Dell Inspiron 15 3505 (Ryzen 5 3450U, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, FHD, Win10) $599.20 Delivered @ Dell eBay

310
PDLT20

This popular laptop is back in stock in Dell's eBay store (the AMD Ryzen 7 3700U was previously posted for about ~$100 more, see link below). Solid specs for an entry-level laptop for general usage. I've been browsing for new and secondhand laptops around the $400-800 price range and came to the conclusion that this laptop is best value, particularly for a new laptop.

Not the lowest price from the previous Black Friday sale of ~$560, but still decent if you need a laptop now. You can use 5% off eBay gift cards to get to ~$570 and 2% cashback on top of that.

AMD Ryzen 7 3700U v Ryzen 5 3450U:
From some brief googling, I found that the performance score difference between these processors were marginal (for general usage) and wouldn't be able to justify the extra ~$100 (particularly as I'm buying this for the in-laws), but really depends on each user's needs!

Bought it during the last discount. Good laptop for the price, no problems with it. Surprisingly, came missing one bolt at the bottom. It has one empty SATA spot for an HDD, no SSD M2 spot apart from the main one. I think it has an extra spot for RAM. No keyboard backlight.

  • No USB-C port, but so what!

    • So no external 4k@60Hz monitor?

  • Could make a good alternative to a NUC. However, "Fast Ethernet" and "HDMI1.4" is a bit of a bummer.

Honestly this laptop seems like a pretty good deal but then I saw the 100mbps ethernet port. I don't know why that is such a big deal to me tbh but if a raspberry pi can manage a gigabit port then surely this can.

Wouldn't have thought many people use ethernet on a laptop, so i guess they choose to save some money in that area.

      • True, can tell I am not a regular laptop user 😅

      • you never know when you might need to ethernet

100mbps is pretty shit slow..to save cost on.

  • Thanks OP, got one. Maybe update the title to say it is Win10 'S'…? This version forces you to pay $50 to unlock pro. If you don't, you can only install apps from the MS store. I didn't realise until after I bought, but still happy.

According to TenForums, you can switch from 'Windows 10 Home in S mode' to 'Windows 10 Home' for free (as long as you stick to the same edition).

You can also upgrade to another edition (eg. Pro) for additional cost.
