    • +11

      Its a maths bargain

      • +5

        • Bmarth

    • A+

      • +2

Plus what?! Don't leave us hanging!

        • Can someone explain to me why the qtr pounders have a stale off-taste? Like always

    • +5

      This is peak Ozbargain.

    • Who?

    • +6

Eating too much of a nonna made pasta can make you fatty too.

    • +4

How do fat people effect your personal every day life so much that you go out of your way to write something like this for no reason?

      • +7

        FuriousGeorge might be HangryGeorge

        • +12

          George is getting upset!

      • +15

        Found the fatty

      • +7

Self conscious people make comments about other people's appearance and way of living.

        • -5

I don’t care if you stuff your face with junk and blow out. What annoys me is fat people making their little kids fat , buggering their lives up too.

      • +1

Yes and no. Generally no. But I'm not a fan of paying health care costs of people that make informed decisions to do the wrong thing. I wouldn't look at obesity that way but to take a more extreme example say a 20 year old who takes up smoking should not expect the public system to pay for lung cancer treatment. Nothing wrong with them smoking if they want to, but you can't have your cake and eat it too

        • +6

One could argue that smokers pay more tax due to the majority of the cost of cigarettes is tax.

          • -1

@th3brad: There has been no good whole of life study concluding if smokers are net revenue positive or negative.

            • +3

@ricee007: Do the maths. A pack a day smoker starting now at 20 yo will pay well over $1M in tobacco taxes. They will cover their own burden on the health care system and take care of a few fatties too.

              • +3

@Pennypacka: Love to see your workings.

                Let's suggest…

                365 packs/yr
                $30tax/pack
To hit $1m they must live to 112, then start using this million.

                Nope.

                • @Ulysses31: Try about $40 tax per pack today. TODAY

There has been a 20% per year increase for the past 4 years and they are considering keeping that going. As inflation and you could be looking at $3M.

          • @th3brad: Totally could be. Yes.

        • +4

Have you ever considered that those people who self-inflict these diseases over long periods of time may have paid the same or more Medicare levy that you have?

Not everyone who is fat or smokes are bludgers who rely on government assistance.

You should stop thinking that tax is 'your money'. It's everyone's.

          • @BradH13: The levy itself is an average based on need. So that argument doesn't work.

      • +3

I'll take a stab - Being that 1/3 of all deaths are coronary disease related, the pressure overweight people but on the health system is phenomenal.

If everyone was in shape and healthy, these billions could be put elsewhere to improve the living standards of us all.

Plus - I pay a heap of tax, maybe this guy does too…

        • +1

Overweight people also pay tax. Sometimes 'heaps'.

I know a fair few obese people on big bucks paying big tax.

          • +1

@BradH13: They also pay less, those on social welfare. All things equal, prob cost everyone more with the population being overweight.

          • @BradH13: Did I say there wasn't such people? No. Changes nothing. Do some research into what this sickness costs Australia every year and come back and see me…

      • -4
        1. Affect, not effect.
        2. Alot. Just to name a few - indirectly, medical/tax - directly, seats on the train/plane.
    • Truth hurts - negs don't

Isn’t better to get a double beef n bacon meal for $4.95?

    • +2

Is that deal actually still available? I thought it got canned (in NSW at least) as I haven't seen it on the app for awhile.

      • +2

Yes, I’m in nsw and it’s still available

      • +3

In the app, go to the burger the select small meal and the price will automatically change to $4.95

      • +1

Double beef & bacon meal in a can.

What will they think of next?!

    • +2

2 small double beef & bacon meals for $9.90 would be worth the extra 35c over 1 medium quarter pounder meal for $9.55.

  • +44

Lol.. order $100 worth of food.. then change your mind..

    BOOM $100 SAVED

    • +1

Then you check the fine print saying no change of mind refunds

      • +6

Just do it all in your mind then, awesome hack!!!

    • +1

Save $11 save your waistline - don't go to mcdicks #LIFEHACK

  • +70

This knowledge will come in handy to impress my date when I take her to maccas

    • Great idea

      • +12

Bargain. Won't need to pay for your date anymore after that meal.

    • +5

You'll save even more again cause that will be the last time you will be taking her anywhere

    • Whilst simultaneously showing restraint.

  • -4

You're better off keeping the meat and ditching the soft drink and fries. And this isn't a deal.

    • +16

Its cheaper than buying a standard (single patty) quarter pounder.

      • +6

My mistake. I read the title and assumed without reading the deal (title doesn't say double quarter pounder). You're right.

      • +2

Ah, so that’s what deal about

        • This sentence is a deal, it has less words than normal.

