    Easy free money.

You don't need to send money to someone else overseas,

you can easily transfer AUD->GBP to your own wise (transferwise) account and then GBP->AUD back to your own aussie bank account.

    • So I take it I can't just transfer from Instarem straight to my AU bank account? There needs to be a currency conversion?

      • +1

        Yes, I think so.

I got a similar bonus last year and an "overseas" transfer was required.

You will easily see whether the bonus is working or not before you pay:
        1. Create transfer of $200 to overseas account (your own Wise account or similar is ok)
        2. Instarem will say that overseas account will receive ~110.50 GBP.
        3. Instarem will ask you to pay, but only $150 because $50 has been deducted.
        4. Receive ~110.50 GBP for $150.

        • great, thanks for the info!

        • Do you have to transfer GBP?

          • @Koipanda: no. doesn't need to be GBP

            • @devilbabies: Looking at Wise it looks like there are fees to transfer out, right?

              • +1

@gadgetguy: Yes. 0.65 GBP (I believe) + whatever you lose on the exchange rate.

$200 ($150 after discount) from Instarem to Wise will currently get you 110.39 GBP after fees and currency exchange
110.39 GBP from Wise to an Australian bank account will currently get you $196.58 after fees and currency exchange

Total gain $46.58. $3.42 lost in fees and currency exchange from both Instarem and Wise. (you could also lose or gain depending on currency fluctuations between the transfers)

blake21 below says you can also pay directly into an Aussie bank account that accepts foreign currencies. This would be simpler and possibly cheaper (depending on what your bank charges for the currency exchange)

                • @devilbabies: When I looked, it mentioned 3.95 GBP I think to transfer GBP to a non UK bank. Which I assume would apply here.

It also said this was in addition to "Wise fees" which look like another 3.69 GBP.

                  https://wise.com/help/articles/2977936/sending-gbp-to-countr…

If correct that's about $14 plus currency losses.

                • @devilbabies: Whatever you do, check of your Aussie bank charge fees for receiving international payments.

HSBC charged me $10AUD on the everyday global account

                  • @Koipanda: The same happened to me! plus they have a terrible exchange rate!

                  • @Koipanda: I didn't get charged for deposit into HSBC Global Account

                    • @Indomie5: How did you deposit it?

Did you have to put the bank SWIFT number?

                      • @Koipanda: I transferred to myself, just googled HSBC Australia swift code

        • Am having troubling doing this. I opened a 'Wise' account. Am all verified but can't receive in USD yet it seems, but can in EUR, GBP.

When I transfer with Instarem to myself, do I choose Australia as the country or the country for the Wise receiving account? If I choose United Kingdom, it asks for a SORT code and account #. However, on Wise's site, it says to only use this for receiving GBP from banks INSIDE of the UK. I'm not in the UK, but perhaps Instarem transfers within the UK.

Has anyone done this? Do you use the SORT code and account number and receive from "Inside the UK" ?

          • @bk1973: Yes, I used sort code and account number. Recipient Receiving Country will be United Kingdom. Recipient’s Residential Address will be in Australia.

          • @bk1973: Use "Inside the UK" is fine. Easier to use that Sort/Acc number for UK transfer.
It's easier to do GBP account too, which is there by default when we open (and generally faster for anything we deal with them, as Wise is UK based). I remembered I need to do a transfer first back then, before they gave me the USD and other currency account.

        • @devilabies and @hanofee , thanks for your help. I've gotten it to work. Both services seem pretty good.

  • Op, is 310GETSTARTED your referral code?

  • I got $50 deducted instead of $50 gift card (i.e. only paid $150 to send $200).

    • using the above code?

EDIT: Hmm sound like I need to send money first then I will get the bonus?

      • Yea using the above code.

        • where are you putting the code?

          • @Ash-Say: At the last step, before submitting the transaction.

    • it looks like the referrer gets a $50 giftcard and the referee gets $50 deducted off the cost of the transfer.

"Introduce us to your friends and you’ll get a $50 e-gift card on top of our regular referral reward of 400 Instapoints.
Your friends will also enjoy a $50 bonus on top of the 475 Instapoints referral reward."

    • Same here
      PAYMENT DETAILS
      Amount Sent: 150 AUD
      Amount Paid: 200 AUD
      Promotion Applied: 50 AUD

Would I still get a $50 gift card?

      • +1

        Gift card is for referrer.
Referee gets $50 reduction in transfer amount.

  • I am not sure if the steps are clear enough.

    1. To be clear you can still sign up using your friend's referral code or otherwise use the random generator to get a code to sign up.
    2. Once signed up and when making the first transaction, enter 310GETSTARTED so your friend gets AUD50 gift card and you have AUD50 deducted off your first transaction.
  • thanks op signed up using a random Oz bargain refferral code and added 310GETSTARTED coupon to send funds to my overseas account via payid. got $50 off and paid a $1.99 fee. with fees the rate was only about 1 pound difference from the stated rate on www.x-rates.com . it was instant funds arrived within 1 minute before i even entered my payment reference number. i wasnt sure what to enter in that field. is that the same as the transaction number instarem give you? now i have Instapoints Balance
777 . what can i use them for and do they ever expire?

    • Don't know why I've been charged $3.89 fee

      • probably depends on currency you choose.

    • Can you advise what overseas account you used that accepts payment via PayID?

