vote

Same as stealing something from a supermarket. Do the math.

    •

If you paid for the phone using Afterpay, based on what an OZBer reported, the credit he received for the phone trade in was later charged back (since he didn't return it) and he was charged additional $500 later on (aka the non return fee).

So, unless you managed to trick Afterpay, I think you are brave to go down that path.

  •

Hi guys, can anyone confirm if the $200 voucher still stacks. I don't want to pull the trigger on an ultra if they no longer stack, and have to risk sending my s10 in to Asurion even if I don't purchase a s21

    • +1 vote

Still stacks, I just put through an order with $50+$200+$500 discounts

    • +2 votes

You don't have to send your phone if you don't make a purchase. The app generates a code and you use it when you check out. If you don't finalise your purchase even if you enter the trade up code, you don't have to send your phone in.

    • +1 vote

You can test it out. Generating a trade Id doesn't mean you have to send your device. Only when you purchase using the trade id is when you have to return the device.

  •

So this deal : Refurbished Unlocked Boost Apple iPhone 7 32GB $199 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/613861

Does it mean you could get a $200 phone (with the cost of phone offset by the $200 samsung discount voucher) which apparently has the low trade in value of $60 +$500 +$50 voucher = $610 discount
    OR
Is it likely the refurbished nature of the Apple phone means its not going to be accepted?

    •

The app will check IMEI, region and ask you whether it has been opened before to replace parts. So, there is a bit of risk involved.
If you can get the app to generate the code, then it should be fine.

      •

That is the issue i am having with purchasing a second hand phone. You wont know if its been repaired and then you could lose the $500. CES near me has a Oppo R9s for $160 that i i could buy and trade but who knows what could be wrong with it. Toying with just getting the Samsung A21s for $250 new and trading it for peace of mind

    •

      I guess it'll be accepted!

    •

There's also risk into how it was refurbished as one of the conditions is that all parts on the phone must be OEM samsung. If it's seller refurbished then they could use any old part. I personally wouldn't risk it

  •

Did someone in this thread mention a good protective case for the ultra ? I Swear they did but i cant find it?

The amount of times i've dropped my s10 and it didnt break due to my tech21 case is insane.. but theyre a bit pricey

  •

Hey guys, silly question. I managed to get the discount codes applied for the 50 & 200 but can't see where to apply my trade value code, it says at checkout, but I'm at the point where I enter my card details to pay for the phone but can't see where to put the trade code, thank you

    • +1 vote

On the very first page the first question is "Samsung Trade-in". Select "Yes please" and it'll ask for your trade in code.
