    endless fun!

    • Not every ID you select will work e.g. any gov. related ones :P

    • -1

It should be illegal to do that.

      • +1

Never likely to happen given the SMS Standard. E-Mail works the same way (i.e. you can spoof the Sender details). Should it be illegal as well? There are legitimate reasons why one might spoof the Sender details.

Malicious use of the service is bound to be illegal by a number of other clauses - particularly annoyance, scamming, misrepresentation etc…

  • Works, cheers.

  • Thanks , exactly what i needed.

Lets get the fun started with texts from Jesus :D
Now if they only had an iphone app :(

  • +1

lol I just sent a message as God.

    • +1

is the subject of concern going to heaven or hell lol

    • +2

It's almost always the first one people do ;)

  • Is it ok to put fake ground address?

    • +3

No, that's part of the security checks. Don't worry, we're not going to visit you or anything… :)

  • +5

The 300 free credits expire in 90 days, FYI. Pretty reasonable. From their ToS:

    12) All promotional credits are the property of SMS Broadcast. Promotional credits will expire after 90 days. However, if you purchase credits from SMS Broadcast you will retain your promotional credits.

    • +7

      :(

SMS Gobal sometimes has free credits, and they don't expire. :)

      • +3

        Yep. Love SMS Global.

        • +3

and you can send them anywhere in the world!

        • +6

          …hence the name global. :P

  • +2

    What about this:

" All promotional credits are the property of SMS Broadcast. Promitional credits will expire after 90 days. However, if you purchase credits from SMS Broadcast you will retain your promotional credits. "

  • Seems to work quite well, thanks guys

Did anyone find a way to schedule SMS messages?

    • +1

Use the 'Send Message' option on the menu. It's one of the options.

  • +1

    Great, it works. TKS.

  • +1

    This is AWESOME!

I tried sending to New Zealand but no luck…used 64xxxxxxxxxx….format but could not send. tried twice.

    • +7

They do say on their site that they only send to Australian mobiles.
      (see https://www.smsbroadcast.com.au/rates)

      • I meant that I registered with my Oz number and tried sending an sms to a New Zealand number but it would not allow to fully enter a NZ mobile number in 64xxx… format.

  • +2

I guess this will sort of turn out like http://www.pinger.com/textfree/ . That has unlimited free texts to mobile. :P

    • Awesome site. Works really well. Even for international numbers. The only thing is that you cannot set the sending number as text. Thanks mate.

      • It does work well but I contacted them as I want them to allow Itunes users from Australia to download the app. Now if only we could call any number for free and then we would only need phones with data. No text and talk. :P

    • Nice fine but Im a little confused.

It's free for you (the Textfree user). However, standard messaging rates apply for the people you are texting. Because Textfree gives you a US phone number, your friends abroad will incur international fees!

So does that mean the recipient/your friend will pay for your text? or only if they reply to the textfree-number sms?

      • +3

It means that if I text you, and you reply to the text i'll get it but it would be like you smsing a US no.

    • oops double post

    • Wow never heard of this site before. But just signed up and it seems great! Thanks!!

    • The zip code is invalid. for Bendigo …… :(

  • You have made my Saturday night.

So what's the funniest text message that you have sent?

    • We use SMSGlobal at work to send messages that appear from other staff saying "Please give me a call when you can." The recipient then calls the supposed sender and listening to the phone call is a classic! :)

    • +1

Funniest I have sent so far is using "Vodafone" as the sending number.

The text in the message was "U currently owe $518 due today,Incl GST, may not include recent charges.U can call 1555 to pay within 30 minutes otherwise your mobile will be disconnected"

      • -3

Funny? I call that a nuisance, bordering on criminal, call. It's bad enough with all these Indians wasting my time with BS calls, but to have some juvenile in Australia sending this crap out. Very annoying.

        • +3

          So what's your mobile number?

      • +3

I sent a similar text to my girlfriend. Criminal? No. Juvenile? Maybe a little :) Funny? Hell, yes. She thought it was hilarious when I let her in on the fact it was a prank. Some people need to lighten up a bit.

        • +3

I sent one to my bro who was flying Tiger about a year ago with SMS global
          'Tiger Air'
We regret to inform you that we have lost your luggage. Upon arrival, can you please make your way to the service counter.

It backfired a bit, as I had to pick him up and he was blasting the service counter staff, and they were trying to tell him they don't do sms, all the while, luggage was spinning around the carasuel. Made me wait for half an hour more than I had to - but it was worth it.

I am always watching my back now as he has vowed to get me back, but thought it was extremely funny!!

  • +1

Seems pretty funny, but you need to be next to a person to see their reaction lol.

  • +2

It's fun, but aren't you guys worried that you're going to be put in a database and get every bit of spam companys send out? I am :(

  • Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet for Freeee! lol thanks OP

  • When does this promotion expire?

  • this will be fun for April fools day! ;)

  • Just tried to signup and apparently it has been expired. Thanks anyways!!

    • Nope, the code still works. Maybe you mistyped it?