      • Monese uk gbp account funds arrived instantly PM me if you have uk/EU id and need more info to open up one.

  • +1

I can confirm that you can send to Australian banks with this deal, just has to be in USD.

If your bank doesn't charge fees for receiving funds in another currency it makes it a lot easier then using another service.

    • +1

      Which bank did you use?

      • +1

        Ubank

        • can i ask what was the total amount in AUD you ended up receiving?

        • would also like to know the total amount in AUD you ended up receiving

        • Thirded!

    • +3

Safer to transfer to your own TransferWise (now Wise) borderless account and back. U'd probably lose about $1 at most due to conversion/fee.

  • +5

Be careful not to miss the place to enter the coupon code. It's on the bottom right of page that has the "Authorise Transfer" button. You need to click the link "Click to apply Instapoints/coupon", then change change the radio buttons from "Instapoints" to "Coupon".

The coupon code only works on the first payment. If you do go to the following page by mistake without entering the coupon code, you must go to your History page, cancel that payment, then create a new payment.

    Really smooth transaction!!!! Thanks.

  • I signed up 5 hours ago. I got this message after uploading all the id documents: "Our team is reviewing your account details. We'll get back to you within 1-2 business days"

    Happened to anybody else?

    • +1

Yes, but it only took about a few minutes (or maybe an hour).

      • Thanks! Just received the account-activated email.

      • Really? I have been waiting since yesterday morning.. hmm…

  • waiting for my CNY to be deposit…

  • Their support is ridiculous so far… I don't have a passport so I am stuck in the sign up process on the site… they tell me to send some other documents to an email, which I did but then they say they can't add those to my account until I finish the process on the site… ugh… -_-

  • Still waiting for the deposit. Hope I did it right :S

  • best sign up with AU passport not DL and choose e verify id it was instant for me i didnt have to upload anything and account was opened right away. i referred the wife but still haven't got the prezzee gift card via email. how does that take to come through?

    • +1

Hopefully this helps someone else. Don't try sending it straight to your own Aussie bank account. I sent $200 (paid $150, plus $50 coupon), and only received $140.

    Contacted InstaRem, and apparently:
"USD payment to non US country attract additional fees.
These charges are charged by the intermediate banks involved in processing amount to the beneficiary bank.
InstaRem is not responsible for sending it via different banks and nor do we charge the client."

About 140 USD magically became about 110 USD somewhere in the process that's invisible to me.

I see now the warning about this happening on the transaction page. Oh well. Enjoy my money, banks.

    • I deposited it to my HSBC Global account and received $153.21 USD(AUD $198.49)

      • I was charged $10 fee using HSBC Everyday Global. Which currency did you use to avoid the fee? I thought the fee is for every wire transfer via SWIFT?

        • +1

I got charged $10 this time when transferring from my partner's account to my HSBC Global

          • +1

@Indomie5: Thanks, I don’t think this fee is avoidable. Up bank also has the same fee of $10.

        • USD

  • I have just opened a Wise account to transfer the GBP into. However when trying to retrieve the account details it wants me to add money to my account first before it will share the details with me. Anyone know a way around this?

    • Just deposit it to my account

    • Wow, is that new thing? Cause usually u got the UK account by default. My friend just opened last week and got the account on opening. Maybe ask their CS?

      • I only had AUD and USD by default. I tried adding GBP as this is what most others seem to be doing. To get the details for any account even the AUD one it wants me to make a self deposit. I have verified my ID and email, not sure what else I could do.

        • Then use USD for this purpose. Or does it ask for deposit too? Not much difference. Ppl suggested GBP, cause that’s usually the default. Can’t use AUD for this, need “overseas” transfer

          • @hanofee: All account details are hidden until I make a deposit, so nope

      • @hanofee Don't know if it's new. I chose a EUR balance in Wise and had to add 20EUR (funded using AUD) before it would show the IBAN number and other details. Didn't mind though as I wanted to have a EUR account anyway

    • I had similar. I think it wanted a minimum of $30 or something. I put that in. It's easy to withdraw if need be.

  • Thanks. Easy to use, money transfer was instant.

I was wondering if anybody has received their Prezzee gift cards?

    • Keen to know as well

  • +2

For someone completely new to this, I definitely recommend using a Wise account, and sending money from InstaRem to the Wise account using GBP.
I ended up with $196.50AUD ish for $150AUD. Not bad for an hour or so work.

    • And the gift card?

      • Dunno mate, the gift card is for the person who referred me, not for the person being referred.

  • There is some issue while setting up the transaction. Please try after some time

just setting up Instarem to transfer .. should i try later?

    • clear your cookies try another browser or contact CS.

      • cheers.. contacted CS, they wanted screenshot, so I gave them .. and about a day later, they resolved the ticket without any explanation and I tried to send and it worked .. not sure what they did :)

  • +2

Did this recently with a Wise USD Account, ended up with ~198 AUD for 150 AUD. Pretty easy to send and receive.

  • How long does it take to process the transfer? Mine is sitting on "processing"…

    • I made my first $150 USD transfer from Instarem to my Citibank account on 07/05 and the funds still have not arrived, I was told to provide details and purpose of the transfer by their partner bank ( according to Instarem) and still nothing happened, I can't imaging it was this hard for the bank to verify such a simple FX transaction.

  • Ok my payment finally went through qfter some extra verification.

    Good deal!

  • it took a hot sec, but it finally got transferred into my account
