  • Do we need subscription to use app?

    • +3

Nope, but to store videos & photos on Ring servers you need a subscription

  • Do i have to subscribe to save or view the video?

    • +1

Yeah looks like that stuff costs $3 a month or $30 a year, not terribly expensive but kind of annoying.

I plan to use it mainly to trigger outside lights if it detects motion at night so not a huge deal for me.

      Update: it's actually $4 a month and $40 a year in Australia

  • 4 years ago when I bought my first Ring doorbell from Harvey Norman it was nearly $300
    Now its less than $100….hm…

    • Because there is more competition now and better products out there.

  • +4

You might need to buy a chime if you want to hear the doorbell in another room (far away from the door or wherever the ring unit it) unless you plan on relying on your phone.

    • Thanks. I thought these come with the chime module. Any of these come with chime?

    • +7

      Thanks for… chiming in

      I'll see myself out lol

      • +1

Don’t let the door hit ya

        • +3

But if it does, we'll have video of it!

    • +1

You can use any Amazon echo speaker/display.

      • as a replacement of chime?

  • This price seems amazing. Any catch? Keen to buy.

  • Is the battery removable to recharge on this model or do you take the whole unit off ?

Are the higher tier models worth waiting to go on special or is this good enough?

    • It is removable, best to buy a spare battery if its not hardwired so you always have one ready to go while the other charges. They're all 1080p, Ring 3 supports 5ghz and motion detection zones whereas 2 doesn't, but video quality wise its no different than 2

      • +1

Thanks for the detailed reply :)

      • how long does a charge of battery usually last?

      • +1

The battery is definitely not removable, I have this exact model and you have to unscrew the whole unit from the mount to charge it. You can't separate the battery from the unit.

Same details reflected on the product page: https://au-en.ring.com/products/video-doorbell-v2

Regarding main differences, the new Video Doorbell has 1080p HD video (vs 720p HD), customizable motion zones, and a revamped mounting setup that simplifies removal for battery charging.

    • +2

Pretty sure this model does not have the removable battery and you have to remove the whole unit to charge.

It’s a refresh of the first version with the biggest difference being it records in 1080p instead of 720p.

I’ve been tossing up between the Ring 3 and this one, with the battery being the biggest consideration.

  • +1

    So it's $64 with LatitudePay

  • +1

Added it to my cart and it get's listed as $119 …

    • +1

    • +1

About to post this too…page says 89 still though

  • Bunnings have price matched. Product shows as 119 on listing page but 89 on product page.

    • It seems there is none in wa

  • $118.79 on dicksmith ($108.11 with Plus) eBay store

  • Does this work with Google home

    • Yes, it works.

  • Will officeworks pricematch this one? They only sell the satin nickel.

    • They don’t have this colour so I think they won’t.

  • +1

    Price change?

  • I have had the RING for a few years now but bought the EUFY doorbell instead to replace it. It bugs me that I have to pay a yearly fee to store video.. which is a must.

  • +1

Wondering if this is a (cheap) worthwhile upgrade to the first version of the Ring doorbell which we've been using for several years?

Other than 1080p video instead of 720p, were sensors, battery life, anything else improved?

  • I had a Eufy 2k wireless doorbell and it kept on disconnecting and turning itself off frequently and randomly - needing a manual reset each time.

Thinking of getting a Ring doorbell instead, are they reliable?

    • +1

Worked very well for me. Just need good wifi

      • Thanks that’s what I wanted to hear. Getting a Ring instead now.

  • get eufy!!

    • Aren't they like 2-3x the price?

      • Worth it. There was 30% super cheap promo recently.
You can pair Homebase with camera.