  • Wait, where can you get a Medium Double quarter pounder meal for $11? Where I live it's like $13.45 for a medium

    • Edit: Oh I misread the initial post
I’m not sure how the meal is so cheap initially

    • $13.20 for me

  • +15

    Peak OzBargain right here

  • Hack or just tightass?

    • -5

      supertight

just pay for your maccas like a normal person

    • +8

Would you rather the money your pocket or a billion dollar companies?

      • +1

good enough reason to not spend any money at McDonalds under any circumstance, yet here we are at 300 upvotes and counting.

        • Yeah id rather go down to the local deli and get a roll or burger

    • +10

we're on ozbargain. this deal saves money. i don't see a problem.

      • +1

We encourage all methods and ways of finding a bargain.

We are like maths tutors of frugality.

  • +52

Lol, I think people aren’t understanding the purpose of this deal

Say you wanted to get a quarter pounder, OP is saying that instead of quarter pounder you order double quarter pounder instead and just remove one patty and you’ll save yourself money. It’s not clear because it’s easy to miss the DOUBLE quarter pounder part

So they aren’t suggesting that you eat a quarter pounder with no meat, but that you buy a double quarter pounder and end up in the same place but save money.

It’s actually quite an interesting hack and would be handy

    • +20

I think a lot of people must have had little sleep last night. I thought it was pretty easy to understand though. Pretty good hack

        • +11

Not even close to epic tightassery. When u get to ordering 4 softserve cones with toppings and then asking for a mc flurry cup to save a few cents that's getting to epic tightassery. This is just a pretty simple menu hack. And you get an extra slice of cheese as well.

        • If you're ordering online why wouldn't you use this method? Like saying using the x% off vouchers in app or using the buy 5 get one free coffee is being a tight ass. This platform is about getting things cheaper and this method achieves that with little effort.

          • @eggaz: Why - I suggest you consider this OzBargain cost - benefit analysis:

(Added Time + Effort) > (Price Reduction - (Risk hack may not work)) = Savings

    • Same place, with an extra slice of cheese!

    • +2

The title wasn't clear to begin with but I think mods have reworded it to make sense.

      • +2

I reworded it after someone screwed it up causing chaos and confusion

        • Your first title wasn't very clear, hence the confusion.

"(hack) Quarter Pounder & Meals 13% discount via mymacca's App"

          New title is much clearer!

  • +2

Wasn't clear at first from the title what the actual discount was, but honestly that's kinda clever (and unbelievably cheap). Ty op, nice little menu hack.

  • -4

Sooo pull out the most expensive part of the burger for a small discount. hmmmm, I don't eat Maccas very often but this sounds like the opposite of a deal.

    • +4

Actually you're getting free cheese and saving $1.50

      • -1

yep just reread after seeing one of the other comments. Just really really badly worded deal posting.

      • +3

what a time to be alive!

    • Cheaper then buying a quarter pounder meal, what’s not to understand?

  • Nice one op

  • +13

Not sure if new high or new low for this community.

    • +7

Starting to think members here are on the poverty line

      • +4

Well you would know.. (Username checks out)

        • -1

It was supposed to be humorous in line with the Ozbargain spirit…..this as a bargain sounds quite concerning for those who need to go to this length.

      • woudn't be surprised if some are, but that's beside the point when you're on ozbargain isn't it.

    • +2

There are all sorts of hacks like changing kfc bucket deals and all the way back to dominos ordering pizza with the lot and changing the toppings to the pizza type you really wanted. I’m not sure why this post attracted so much vitriol but there have definitely been similar bargains in the past.

Some people justify it by saying that they are putting these new systems to the test, others are just happy to get cheaper food. These corporations pay millions of dollars for these systems so there is some level of smugness involved when these bugs are discovered. When you want to change all your staff into terminals I think this comes as part of the transition cost

    • Who cares we just saved money so now we can buy more deals.

We are like a positive feedback generator of deals and bargains.

I don't want to get off Mr Scottys wild ride

    • This is pure OzB

I wouldn't even call this a hack. It's just clever

  • +2

[Hack] Remove 1 Meat Patty from Double Quarter Pounder/Meal to Get Normal 1/4lber 14% Cheaper @ McDonald's via mymacca's App

….epic deal title just got more epicer. wtf is that?

    • got any suggestions

      • not that!

      • Well the whole point is getting a quarter pounder for 14% off, all the extra stuff can just be in the deal post, so title could be as simple as [Hack] 14% off Quarter Pounder Burger/Meal @ McDonald's

(also I'm assuming you don't need the app, can also be done on the screens instore?)
