        • Inferior screen display, plastic back, no microsd slot or dual sim.

If you want the S21 series I would at least get the S21+ or wait for a sale. Samsung has been floating the market with their trade in deals.

If you get the Note 10+ you are going to be owning a phone that is almost 2 years old which means less software updates.

          • @cent88: Thanks for the reply, helpful stuff!

  • +6

Came from a Note 9 to the 10+ , hated it.

    Fingerprint sensor is slow, finicky.

Traded it in the Samsung Trade Up deal for the 21Ultra and it's way, way better.

    • +1

I'm considering replacing my Note 9 as the zoom doesn't work after it was dropped. I don't use the fingerprint sensor. Is there anything else you didn't like?

      • +2

IMO not worth the upgrade. Wait at least 2 - 3 generations to notice the difference. It'll be 10% faster than the Note 9. Unless your phone's battery is shot or you have a broken screen.

      • From the Note 9 it's a step backwards everywhere. Only place it gets better is it adds a wide angle camera but it's not very useful, not worth the upgrade anyway.

I also had the stupid fingerprint sensor activate in my pocket non stop, so all of a sudden music is paused or it's dialing emergency services. You can either have the sensor on or off, no in between. If you never EVER use it then I can recommend it at that price, but even then.. you better really want the S pen.

    • +5

Well yeah, but you are now comparing $649 to $1800 odd

For $649 this is a lot of phone for someone.

      • -3

I got the tradein deal from Samsung for an S21 Ultra 512GB in Titanium, was $884. Not much more for a MUCH better phone.

        • +1

'not much more' for you….debatable for most, I'd venture

          • -2

@andresampras: $235 difference to go from 2 generations old to current generation with upgraded everything. I think the value is there.

            • +3

@oodLes: I don't see how you landed on $235; you had to trade in a working Note 10+ AND pay $884 didn't you? Or have I misunderstood?

        • +3

          Your maths is hilarious.

          $884 PLUS a Note 10+

          i.e. in this case $649 + $884 = $1533

          $1533 does not equal $235.

  • Of course this has to come out right after I bought the S20 FE 5G deal yesterday. Would have jumped on this instead given the pricing. Anyone know the benefits of the S20 over this to help me with buyer's remorse? :D

    • +2

      5G.

    • +2

The S20FE 5G is a newer model and lighter than the Note10? :) I feel for you though.

      • Lighter by 6 grams isn't it? :D

I do like the 120Hz screen, and with a case which is coming soon, I think it will feel good in the hand. Fingerprint scanner is really good on the S20 and I've heard the ultrasonic one on the Note 10+ is finicky.

      • Lighter wallet too!

        • Yeah by $150.

    • +8

This phone has trash battery life as well due to the shit Exynos chip.

I have this phone, and it wouldn't last a day of heavy use even when the battery was new. Got like 5.5 hours screen on time and that's with battery saving max, brightness turned down to 30%

And the photos it takes are shit. The night mode is trash due to the processor being shit. It's just a blurry mess.

      • +5

Samsung really stuffed up with their Exynos chips. Even on S21 the battery life is shit compared to my old Huawei P30 which has almost 20% smaller battery. I don't understand why Samsung keeps feeding us this rubbish.

        • Because its cheaper for them to make than to buy chip from qualcomm

        • All about profits my friend. The mass public wouldn't know the different.

        • -1

Cheers for this comment. I nearly bought to upgrade from my P30. Think I'll stick to my P30 due to the battery being next level.

      • +3

Lol I love how savage your review is

        • I'm 10% making the original commenter feel better, 90% personal butthurt.

      • Thanks for this, not getting it anymore. 2 years old, shit battery and shit camera, no headphone jack. What was I thinking!!!

      • -1

Yeah it is becoming cheap for a reason.

When I saw the battery capacity I was like nope that is not gonna last.

Something has got to give if you up the specs.

        • No. This becomes cheap because its Telstra Branded. They signed way too many when the phone market is no longer the same. I expect all Telstra (or any carrier really) branded phones get 50% eventually until Telcom stop branding phones. This isn't the 2010s anymore.

          • @Xantar: Oh I see my mistake I did not know about this piece of information. Thanks for clarifying that up.

      • is this Ken Zo talking serious ? shit camera ?? really ?

      • what phone do you have now? i love samsung for their sd card slots but ye their phones have shit battery life

    • buy 5G for future proof, telcos intend to shut down 3G in 3 years time.

      • +2

By the time they shut down 4G, we would have gone through the next 2 phones after this. It is future proof until updates fade.

  • +4

One of the greatest phones ever made but how many more security updates for it I wonder

  • -8

Sold my surface headphones and dell monitor successfully, time to buy sony XM4 and Xiaomi monitor :)

    • I express my most genuine congratulations on behalf of the Ozbargain community to you for your outstanding upsell.

