  • How do they make money? I'm really sceptical over completely free products. What's in it for them?

    • We get paid from the Network and thus we provide free service to public. There is no gimmic involved its a genuine free service.

Try it and you would love it.

      Just Dial 0424 21 51 52

      and follow the prompts.

      Cheers,

      Happy Calling ! !

      • I like this idea of being "paid from the network"

How can I get "paid" if people call my mobile number?

Maybe then i wouldnt mind having a long chat with those indian telemarketers :)

        • Indian Telemarketer….Lol

If you are on Telstra network and you call Vodafone, than Telstra pays a fee to Vodafone…Thats where network makes money, thus we can call for free and its a win win situation…

  • this is really awesome!!

    thank you!! ^_^

  • when i was in the US, they have something similar like this (http://www.futurephone.com/) and I used it all the time.. unfortunately they got sued by some phone providers and they had to close it down.. hopefully it won't happen here in australia ^_^

  • This would be OK for an occasional call or if you have included credit you need to use up, otherwise with VoIP providers like PennyTel or MyNetFone you could talk for 15 - 30 minutes on what this would cost in flagfall alone.

No bargain for people that call OS a lot unless you are not paying the mobile bill

    • Yes, for frequent callers, VOIP companies like MyNetFone, etc, etc, etc, offer calls for as little as free or 10 cents unlimited with some plans.

Try here for best VOIP plans and ideas:

      http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-threads.cfm?f=107

Ringing a mobile number to initiate foreign calls might be good for emergencies etc, but ultimately is still going through a VOIP network anyway.

  • Similar service previously mentioned in the forum,
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/4786

and http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=982066 has some discussion on a couple of these companies.

Apparently they make a profit on the incoming termination fees.

  • Yes you are correct my friend.

  • what's an incoming termination fee?

    • I believe they get a cut from their provider that earns $$ when you call that mobile number.

      • Yes this is exactly how it works ! ! !

    • Do a search on "Mobile Termination Rates". I think it's the same thing.

      Edit: Here's a quote:

Mobile termination rates are the fees mobile phone companies charge other carriers to terminate calls on their networks and are a significant input cost in providing the retail service of fixed-to-mobile and mobile-to-mobile calls.

  • Actually, this is a great workaround for people who are on the PennyTel TTYD plan (38.8 cents untimed Aus mobile) and wish to call countries which are outside of the 8 cents or 38.8 cents untimed (not that many more countries though).

    Call quality, now that's another issue… :)

    • Very useful and great lateral thinking!

      If you'll pardon the pun.

  • there are a few companies offering the same deal, you should probablycheck with your mobile provider if they are on your free/cheap minutes plan:

it's a shame none of them cover every country, I'd really like one that does this deal to the philippines (typically very expensive call rates to/from there)…

    • it’s a shame none of them cover every country, I’d really like one that does this deal to the philippines (typically very expensive call rates to/from there)…

Maybe that's why no providers are offering free/cheap rates to Philippines. Maybe the termination rate on a Philippines network provider is too expensive to be subsidised?

    • I think all of them provide a generic mobile number and it does not belong to any network as such and would cost local mobile ..

Best idea is to get those land line plans with Primus or Optus where you get unlimited calls to any mobile any network..

Than you can call International absoluetly free of cost..

      Cheers

    • Philipines is the most expensive destination thus its not included in the country list..

  • tried it today… i ask me to press 1 to NOT receive free info messages… sounds real dogy so i just hang up…

  • i called and the voice quality is not bad at all. There's a half second delay in voice being send, but it's free so it's good enough for me.

    • did you try Freedom call or the other providers ….

  • my VOIP provider charges me $0.28 to any mobile in OZ and to USA is $0.02 per minute. The website specifically advertise for India in their example which is $0.19 with my VOIP provider - still less than local mobile charge.

Unless you have one of those cap plan (an they haven't excluded the specific mobile number), the mobile phone charges could exceed the normal call charges! Very misleading claiming it is FREE!

    • I think cap plans are who this service is aimed at. Most people are on caps now anyway.

    • And I guess some people on PennyTel's Talk Til You Drop plan would also benefit from this.

      • True. However with that plan you can also call 70 countries untimed for 8c…

        • Absolutely! For those countries, PT is much better. I guess people needing to call India/Bangladesh/Pakistan would benefit most.

However now that I've learnt that they might keep your number and possibly spam you, I'm more inclined to give this a negative too.

  • my plan with Vodafone gives me free mins to other Vodafone nnumbers. 0424 is on vodafone network according to this wiki http://www.overclockers.com.au/wiki/Mobile_Phone_Super_Wiki_…

Would that mean i get free mins on this number? Guess I should call vodafone to find out.

    • The number isn't on any network as per its FAQ.
"Same mobile network to same mobile network minutes are not covered with our service,"

    • no you wont get free min… ^^

    • Yes this number is on Vodafone network, but I am not sure if you get free minutes vodafone to vodafone. As bieng on same network and bieng a part of same deal is two differnt things.

For e.g. Even Virgin mobile is also on Vodafone network but that donest mean we can vodafone to virgin for free.

      • Virgin is on Optus, not Vodafone.

      • nizi: My plan gives me unlimited free mins to other Vodafone numbers. I only pay for 18 cents flagfall. This is my specific deal for many years.

  • nizi, this seems to be your company, can you tell me what's the 1st prompt for? It says to NOT receive free info in the future, please press one… does that mean if i do not press 1 or hang up i will get unwanted sms??

    • System would keep your number for fuuture marketing purpose. That's what would happen. But if you press 1 than it won't. Even if it keeps it that doesnt mean that you would be bombarded with sms or ….

  • They are all shonky from my previous experiences, horrible quality, call dropouts, and not always available. I use Pennytel instead

    • Pennytel is a good one to use, but you get untimed calls to any mobile phone in australia and with this service you get Internatioanl Calls at local mobile charge, so if you combine Pennytel with Freedomcalls.com.au than its a great combo and you get unlimited free international calls..How good is that…Voice quality is heaps better now..Try it you would love it…

  • i am going to give this a negative for a couple of reasons:
    - not a bargain by any means - get a calling card from any newsagency, much much much cheaper then calling an australian mobile!!
    - because this nizi guy is bombarding ozbargains with this deal - annoying and giving a negative image of his business

  • I think the title is very misleading. These are not free calls. It should read call overseas for the same rate as you call an Australian mobile, because thats what the cost is. So save on overseas mobile rates BUT NOT free

    • Agreed. It isn't a free service. The charge incurred is the cost of an Australian mobile call.

  • i just used this… clarity was ok… sometimes there were a few voice drop outs…

overall.. i reckon i would use this in future for casual calls… but probably if its something really urgent or an important discussion, i would revert back to the normal way of just dialling the international number..

p.s … im on a cap plan of 49$ on 3…. so i guess this kind of thing helps me…

  • Look its not Free service at all we pay local mobile call charge and if you are on a Cap Plan $49 or $99 than you can make international calls free of charge in a way that its included in the cap. Its free to use when you have landline plans with Optus or Primus as they offer deals in which you can make unlimited calls to any mobile any network in australia than calling international would be free effectively.

Even Virgin provides such deals on landline plans..get those and than Freedom Calls is an effective way to make international calls.

  • Now that the original poster has become a spammer on this site this deal gets a negative from me.

  • a negative from me for his constant spamming. and reasons why this is free - if it continues I will unpublish as well, so this idiot will learn

  • voted neg because the number is always busy!!

    • We are in the process of increasing the capacity of the system and it would take in effect from this Friday, we have got overwhelming response thus its gone really busy, Apologies for inconvenience caused.
