been using this phone for 4 months, happy to answer any questions :))

hi do you think the hoursing market in melbourne will go down next year?

      • -2

OP's life is really suffering now…

      • +4

you need to ask something they might know the answer to.

hi do you think the hoursing market in Adelaide will go down next year?

      • Is there a market for hoursing?

    • How good are Night Sight and Astrophotography mode really?

      • +1

hey very impressed with them. I love taking more photos now in the dark

      • +2

Night site is brilliant and I regularly use. Astro mode is cool but it's more a gimmick than a regularly used feature.

        • +3

          Pixel 2 owner.
I usually use the Astro photography mode when I go on holidays away from the city and the photos turn out great. I use a Tripod and gCam by cstark27 (A modded Google Camera app with more features unlocked)

      • Night Sight is alot better than regular night photos obviously. I actually find it better than Samsung or Apple's but YMMV

        • Obviously it better than Apple and Samsung in most cases or at least on par with them.
The good thing is you can access it even on a pixel from 5 years ago.
I doubt any phone from 2016 or even 17 can be even usable in pitch dark without a flashlight.

          • @Mi2: Oh yeah absolutely, pitch dark with a flashlight would be complete dog water in comparison to Night Sight on Google

        • Which apple have you compared with? iPhone 12 night shots are better IMO than pixel 5 night shots. Also my old Samsung had manual mode which always resulted in better photos than my pixel night shots.

          • @onlinepred: Like I said, mileage may vary. Generally speaking just comparing to something like the iPhone 11. Also it's a bit unfair to say that "manual mode is better", because most people don't want to go through to effort to do so, hence why Night Mode even exists in the first place.

            • @avgbowlofpho: Strange, with ios14 even my iPhone 11 Pro takes very good night shots that aren’t as grainy as pixel 5.

              • @onlinepred: It's also worth considering that the Pixel phones have had the same camera setup since Pixel 2, so for what it's worth still impressive.

Not going to discredit the iPhone's night mode quality, it's really good. But to be fair people have to pay the premium for that "bit better" night shots.

                • @avgbowlofpho: Yea exactly why this is a budget phone. If you were to compare it against an iPhone, you couldn't, as apple don't make budget phones. You pay the premium to get a premium device really. If all you are about is photography you wouldn't get a pixel 4a anyway as they are so limiting with only a single lens. It's just a nice positive for those that want a budget phone, and a decent camera. Google really just sat on their photo situation for too long, and it's evident by the current flagships being able to outperform Pixels with higher quality lenses and less artificial manipulation.

How many kilojoules is the soup portion of an average pho bowl?

      • +1

How long is a piece of string? Lol :P

    • How fast is the camera at processing photos? Is there a noticeable pause after taking a photo?

      • For night sight it takes about 2-3 seconds. But otherwise most photos it's instant and you won't notice it.

      • It’s slower than any flagship from the last few years. If you take multiple in quick succession it will freeze.

  • +1

The punchole is annoying as hell, but otherwise this is a great compact phone with a great screen. Definitely worth it

    • +2

Isn't this same for basically all current gen phones, though?

      • yeah its on every phone. Ops camera pops out I guess

  • +1

I understand no chance of price match from Officeworks?

  • +1

    Is 10% GST included?

  • +4

I had to click through to the final page of checkout to find out but yes, GST is included.

  • Damn no 5g. Else would have bought without thinking

Hoping to score a deal before June when Google photos are limited storage then will get a pixel for unlimited HQ

    • +5

Have you seen this deal? Pixel 4a 5g $599 Delivered @ Telstra

4a 5g also has a bigger screen, better processor and better camera as well (extra wide angle lens) compared to the regular 4a. It's more similar to the pixel 5 as it shares the same processor and camera.

      • +1

It will also receive 6 months longer support both in feature updates and security updates. I wouldn't be buying a regular 4A these days unless budget was very tight.

      • +9

I prefer 4a just for the smaller size. Hate how every phone is now what used to be called a phablet.

        • Exactly why I am interested in this phone. Almost no Android One phones under 6" with reasonable specs.

      • That deal expired also it required you to sign up with a plan therefore no good

        • Ah didn't notice it had expired.

No it did not require you to sign-up to a plan, it was $599 outright, as mentioned in the deal description. I purchased 1 myself to use on my Optus prepaid plan.

          • @hamza23: Officeworks rejected my price match on this phone as they said the Telstra plan required a plan sign up. Knew they were fibbing but nought I could do.

          • @hamza23: Only if you jumped in early it would allow you to buy outright those who were late to the deal all reported to sign up with a plan cannot buy outright online

            • @neonlight: I purchased 11 days after the deal was posted.

Others ordered just 2 days ago eg.

Maybe because I already had a Telstra account. JB price matching was also quite successful though.

  • I am getting a $10 delivery charge for Melbourne. Any way around that?

    • Shipping is free for Prime members, so you can get around it by signing up for a 30-day free trial of Prime.

    • +1

To add to the above. If you aren't eligible for the free trial you can sign-up for a month of prime for $6.99 and still save $3 that way, rather than pay $10 postage.

      • Free trial is always available, just have to create a new account.

  • No wireless charging?

  • +3

Great small phone. Battery Life is good, sound quality on the phone and speaker is much better than pixel 2xl and the pixel 5(!!!!), good OLED screen, excellent photos. Good spam call filtering and quite often shows business name when receiving a call. Headphone jack still useful!

I purchased mine at JB hi-fi in-store for $535. Asked them for best price and stated $535 was what I was told. Seemed to work about 4 months ago.

Still a bit overpriced at the price i paid. But if you like good clean Android and pixel features in a compact phone - this is a winner and it meets my needs.

    • FYI you can get pixel dialler on any android.

      • Can confirm, I did this a while back on my Motorola G4 Plus

  • +1

What about warranty? Will it work in Australia or need to send it to the UK?

  • Expired ? Showing as $689 for me.

  • +1

    It's back !!!

    • slightly more, but it is indeed. Just ordered one

  • have anyone got their order dispatched? mine was ordered on 30-Mar but still says not yet shipped (delivery date pending).

    • also ordered mine on the 30th. Still hasn't shipped

      • fyi I've finally received mine today

        • You did? I just cancelled my order today haha. Did you get a notification letting you know that it'd been sent?

          • @Toffees: yeah the tracking was updated on the orders page. it was sent out on 14th