      What the fck.

  • Good price, but almost 2 years old though.

  • +1

Other than the crappy ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, this phone is solid. Got one when it was $999 and even at that price it's a good phone.

    • +1

FP sensor is flawless, it's just that the way Samsung tells you the scan the finger isn't the optimal way.

I followed this video back when I got the phone and I've never had a single issue with getting it to read my finger

      https://youtu.be/LnlSPwXlaXI

You can also increase the speed of the scanner quite noticeably altogether by disabling a setting, as per:

      https://www.reddit.com/r/galaxynote10/comments/fp764h/increa…

    • What is the camera like? Many reports of blurry /out of focus shots

  • so not just me who think the fingerprint sensor is slow ?
it was very then after latest firmware update i felt it fixed, fast. but last few days feel it get slower again

    • How can you use the fingerprint scanner with screen protector?

      • You can remove the screen protector if you wish…

        .

        • +1

That's too crazy for me :'(

      • how to use with scprotect?? just normal i believe we can, right?
i still have the original plastic sc.protect on

or you saying it is the culprit ?

        • +1

These hydrogel screen protectors will allow the fingerprint sensor to still work. The glass screen protectors wont. I like the hydrogel but it isn't as strong as glass.

          • @S2: i dont know glass sc protector wont work.. hmm interesting

    • Would redoing the fingerprint setuo again help. I dont have any issues with the fingerprint sensor

      • ok will do.

      • +1

Yeah i believe it is good practice to do this regularly (not that I do). Some people do it after a software upgrade

    • All reviews said it's slow.

    • Try this:

      https://www.reddit.com/r/galaxynote10/comments/fp764h/increa…

By the time I take my phone out of my pocket and into my hand it's already unlocked.

  • This or a oneplus 8 pro?

    • +1

I'd go OP8 Pro, fingerprint sensor on this is supposedly shit (like A71) + Samsung's still got a lot of bloat or other ways of doing things..

  • +1

Worth to upgrade from Note 8? Don't need the latest and greatest, but it has to be a Note.

    • For the price, yes

    • going by the above comments, not worth the upgrade from Note 8. Hold out a bit longer (a year or 2) for a newer & better phone

    • +1

I have the note8 too (refurb after breaking my old note8) battery life is great etc, IMO i'll wait a bit more for the price to go lower esp. on the note20 range

      • +1

Just picked up mine from Chatswood Chase. The lady at the counter asked the price of the phone & she told me there has been 10 people prior to me picking up the same phone , must all be OZBers ~ hello guys~~

        • +1

Hahaha I picked it up from there this morning when there was 10 left. I told them I had seen it on here, one of the guys says I wish i had known I would've gotten one for myself.

  • +1

Is it worthwhile upgrading from the Note 9? Any major differences from a user perspective?

    Edit - comments noted above

  • One of the best Samsung phone.
Using it for last 2 years… s21 has lower specs than this.

    • +2

Really? The S21 has better specs on paper e.g. CPU, camera, and screen refresh rate (120Hz) while the Note 10+ has slightly better features like SD card slot and bigger (but older type) ram.
I'm tossing up between the two because I can get the S21 for a similar price by trading in but a lot of people seem to love the Note 10+. Has anyone used both phones and care to comment?

      • +1

For normal everyday use the slight performance advantage of s21 won't be significant imo, note 10 + is smooth enough.

I personally don't care about higher refresh rate, ram wise 12gb vs 6/8gb makes little difference oo. the extract storage of note 10+ is very practical, not to mention expandable storage. Oh, s pen as well, a gimmick mostly but hey, what's wrong with the gimmick lol. In the end of the day, note is cheaper.

I do wish the note could have a bigger battery and non-curved screen.

      • As Tyler mentioned mentioned below, RAM makes lot of difference even if it's a generation older.
I personally prefer big screen hence this is best.
120hz of screen matters if you are doing some gaming or watching high FPS video.

I was also very inclined to get s21 with trade offer with one on the iphone 6 I have lying around. But finally decided it is not worth over note 10+ that I am currently using.

If you want 21 series to out perform not 10+ then go with s21 ultra which is more than double the price of 10+

      • Personally I am waiting for a phone that is maybe a little lower specced but has a huge battery capacity.

All I care about is longevity and battery life duration.

I just need it to run the day to day apps nothing major, do some email and Web browsing and if possible do 480p video that's really it.

Camera can be from five years ago for all I care.

Honestly ram to me is more important as I do a lot of multitasking so 8gb ram minimum to prevent running out.

I just want a long lasting productive multitasking capable machine that can maybe watch YouTube videos at 480p / 720p.

The Mi Max line and some other battery behemoths were the closest thing we ever got to that but screen size was pretty massive.. I don't need more than 5.5 inches for the display all the weight and space can go to the battery compartment.

