I feel RTX 3060 is really poor value, compared to something like RX 6700 XT which you can get for a very similar price.

    • +4

This ^, just get a 6700 XT for the same price and with a much better performance.

    • +3

Yeah even by current standards, at $1k the 3060 is awful value.

      • The prices for the new Nvidia cards are ridiculous. Wasn't this supposed to be the price point of the GTX3080?

        • 1139 is what I paid for mine but, most mid-range 3080s are closer to 1200-1500 RRP with exception of EVGA, Zotac and Founders Edition which were closer to 1139 (RRP for Founders)

  • Aha, gpu price has been dropping

    • +4

good news for the gamers. I dream of one day owning an RTX 3080.

    • Is it? This is $30 more than RTX 3070 Gaming X I purchased in January. Not really up to date with pricing.

      • +1

It seems like they are slowly becoming more available and slowly the prices are slipping… slowly.

        • +1

Agreed. I have a feeling prices on some variants will continue to slowly drop over the next two months.

        • I don't know, depends on the card I guess, because even the 1660 Ti and Super variants are about $650 now. Which is pretty crazy still.

          • @cnut: Might take longer for the low tier cards for come down since I expect a lot of people are still trying to fill their PC with a temporary card.

      • +5

RTX 3070 prices on eBay hit $2000 just last month. The fact that you can get a brand new from a retailer at this price is a good sign.

      • +1

Jan was a while ago in terms of GPU availability, you see these 2nd hand for more.

    • +1

Partly due to the Bitcoin crash but also people deciding not to upgrade and those (who had the money to) having their orders fulfilled. Although some reckon prices will only return to normal when the Rtx 4000 series launches in Q4 2022

  • +2

ROG Strix 1080 still going strong. Definitely no need to "upgrade" at this price.

  • +4

This is just shy of what the RRP of the FE 3080 was meant to be. W. T. F.

    • +3

People keep buying them…supply and demand.

  • +1

As long as you don’t remember that the RTX 3060 “launched” at $500 to $550 … 3 months ago (sic)

It’s looking kind of funny that laptop GPUs are more powerful than their equivalent priced desktop counterparts,

and people are queuing up for prebuilt Alienware PCs as they are cheaper to buy than just the GPU alone, or buying from grey market importers.

I still remember Jensen Huang pulling the 3080 Ti out of the oven a year ago… https://youtu.be/So7TNRhIYJ8

I still regret to this day not picking up the 3070 when i had the chance for $800 last year.

    • Same. Was going to upgrade last gen when they discounted them, but my i7-4790 could only handle up to a 2060, so decided to build a whole new system… in March 2021. I'm an idiot.

    • +1

How about this deal here, people were laughing when some people were buying 2080 Ti when the 3080 launch was imminent.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/564607

People were talking about used 2080 Ti selling for $750 on Gumtree. Good times!

  • Look it may be way more expensive than RRP. But they're now selling for closer to $1200-1300 and selling fast. Prices aren't looking to drop soon.

I picked one up. I'll be using it in my gaming rig and doing a bit of mining during my downtime to help pay for it. Scheme of things I'll get all the benefits of an RTX card (beyond gaming - i.e. RTX Voice and AI video), a very decent card, and I will have it now.
