I was just thinking about this game.

I wanted to play this ever since I read about it in Hyper magazine.

My man, don't do that to me. Sweet, sweet memories…

Hyper, PC Powerplay and later Atomic MPC were the source of my gaming and PC news during my teenage and early adult years. I miss those days of awaiting a new issue every month… even if that news was out of date by the time I read it. I still have the complimentary posters from each Hyper issue in a cardboard tube somewhere and I break out the Wipeout 2097 soundtrack that was complimentary with my Hyper subscription.

Also miss the feeling of getting demo discs… only superseded by the feeling of when I got 2x 256Mb USB sticks before USB sticks were a thing and downloading heaps of stuff at the Uni Library computers onto it (before they implemented logins on those library computers). Still had dial up at home at the time. SG-1 episodes didn't take 1-3 days to get anymore!

          Are you me?

          • @tromboc: Only if you also watched The Zone, and had a few issues of Gamestar magazine too.

I remember downloading the Quake II demo on twenty-four 2.44MB floppies because the Uni had fast internet via microwave link and I only had a 28.8kbps modem.

Took me a few tries, over several days because at least one of the discs would have a CRC error every damn time.

Still faster than downloading at home.

          • +1

@ItsMeAgro: Just looked it up and the demo was 10.2MB so it'd be 8x 1.44MB floppies (1.38MB formatted) or 5x 2.44MB floppies

I used to have enough trouble taking a 10kb school report to school on a single 1.44mb floppy as it would always be CRC error by the time I went to read it in the library. Needed to copy my work onto 3 or 4 floppies before taking it to/from school as they would always error. Crap technology.

@Agret: At least you weren't a system administrator back then.

Microsoft Office 97 Professional edition is provided on a total of 55 diskettes. Depending on the options selected during Setup, you may not be prompted for every diskette. Source

Boss: "How productive were you today?"
Sysadmin: "I half-installed Office on one of the computers.." images drive to never go through that again

            • +1

@Agret: I use to have two cases in my bag that would each hold 10 floppies… I'd duplicate the contents in one set in the other set. Did that for 5 years before doing a year long IT project where one of the team members got me my first ever USB sticks… $150 for a 256Mb stick and I got two of them but it was great having all my files on one stick and then using the second one for downloading what ever I wanted in the background when working on the uni computers.

Fast forward 20yrs and I'm still lugging around a pencil case with USB sticks lol

          • +1

@ItsMeAgro: LOL. Yeah, yeah the relatively unrestricted access were a god send.

I never attempted such a huge transfer of a file from Uni to home… only had to RAR up the odd Mega Drive or SNES rom that was larger than a single floppy.

First played this on Original Xbox, Loved the game. Unfortunately no controller support for XIII Classic PC version.

  • Picked this up in a bundle recently but had played the original game as a Christmas gift when it first came out, haven't had time to sit and play my new copy and re-visit it just yet but IMO great little game to kill some time

for a second i thought this was the remake for free and was going to say that you'd have to pay me to play the remake given how god awful it is.

  • +2

Just played again and still great fun. XIII was released 17 years ago, but the cel shading makes it seem more recent.

  • I still have the original game, never could part from it. All these years waiting for the next BD to be published! Gosh just want to travel home… 😭

Thanks for posting, I don’t have a PC but will set up windows with bootcamp 🥳

Mr. Roland…It's been such a long time!

  • Never finished it but awesome game and graphics!

  • Nice find! I kept wanting this game!
It looks like an old school Borderlands.

  • thanks, claimed!

  • The original is a great FPS. Shame about the remake.

  • Has Cyberpunk been added to anyone else's cart automatically? I found it in there last time there was a game giveaway on GOG and removed it, now it's back in there.
It reminds me of U2 adding their album to people's iTunes, CDPJ are adding their game to people's shopping carts.

banger of a game! Mad nostalgia here

  • Do you play as Taylor Swift? Sounds awful

  • The remake unfortunately changed the art style for the worse. And David Duchovny can't act. They missed an opportunity to recast his character.
