  • With boost mobile, also amaysim (Optus network)

Boost Mobile upload speed is crap, less than 1mbps
While amaysim upload speed can reach 6mbps

    • -1

Those are both crap lol you must just live in an area with shitty reception

  • -1

    honestly, horrrible!!!

stick to amaysim or boost or kogan

    • +11

Stick to amaysim (Optus) or boost (Telstra) or Kogan (Vodafone) instead. Right.

    • Given that Coles Mobile services are provided by Optus (as opposed to a MVNO) there should be no noticeable difference between Optus and Amaysim.

      • nope, i even gave them a second go. Horrendous issues when porting, some numbers dont call out or in.
Talked to coles, they said nothing can be done.
So wasted $99 and ported to amayasim, no issues.

Gave them a second go, 7 months later, due to brilliant value, same issue on dads number

  • +2

Does anyone know whether purchasing prepaid starter pack towards your flybuys offer (Spend $xx get xxxx points)?

    • +2

it did for me when i bought it, it was promo too, got $10, but coles was a horrific experience for me

    • Unsure about this. When I purchased it yesterday, it was set up as a gift card in the system (so a person had to come over and push some buttons to let me pay). And with those flybuys offers, it says gift cards are excluded, so I guess I'll see in a few days whether I get the bonus flybuys points.

      • +2

Just checked my flybuys account, and can confirm I received the bonus points.

  • -3

Can anyone confirm if this Coles MVNO is on Optus or Telstra? Any 5G network access? And is there international roaming available if we head across to NZ to receive sms's etc…?

    • +15

read from the top.. slowly…. and then, read again…

      • -3

Ok it's on Optus. Any international roaming? didn't see that discussed.

    • No 5g access.

5g access on prepaid is only with Vodafone and Telstra's own networks I think.

I CAN DEFINATELY CONFIRM THAT VODAFONE PREPAID HAS 5G (aka the cheapest 5G), Use it personally

      • Ok gotcha, 5G on Voda/TPG available eh, any international roaming for these MNVO's?

      • That's good to hear. Does Vodafone have a yearly plan like this deal or something similar?

        • Better to just sign up with new $30 starter kits every time (can get those for like 5-10$ or even cheaper at times)

        • Yes Vodafone currently have a $220 SIM with 240GB Data for 12 mths @Coles.

          • @JohnnoT6: Oh nice, thanks for this. Special end today? Or on-going? How long do I have to activate?

            • @reece8: Ends 29/06 and need to activate by Aug-3 to receive bonus 90GB (total 240GB).

  • I know the TC said must activate by 30days

But has anyone successful activate more than 30days and still works?

    • +1

I waited 3+ months to activate after buying this deal last time and it worked fine.

  • How long until it can be activated? I'm on Catch until the end of September so I won't be activating anything until then. Or is it advisable to just wait until then as the deal will be back again? Thanks in advance.

    • +1

You need to activate your SIM within 30 days of purchase or by the date advertised in a promotion (whichever is earlier)

Found your answer in the T&C

      • Lol thanks I should pay more attention haha

  • I'm with Boost and call overseas quite often, I'll get random disconnections and sometimes several times in a call, it's frustrating

    • +2

      This isn't a Boost deal.

      • +1

Yeah but there's a lot of comments saying boost is better, I just thought I'd put this out there.

        • had boost last year, this year coles

coles has been much better and faster 4G

In sydney metro if that helps

    • +1

Same, and sometimes the call quality is unusable.

  • If your in Blacktown NSW this network is garbage to use in either my apartment or westpoint shopping centre.
Not sure if it's just that area as my building is next to westpoint shopping centre.

My partner got this same plan and it keeps going to voicemail when I attempt to call him. Also the internet is very slow almost unusable.

I'm on boost and get full signal in my apartment and westpoint.

Apart from that the plan is good on paper and if it works for you then that's great but just be weary that you might end up like my partner always frustrated on missing calls etc.

    • +1

Most partner tell their wife/husband same thing… "My network was poor when you called" … !!

  • any idea on the last date you have to activate/port over?

good timing. i've got my main number on Hello Mobile (Voda MVNO) for a few years now and past few months has just been rubbish. poor reception, calls constantly dropping out. but it was cheap — $10 a month with 1gb data (i rarely used 50% let alone 75%) and 10c/min calls. after 30 days, any unused data expires but i can still go on for a few days with whatever credit i had left from that initial $10. just got a bunch of nag emails/texts/automated message that my account has "expired." yesterday, i had $3.65 left and which was plenty left for a 36 minute call but no calls could be made, forcing me to add another $10.

so screw these guys, i'm porting out at the end of the 30 days.

