Which tyre repair kit is better?

    • I’d say the orange one because it has the glue.

    • There's 20 in the orange one, too. Black one is unspecified. They both look to have all-metal tools, which is nice. The one I got on ebay had a plastic handle, and the metal part was kind of thin, so it actually bent as I put force on it.

      I vote orange.

      • Thanks everyone. Just curious…. why not just use those inflating cans which are normally around $10-20?

        • +3

The one with goop in it? Apparently the tyre shops don't like the goop when you next go in for a professional repair or to change tyres as they have to clean up the goop.

        • +2

The cans are a 1 use and it makes a mess inside the tyre

        • Also no good if you have tyre pressure monitoring I'd imagine, which is becoming more common in modern cars.

    • Black one is better.

      • +2

        How so?

        • The business end is better built.

    • +3

Doesn't matter, I've fixed tyres both with and without glue and they both worked. Also watched a professional fix a tyre before and they didn't use any glue.. The steroids strips are designed to seal

I picked up the orange kit at the local repco for 14.

This battery box at $59 is good value too.

    https://www.repco.com.au/en/globes-batteries-electrical/batt…

    • Damn I just paid $79 for the BCF one

    • Same price as KMart.

    • Just make sure your deep cycle battery can fit inside the box.

Aldi had a large one for $39

    • looks very similar to what Aldi had. May be price maching.

      • +1

I'd say this one looks more like the kmart one. Think that's $49?

dont get a digital deflator, a matchstick jammed in valve does job for zero dollars

    • +1

That's like saying don't get a car, you can walk there for zero dollars.

A deflator removes the valve core to deflate quickly and allows you to check pressure at any time during the process. Also much less likely to damage your valves which will leave you with a leak.

      Oh, you’re that guy…

    • +2

Do you go off road much? It's such a pain in the ass using sticks and takes at least 3 times as long per tyre.

  • I bought 2 set of ARB Speedy Seal S2 Emergency 4WD 4x4 Car Flat Tyre Repair Puncture Kit 2 wks ago for $55 each.

    • From where?

    • And they will work no better than this kit for 14 bucks for a basic tyre repair

      • +1

The ARB is definitely better made.

To muchape, I've got it from Patrolapart with 9.87 dollars delivery fee.

        • It probably would be, but I got one of these off ebay and the handles are infinitely better than the plastic ones you get from sca etc. It's diminishing returns beyond that. The ARB one also includes a pressure gauge (buy doesn't look that flash) and a valve tool, but they aren't expensive items, at least not making up a 30 buck difference IMO. It is what I would call a 'nice' set tho

        • Cheers

  • Does the length of the plugs matter? Orange kit is 100mm, while the black is 200mm

    • +1

Not really but you need to fold them over when using them so the 10cm is really 5cm which might make the job more tricky to align and not pull out when retracting the tool

    • +1

You can always cut them down, they are inserted doubled over as mentioned but the depth only needs to be about 2.5cm so you could be cheap and cut then in half, but in reality unless you are off-roading this is probably a lifetime supply

      • I off-road a lot and run over roofing screws fairly often….

        • Yeah if you work in construction or there's a lot going on in your street it can be annoying

        • I run over roof screws all the time. Now I just remove and replace with a counter sink screw with a bit of silicone under the head. Plugged a couple with a kit like this. 4 out of 5 worked 100%. Screws are 6/6. No balance issues.

          • @tunzafun001: Do you do any off-roading and lower your tyre pressure?

            • @subywagon: Not to the point of lowering the tyre pressure, fair point. If you dropped the pressure, they might leak/ lose their seal.

  • Some stores have stock. I have plugged a few with Big W stock, this one sooms better for big tyres.

  • What batteries does the Deflator need?
Its not going to be much use it it takes random button types.

    • 2 x AAA is pretty standard

  • +1

cheers OP, grabbed the orange as my local had stock.

  • Ordered on Sunday, still no pick up email. How long does it take?

    • My last repco click and collect took a total of 4 minutes to be ready. In the past they once forgot to send out the collection email/text and I had to email them.

      • Thanks, I'll chase tomorrow.

  • They jacked the price up for Easter but hopefully it will.go back down to catelogue price

    • Prices are still the same currently. It’s even advertised on their catalogue.

      • yeah they corrected it now
