Huawei IDEOS X3 with Hat & Sunnies - $79 from Vodafone

This post contains affiliate links. OzBargain might earn commissions when you click through and make purchases. Please see this page for more information.

You can now get this phone for $79 from the Vodafone online shop, save $20 from $99. Click on the 365 days section to get it without a recharge.

It is locked to vodafone, but you can get the code for free from Vodafone's website like 1-2 weeks after buying it. Alternatively, you can buy an unlock code for $10 from ebay.

Specs:
Screen: 3.2", 320x480
OS: Android v2.3 (Gingerbread)
Chipset: Qualcomm MSM7227, 600 MHz
Camera: 3.15 MP
Weight: 104grams
512 MB ROM, 256 MB RAM

Network bands: 850/2100. - Yes it's NextG Compatible. The one listed on gsmarena is 900/2100, but it has been confirmed by whirlpoolers that the vodafone Huawei X3 is 850/2100..

I've used this phone for a few minutes and was impressed by the fluidity. I attributed that to gingerbread + a little/no bloat.

Mod: removed expiry as some members are still able to get the deal as of 7/2/12

    • Oops, forgot about that. Added :)

      • Don't forget the 2 years warranty as well. lol

  • Is it just me or is Huawei getting better? I can…nevermind, I'll reserve my comment because I'll have some moron with the initials SB accuse me of lying…

  • This phone with face camera, right?

    • Yep

This is locked to Vodafone. How much is the unlock fee?

    • +1

Perhaps try reading the post before asking?

      • +1

Next question will probably be where is the post.

I'd be wary of buying from the Vodafone online store. If everything goes OK, then good on ya.

They deduct your money before they ship and even if the product may not be in stock (despite what the website might indicate). Happened to me, the website said in stock, ships in 1-2 business days. Confirmation email after paying also said the same. After 6 weeks of chasing them up and talking to their offshore call centre and going in circles, I finally did a credit card charge back.

    See:

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/58159

I don't have much confidence in them and certainly wouldn't order from them again.

    • Sucks that you got that experience from Vodafone.

I bought from them a month ago - phone came within a week, no hassles at all.

    • exact same thing happened to me! bought online, promised 2 day delivery, but nothing, nada, zip, zilch! but beware, they even gave me a false tracking number which i found out later was not for my order!
in the end, i was totally sick of speaking to a different indian call centre person every time i rang up, having to repeat the whole story & my actions again and again, and being promised the refund, but nothing, but i finally got my refund quick smart and i didn't have to do a chargeback, just called the TIO, lodged a complaint, and 10 days later someone from Vodaphone AUSTRALIA not INDIA called me and asked where to put my money! never again, next time if the phone isn't instore, i'm not buying!
ps you know, they actually did me a favour, i initially bought the INQ Cloud, but i added another $38 and got the heaps better Acer Liquid Metal!

    • Same here. After weeks of chasing my money back I had to do a charge back to get my money. Will never buy from Vodaphone again.

  • I bought mine from Aus Post late last year when they had the $99 promo. Anyhow I couldn't unlock the network for free. Says $75 unlock fee even with a $25 online discount!

The phone itself is nice with Android 2.3 however I find the speaker/sound on the U8510/X3 very very weak.

    • I unlocked u8510 for $10 bucks…thinking to retiring it though…

      • +1

Why would you retire a phone thats 6 months old?

        How bad could it be?

I'll buy it off you for $50.

      • How did you unlocking .. I had one from Crazy Jones and couldn't unlock from internet.Thanks.

        • DC Unlocker will unlock this phone.

  • If you are in Sydney, given how this summer has been, you probably don't want the hat and sunnies. you can opt for a hair straightener instead…

  • Huawei phones are ok for that Price. I have Ideos u8150 and is working fine. Any body posted ALDI's catalogue sale for Huewei X1 2.8 inch display phone for $59.99 which is locked to Optus. X1 & X3 are pretty same specs.

  • I have one of these - handy little Android phone. Like the bloke above said, the X3 is a massive step up in quality and performance from the X1 and earlier IDEOS. It uses the same hardware as the Sonic ($188) but with a smaller screen. Screen is only 3.2 inches but its surprisingly slim and well made. $79 is a bargain.
Perfectly competent so long as you don't go absolutely nuts with the apps.

Forget about Vodafone's fees and use this bloke
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-Huawei-Unlock-Code-phone-IDEO…
…for about $10 if the random Voda unlocker doesn't work. Wait a few weeks though, because the codes have been known to appear a bit later.

    NOTE*
Just promoting this bloke because I have used his codes without any issue and they are good value - might help others.

Thanks OP, I just got an X3 from VodaFail for the daughter.

Inserted CJ sim and up and running.

    • +1

Did you do in infront of her face?

      • +1

No, i didnt need to make too much of a point as i am sure she knew the CJ sim would work.
Just trying to get me to buy a Voda plan.
Voda didnt have a cheap prepaid suitable option for us, otherwise i would have used them as voda to voda are free.

        • You should try voda 365days prepaid, Voda to voda free.

  • You should try voda 365days prepaid, Voda to voda free.

You'd have to make sure you selected the back to school option though.

Thanks for posting Raven. Just ordered one. After a bad experience (phone took several weeks to ship, then 4 months for them to send an accurate monthly account) I swore I'd never deal with the online shop again, but a couple of cheap OZBARGAIN wifi modems later ……

  • Great price.I once got a huawei cellphone and it worked really good.
locked or not, it's not important.I am thinking of buying one for my friend as a
    birthday gift.
Recently huawei released the thinnest cellphone,Ascend P1 S
, in the world which reflected
its brilliant manufacture craftship.expect its new phone.

Does anyone know the EPF rating of the sunglasses?

    • Sticker on sunglasses says "UV400 ULTRAVIOLET PROTPCTION".
Obviously the spell checker wasn't around when they made the stickers (",)

      • Thanks Siadwell. I would not wear them for the UV rating then, just in case.
