  • Is there a 70mm version?

    • Nope, 90mm is now the standard cutout size for downlights 13W and under.

You might need to expand the hole from 70mm to 90mm if you wish to upgrade to smart downlight.

      • Yah fair enough. I've got 40+ downlights at home so I'll probably go the smart switch path instead.

        • A smart switch is a good option as well if you are not into RGBW colours.

        • @loksmack and @Lectory LED Lighting

I have a similar situation. Is there a smart switch you can suggest or recommend? My preference is something that works natively via Apple Home Kit, but Tuyu based options are also fine as I do run HomeBridge.

    • +1

Bunnings do a 7W downlight with the smaller cutout. But it costs more and also puts out less light. Probably best to follow the reps advice and make the hole bigger.

  • Our lights has an outside diameter of 110mm.
Do you have any specials on this size?

  • This 9w smart downlight's outside diameter is 115mm, it will fit in your existing ceiling hole.

  • Is this any good for installing in just one room or would the Zigbee one be better?

    • Zigbee version requires a Zigbee bridge to work, this WIFI version works directly with a wi-fi router.

The Zigbee bridge usually controls up to 50 lights but the WIFI downlights do not have a quantity cap, it really depends on how good your wifi router is.

Wifi downlight is a cheaper way to do a smart lighting upgrade compare to Zigbee downlight.

  • +3

With most cheap lights, the colour modes are very dim. It would be nice to have lumens in RGB modes, as well as white lumens.

  • Anyone know what wifi chip these use? Is it an ESP based chip?

    • I would assume it would be the same as the Arlec 9W Tuya compatible LED lights which are ESP based. However anything being sold now would need to be hard wired to do a tasmota conversion. Local Tuya would still work fine if its for home assistant

  • Hi, it says you can control remotely, so can you conrol it on the phone if not at home?

    • Yes, you can control the light in the house from work or Cell Phone Roaming Signal, there is a 1-2 seconds delay depends on how good your internet router is. (just tested)

  • Do these have an IP rating suitable for installing outdoors in the roof eaves or under a verandah?
They may get an occasional splash on them when I use the power washer on the brick walls, and there would be moisture when the wind blows the rain.
If not, are there other suitably IP rated RGB lights around?

    • This light is IP44 rated, you can install them in under a verandah or in roof eaves.

We will still cover 2 years warranty

  • Any deal without rgb? Am looking for 6000k wifi that's can be controlled by smart life app as I have other wifi bulbs under this app saving multiple apps. Also looking at Kmart mirabella genio wifi downlight at $22 each.

  • Hey OP,

Are there any smart downlights that are not as high? I tried putting one of these in my roof and the old one was 40mm high and pushing up against a metal beam to hold plaster.
When I install this it doesn't sit flush so looking for something with a little smaller form factor.

    Cheer

    • Sorry mate, I had a look on the market, nothing in smart is shorter than 40mm.

  • Is this dimmable?

    • +1

Yes, it is dimmable via phone app or google home.
