[NSW] Free Sydney Trail Walk (Normally ~$20) @ Secret City Trails

310

Secret tours will be held across the Sydney CBD this weekend with $10,000 worth of vouchers up for grabs for the first 2,000 people to solve the riddles and unlock the clues.

First 2,000 to solve these riddles get a $5 voucher towards a restaurant. There're 5 different routes, and 43 fun riddles to crack together.

Note that secret city trails normally costs money to participate (from when I clicked on other cities around the world), so there's the added benefit in addition to the $5.

Hopefully a fun family activity! Enjoy!

Update (11 May 21) from @BryRoo:

There's still 1,500 vouchers up for grabs.

Additionally, all trails in Sydney have become free for the next 6 months!

$5 isn't even enough to buy a coffee in the city let alone pay for their smashed avo on toast lol

It sounds like quite a fun time though, so I think the real "prize" is while doing the activity

    • +2

yup, idea is just to get people out and explore different areas of the city.

good to do something different once in a while.

    • you can get good coffee in city for $2.

      • +2

        where is this please…

        • The 5 discovery trails are in and around the CBD: Goods Line, Chinatown, CBD laneways, Trendy & New CBD to Barangaroo, and the Rocks. Enjoy!

          • @BryRoo: I think they were meaning the coffee lol but good to know

            • @pennypincher98: Ah - the all important coffee!
You can use the $5 towards any non-alcoholic purchase.

Spoiler alert of finishing area/venues below

Each trail ends near a different partner cafe:
              Rivareno Gelato at Barangaroo
Oliver Brown chocolate cafe at Ultimo
Four Frogs Crêperie at Cir Quay
La Renaissance Patisserie in the Rocks
              Ripples cafe at Maritime Museum

              • @BryRoo: Thanks although I did mean the $2 coffee that was in the earlier comment. But you've given me good information too.

Opp. westpac building (275 Kent s) is $2 all day. It is next to Pavel & co.

Billy Blargo on Hey You is 2.50.

        They are regular prices

        • Legend! thanks!

    • +1

The real prize is the friends you make on the way.

      • +2

my husband was about to go, then we decide to avoid too many single female "make friends".

        • +1

          We or you decide? *Kidding

  • More of a competition than a deal

You need to position this as a free city trail tour that's normally $5, plus added bonus of the competition rather than the other way around

  • +3

I'm guessing this is one of those fake "free" things where they pressure you into "donating"?

    • No tour guides to tip as its self guided ;-)
The $5 coupon pops up on your phone when you finish the 10-12 riddles of the walk. The Project is Funded by aTransport NSW initiative to bring people back to the CBD and support local businesses. Have fun trying them out!

    • I definitely agree with you.

  • Have a feeling if you actually know the answers to the riddles, you don’t have to do the walk…

    • +2

Yes! You can technically use the website and answer the riddles of the trails from anywhere - I played one of their London trails from my sofa and used google street view to help solve the riddles!

  • +3

Since when walking around the city will cost $20?

  • +1

Walks around my place are free if you buy me coffee

  • +2

Thank you! A good way to burn some calories, solve some riddles, and potentially learn about the history of the city. Like an escape room, except your room is the whole city.

  • Great way to spend a couple of hours. We did the first 2 trails, and got a hot nutella (free) and chocolate ice-cream (50c) after discounts. From Perth, just passing thru Sydney on our way around Australia, so great timing. Visited some cool places we wouldn't have known about. Would've been a great Ozbargain if it was just the free scavenger hunts around Sydney, the $5 vouchers make it even better!