But yeah can't wait for a decently priced phone that can like last a whole week or two on one charge just doing very low level stuff.

No high usage gpu cpu soc intensive stuff just the day to day average that the whole population would use.

        Yeah where is that.

        • The Mi Max line and some other battery behemoths were the closest thing we ever got to that but screen size was pretty massive.. I don't need more than 5.5 inches for the display all the weight and space can go to the battery compartment.

once you go bigger you will only want more…
mi max 3 is best battery last forever screen ratio 3:2 but yeah, camera not good at night and no nfc

          • @CyberMurning: I mean I want bigger don't get me wrong I have eight inch tablets for home viewing but my work pants would barely hold those behemoths and I will definitely feel it while I'm out on my feet working.

Lightweight or trimmed down as much as possible is ideal for a work phone plus all the weight for me needs to go into the battery.

The difference between having a brick and a light weight easy to fit in the hand workhorse is massive.

Plus the cargo pants industry needs to really step their game up and start making pocket zippers more standard.

I have lost count at the amount of time I have nearly lost my phone slip out my pocket just because of the angle I was working or sitting.

No idea why they don't make zippers on all the pockets more common.. I bet roofers and high rise window cleaners would really appreciate it.

I know I get anxiety having to check that all my pocket contents are still there every few minutes sometimes in the day especially when you are carrying the only set of keys sometimes that opens an important door at the place you work at.

Lots of gaps in this world still missing but we are working hard to fill them all.

  • I have the 512gb/5g version. Love the s pen but google map doesn't work time to time. Dunno why but read some ppl got same problems. Phone got warm when playing graphic intense games but never in uncomfortable state. Overall pretty happy but i miss 3.5mm headphones jack.

    • lol after owning / using this for almost a year only today i realised it doesnt have headp jack after reading your comments……
lucky i hate headphones with cable

      • Switching to wireless is still hard.

I do it some days but the constant need to charge them can be the straw some days that breaks the horses back.

Also I like the wired look as it sometimes works for letting people know that you don't want to have a social interaction right now.

The old ways have their uses but yeah wireless earphones and headphones at least don't get caught on every thing.

        Benefit in everything.

        • nope the current TWS is good you only need to charge like once/twice a week unless you are wearing them 24/7

    • with google maps delete cache / saved data every so often. that does the trick.

  • I just ordered Note 20 (not Ultra) from JB for $1100, it's still in transit. Wonder if I can return it unopened and get this instead? Not sure if newer model is worth $450 difference.

    • +2

if me i will try to return

    • +1

Ive returned unopened laptops before to jb. No questions asked.

    • +1

I've got the Note20 for my missus.
Comparing my Note10+ to her Note20, slightly smoother UI and better cameras.
Personally if this deal was around then I would have jumped on it, get a decent case and pocket the difference.

      • +1

Thanks, I ordered Note10+ and will be returning Note20 when it arrives later today. More RAM and better screen, and less worry about breaking it. Would consider getting an Otterbox, currently $49 from Amazon.

  • i wish the screen is 6.9" with 3:2 ratio…perfect for watching…

  • +1

Great phone. Yes, it's 2 years old but still very fast.

Like others have said, fingerprint scanner is a little hit and miss but no issues apart from that.

I have no plans to replace it any time soon.

    • Only use I have found for the fingerprint scanner on my Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 is as a camera shutter button when it is hard to reach the front touch screen buttons.

I used to use it to unlock my phone but like you said it's too hit and miss it became annoying.

  • +1

    very good phone and price.
Recommend, if you require a pencil ✏

  • I have this phone, it's excellent but I have had some blurry camera issues. Similar posts about it online.

    • +1

My note9 had the same issue before too. This is due to the defect camera parts not moving back to center when lens focusing. Warranty covered within two year, they will replace the whole camera parts. I thought only note 9 has this issue.

  • +1

    if only it had a 3.5mm jack…..

    • +1

      Cant have it all

  • Worth upgrading from S10 5G?

    • Unless you really want the pen, it's probably a downgrade

  • -1

Can anyone confirm that this is definitely dual sim?

    • +4

      Definityly Single Sim

      • +1

Lots of comments up there says it is a dual, so 100% single sim? :(

        • Yes, I bought one last black friday. Normal retailer version is dual sim but not this one.

        • +2

          Definitely single sim.

        • Telstra variant which is single sim SM-N975FZKATEL

    • This Telstra variant is single sim. SM-N975F

  • +1

Just received the s20 FE yesterday from Amazon but really wanted this (Note) phone. If wife doesn't want s20 FE, then back to Amazon it goes <- beauty of Amazon

Ended up rushing to JB this morning to buy it where the rep showed me another deal.

New Telstra customers get $1250 credit for signing up for one of the s21 phone range. Seems that the handset is basically free provided you pay for the Telstra plan at $99 x 12 months.
