This CPU might be a bit overkill If you purely looking for a gaming purposes. The ryzen 3600 is a good bang for buck and is $299 at various other vendors.

    • isnt it worth it for a smoother experience? heard it helps with the 1% or 0.1% lows in RDR2 apparently

    • +1

There's a good arguement to go the 5600x since the FPS jump can be quite significant at 1080p, especially if you plan to upgrade your graphics card in the next few years (when prices are more sane). See https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/amd-ryzen-5-5600x-zen-3….

If you have an RTX 3060 or lower and don't plan to upgrade anytime soon the 3600x is great value as they can be had for about $250-260 on sale.

      • +6

If you're building now, 11400 with b560 is the way to go. AMD is currently poor value for gaming.

        • Just checking them out now. Definitely look like great value!

        • +1

where to get that budget 11th gen motherboard tho?

        • -1

Price difference gets ate up a bit from the power consumption and mobo though.

equivalent motherboards between AMD vs Intel will cost you $50 for Intel
Double power consumption and increased need for PSU Pins can also lead to a possibility of needing to buy a new PSU too.

So depending on your upgrade, it could be more costly to get the cheaper Intels.
11400 also cant OC and likely wont be as well optimised in many games compared to an 11600.

      • will the 3600x works on B350?

        • +1

it should yes, a bios update is required, but check with your MB vendor.

  • It ships through UPS. Got mine within a couple days iirc

Not sure why the price was changed, but I'm sure there was a reason. It's still showing as 445.50 Delivered for me.
Not complaining, just interested to know what I've done wrong. :)

    • It also shows 445 to me but when i enter payment PayPal page it shows up a USD for 341.57 and a rate USD-AUD. I did a calculation the result is 465.7AUD.

      • Interesting, I hadn't taken the payment that far, as I'm not in the market right now, was just scouting about for a friend.
You could try different payment options, Mastercard etc may return a better conversion rate maybe?

        • I guess that price is without levy & gst

  • +2

This will get cheaper soon, will be under $400 soon

    • +1

Yeah probably. But my old AMD FX 8120 is getting tired so I need a upgrade :)

    • +7

Everything gets cheaper the longer you wait. Except if it's a 3090

      • +6

Maybe 12 months after 4080 is released?

      • +1

yep im kicking myself now. I didnt try to buy a 3080/3090 on release because i wanted to wait for the Strix to release and was also hoping for a 3080Ti (still waiting). I intend to buy a water block for whatever I purchased, so the Strix was my best bet as its the custom card most likely to get waterblocks. Another reason i waited is i was unsure how well these cards would go with only a backplate to cool the memory. The crap thing now is that even if a 3080Ti is released, assuming i can even get my hands on one somehow, i will probably pay more than what i could have gotten a 3090 for when it was released.

Times have changed. You are better off now with an i5-11400, i5-11500 or i5-11600, all have an iGPU and the last two have Intel UHD Graphics Xe 750. Always good to have backup video support.

    • +2

There's an argument to be had there for sure, but there's many factors indicating otherwise.
The Intel boards can be more expensive generally speaking, especially the ones that allow overclocking of both RAM and CPU.
Of the examples you linked, only the 11600K/KF are Overclockable too.
You've also got higher power consumption, and subsequently heat to deal with on the Intel options.

    • +1

Nothing changed for Intel, you can have 9th gen and games will still run relatively the same

      • 9th Gen intel is actually worth a look right now, the motherboards are so much cheaper that it can be worth it in some scenarios.

    • Could use the same argument and say just wait another month or two for the Ryzen Cezanne APUs with iGPU performance up to double Rocket Lake in the 5300G/5600G.

      • +1

not really, SamR is talking about facts today, you're speculating about future events, remember gpu prices back in September/October, people always thought that things would be better

        • +1

Many users/buyers make purchasing decisions based on what's coming up in the near future. Hence why most will say "I'm waiting for this or that". Engineering samples of Cezanne are already in the wild being tested so rough performance is already known. That's as good as fact and not unreasonable to consider this information when making purchasing decisions.

    Do they provide Australian Warranty?

    • +2

From my understanding Australian Consumer Law applies to the Australian customer no matter who or where the seller is. So even if they don't provide the warranty, the consumer law would apply. However, I'd imagine that it would be tedious using that for replacement or return purposes

      • +1

doesn't Paypal have a free returns thing? It's been posted on here previously.

  • +1

Do you mean PayPal will cover the cost of return postage? That's a different thing. Paypal cannot enforce the seller to provide the warranty. However, I believe that CPU is not very easy to be damaged unless you overclock it heavily.

    • +1

many yank companies happily sell customer returns as new to overseas buyers because of return costs. paypal would cover those 'accidental' mistakes if it arrives open, with glue etc as long as you take a pic upon receipt. date/time stamp etc

It seems more local stock will come very soon. I placed an order in Nov last year on amazon. I just had a chat with an amazon rep. He said local stock will be available on 17th of April.

  • why are people still buying this, boggle the mind

    • Why?

      • very expensive, 10400, 11400 or 3600 are all much better option

        • +2

I've been collecting bits for a couple of months and already have an AMD motherboard. I like that the 5600 uses less power than the 3600, not sure what that equates to in dollar terms but any saving is a good saving if I keep it for a few years.

          • @EightImmortals: should just buy zen 2, if you want more juice then get 3700x, https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/611506

firmly stay away from 5600x and 5800x

            • @ln28909: Haven't you seen any benchmarks? The 5600x beats the 3700x even at 1440p with a 3080. It's a sizeable upgrade. And if people want to say otherwise, I'd just like to remind them that the difference between the 3060ti and a 3070 is also about 10%, with a higher difference in price

              • -1
                • @ln28909: Those tests are done with a 2080ti so the results at 1440p are a lot more GPU limited. Have a look at any of the benchmarking videos that use a 3080 you'll find the gap will just keep increasing the more graphics power you add to your system, eg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZnW-6kEKlo . If anyone is interested in future proofing their machine (or if they already have 3080 levels of GPU performance like I do) then the 5600x is just hands down the best option

                  • -3

@bumluffa: it doesn't work that way lol, if using a 2080 ti only has a 2-3% difference then using a 3080/3090 you would see no difference because you'll be even more gpu bound

                    • +2

@ln28909: I'd suggest you have a long hard think about what you just said

                      • @bumluffa: Yup GPU bound mean CPU makes no difference as long as it is not a potato, suggest you do further research

          • @EightImmortals: How often do you use your CPU at 100% load

Power consumption isn't linear, even a 14nm intel CPU doesn't use enough power in normal circumstances to be worth worrying about

            • @greatlamp: OK thanks, I'm not really up on how that side of things works. :)

              • @EightImmortals: It's worth considering on a laptop, as it affects battery life.

On a desktop, the only consideration should be heat output, the extra electricity costs would be about $2 a year. When we are talking about 6 core cpus, that will never be a concern either.

                • @greatlamp: Fair enough. Kinda makes the 3600x a bit more tempting but if the 5600x gets closer to the $400 mark it might be a better buy.

                  • @EightImmortals: I think the 5600x should get a price cut soon, once the competition from 11th gen intel starts to bite.

It really doesn't cost AMD much more to make a 3600 or a 5600, they are both 7nm parts. Keep an eye on reviews for the 11700. It's priced around $500, and it should perform close to a 5800x

                    • +1

@greatlamp: Cheers, I already have an AMD motherboard ready to go so I'm locked in there, just torn between the 3600 and 5600. :) Might wait a couple of weeks and see where the price goes.