      • +1

Yup u r right. I made a mistake. Sorry all.

  • I got the activation code on my mobile, entered it online but now I can't log in…?

    • Try the Forgot Password link on the login box, or email [email protected] for help.

      • +1

thansk mate. Awesome rep. Keep this coming.

      • Tried the Forgot Password link, it refuses to recognise my username. Have sent a note through the website.

  • Thanks rep! This is fun.

  • +3

    hi rep,
how many sms do you need to buy to keep the 300 free ones from expiring?

    • The minimum purchase is 500 messages, which will cost $27.50.

      • Used to be 7.7c per sms a year ago (now 5.5c). Good to see price dropping.

        http://web.archive.org/web/20110219155442/https://smsbroadca…

      • So additional Txt are 5.5c/txt?
I prefer pennytel VOIP, $5/mth I get 80 free landline calls (oz& other countries), 50 free txt & then 5c/txt.
        Web/app for sms & call back/call setup.

  • Expiry! Bad!

    • I need more negs!

  • -7

    Fake details work. x_X.

Whoever put real information is potentially exposing themselves to identity theft.

However, a nice piece of social engineering you wrote on ozbargain, Lee.

    • +2

Um. So i guess you don't do any online shopping?

    • +5

don't walk outside or you are potentially exposing yourself to harmful rays from the sun.

      • -4

No, I'm just stating that the rep is misleading people.

        Nothing more, nothing less…
        oh well.

  • Thanks for this.

  • +2

Awesome. This is God texting you… :P

  • SMSFUN is the best, it has the most uncluttered screen, it sends your actual number to them so they can easily reply just like a normal sms.

    http://www.smsfun.com.au/

You get 40 free SMS a day.

More than enough for most people and the site works well on mobile devices.

Works really well on plans that charge SMS's you can really cut your costs down that way.

    [MOD EDIT] Referral link removed.

    • -1

"SMSFun from time to time send you informative offers. These will never be more than one per week, and you can opt out at any time in your account."

Is it a 'jump through many hoops' type of opt-out or truly opt out? Anyone else use SMSFUN? No problems with spam etc.?

    • +1

SMSFUN also attach an advert below every text unless you are a gold member.
      Bad idea there.

    • +2

SMSfun sneaks advertisements into your texts to others, but when you test it by sending a sms to yourself it doesn't do it - giving you the false impression that there is no advert in your texts. Tricky dicky!

      • +1

Yep makes you look like a tightass without you even knowing it!! :)

  • My browser crashed before I could put in the SMS authorisation code, any way to do it again?

    • Send an email to [email protected] with your username and activation code. We will activate it for you.

  • -2

With SMSFUN you get 5 free JOOBZ when you sign up, these can be used for sending GOLD SMS's which will send the sms without any advertising. Also if you get someone to signup under your referral link, you get 5 joobz as well, I got 4 signups from this thread so I got an extra 20 joobz, thanks guys :)

But just use your joobz when you really need to send a message without advertising in it.

  • Are you able to send messages longer than 160 characters on SMSBroadcast?
I've tried and it blocks you from going further. Any way to allow sending it in the settings?

I know that with SMS Global all it does is roll over and count it as two messages which works fine.

    • +1

You can now send SMS messages up to 765 characters long, using the Send Messages option on the menu.

      • Thanks lee

  • when does the promo code expire?

    • We have not yet set an expiry on the code.

  • -2

Just a heads up, if you're wondering why https://www.smsbroadcast.com.au looks crap on your phone and pad, its cos they put zero work in to mobile browsers :(

    http://validator.w3.org/mobile/?docAddr=http%3A%2F%2Fsmsbroa…

  • I really like the idea of SMS as a reminder tool and am interested in using it for an appointment reminder.
I checked out some of the competition and SMSBroadcast seems to be pretty well priced. Any chance an import facility that also lets you schedule the reminders as you import? The current method is a little too time consuming when having to schedule multiple reminders. I'm thinking of something like the import feature on AppointmentSMS (http://www.appointmentsms.com.au) which allows date/time for each message to also be imported.

Folks, a BIG WARNING. When the free-credit expiry was due, I signed up with them to retain the free credits, and the service seemed pretty good. I've been using them lightly ever since. But today I realized a person I'd smsed the previous day through the service never got my sms. I checked my account history and discovered about half a dozen smses NEVER GOT DELIVERED*. An sms gets a status of DELIVERED (all okay), SENT (not confirmed delivered), or FAILED (definitely did not get delivered). You get no notification about delivery failures (e.g. an email). The only way you know if an sms gets successfully delivered is if later you go check your account history.

If you want a reliable sms service, smsbroadcast.com.au is not for you. If you enjoy playing Russian Roulette with your smses then you'll have fun. Pretty disappointing, because it was saving me high sms fees on my old Optus plan. But the inconvenience and confusion caused by these failed deliveries is not worth saving 20c.

    • sometimes smses got through to these particular numbers, sometimes they didn't, so it was not an issue with the number (I used the address book list).