    • You are really good at calculation…

  • This or amaysim. Which one usually brings the best deals?

    • +1

It's of course subjective on your personal needs. For me, it's unlimited international calls/SMS and bugger all data (I've used less than 10GB in 5 months). For that, Coles wins hands down.

      • Ok true. Yeah I shoulda been more specific. I use about 10gb a month so I'm thinking Kogan and the half price amaysim deals when they're on might be a better fit for me. :)

  • Anyone know if Coles allows you to have voicemail come through as an audio file?
Optus has it, but some other Optus resellers don't have it (like Catch).

    • I called them. They do not offer it.

  • Does this support VoLTE and WiFi Calling?

    • Until recently it was no for both. Interested to see if anyone has first hand current experience.

    • Interested to know, too. Optus does support Wifi Calling, but not sure if this is available through Coles.

Edit: If I'm reading correctly, some people in this deal saying that it is.

      • +1

Optus does not support VoLTE or Wifi Calling for their Prepaid customers, including all MNVO prepaid customers like Coles. Check the answer to "Is WiFi calling available on my Optus Prepaid service?" on that page you linked to.

  • Amaysim to Coles Mobile porting will work.. right?

  • Can you do the optus sports add on with this ?

    • You don't need to be an Optus mobile/fixed line customer to use Optus Sport, you can have it as a stand alone subscription. If you are asking if Optus Sport is included for free, the answer is no.

  • Anyone know why MMS doesn't work on Coles mobile? Or am I missing something

    • I've had no issues sending MMS messages.

  • My Coles/Optus is mostly on 3G network.

  • Why is it I've had no significant issues wherever i've gone in Aust CBDs using optus?? Only place I found Telstra significantly better is southern Tassie…

  • When does this deal expire?

    • 1 week

  • Two questions:
    1. How much is subsequent recharge?
(Aldi $99 plan gets $99 recharge)
    2. Does it include unlimited local call forwarding?
(Aldi $99 plan excludes call forwarding)

    • Call forwarding is 32¢/minute, and requires extra credit to use. Recharges are at the listed price ($120/12 months).

  • Catch Connect has a similar deal, but with 120GB data, $120. Also with Oputs.

    • But without international calls.. :(

      • aa yep!
I basically don't use that, so did not consider that :D

  • gonna grab 2 next week..so tired of jumping for main number and junk number.

  • I activated an old Boost Mobile $150 12 months voucher and it only provided 20GB and not 80GB for 12 months

    • Yes, that's the problem with old vouchers…. You gotta be quick to get the bonus data to be activated.

    • My $150/80GB boost plan is about to expire (my first year), if I purchase a recharge $150 voucher, will I get my previous plan or just 20GB?

      • I recharged my for another SIM and got 80GB last month

  • How long can I wait to activate the voucher?

  • +1

by the date advertised in a promotion (whichever is earlier)
Does this means either within 30 days or next Tuesday when this deal ends? so no go for people who are due after 30 days?

  • Aldi no longer doing $99 Telstra deal?

  • +1

Do you just buy this at the cashier?

    • Can also at self checkout.

      • thanks for replying! will head in then.

  • is this the best mobile deal nowadays, esp after boost is no longer offering $150/80 GB?
    Any other (and better) alternatives?

    • +1

I will be leaving boost with this offer so does many others because boost had last big sale few years ago around June when many signed up to boost… !

Only other better deal without international calls is Woolworths mobile as they provide 10% discount once a month on grocery.. !

    • I just transferred 2 of my family members to Woolworths mobile. It's on the Telstra wholesale network although they can't tell the difference. $150 yearly plan with 100GB data, but one of my family members uses less than 30GB/year so I transferred (for now) 40GB across to the other. So far so happy. It's an option + 10% off 1 Woolies shop a month for each account.

  • Can this be purchased using the coles egift cards?

    • +1

      Yes.

  • +1

gonna grab 1 next week on monday-tuesday…

  • I got lucky with CBA cashback for coles. $10 back for $100 spent. Putting it out there if you are eligible.. but the cashback ends today though….
    Run forrest run!

    Deal

  • even if not on sales $120 for 60GB is ok deals…i'm kind of tired jump around and needed 1 around august.

  • Looks like deal extended for one more week ?

  • damn awful..trying to activate sims and keep saying OTP doesn't match with mobile, now have to wait for 24 hours…call them up and they said can't do anything about it.

  • Can I use Coles Gift Cards to purchase this sim?

    • yes, you can, if you have spend **** get 2000/4000 flybuys, you can get points too.

I have a spend 100 get 4000 points makes the deal to $79.

  • Does anyone know the cost of data if you want to top up some extra? Does it have monthly expiry?

    • +1

      @virhlpool: Sigh!
