Wow nice find Op! Hasn't been that cheap in a while.
Good watch for skinny wristers. Don't forget cashrewards.

    The Urban Gentry Review

  • Was about to post this deal. The green version is also available for $109.

    • Oh do you have a link for that?

    • I really like the green, damn my thick wrists :(

      • +1

lol you wouldn't complain if you had my girl wrists… actually i think my 12 year old daughters are thicker.. LOLL but i have 2 of these in different styles and they are great definitely recommend them.

  • Thanks OP! Bought one :) My first automatic watch :)

Caution. These Seiko 5s are a gateway drug.

      • This!

  • Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe this non hackable and not hand windable.

    • You're correct.

    • Correct the 7526 auto movement doesn’t feature hand winding or hacking

    • Can I ask what 'hacking' means in the context of a watch?

      • +1

The second-hand stops when the crown is out allowing the watch to be set accurately.
There are also hacks with the 7S26 to stop the second hand.

        • Which imo opinion is pretty much useless on an automatic watch, because even a good auto is off by 2-3 seconds everyday.

          • @beet: Agreed.

Though, it allows you to better assess the movement's accuracy.

    • +1

Yeah, when I used to daily-wear this, I'd take it off after work, and by the next morning it would have stopped. To be fair, I'm talking about a pretty sedentary office job.

To be even fairer still, getting an automatic watch with a display caseback for $99 is completely bonkers, and a dangerous entry drug.

      • sorry can you elaborate? What happens after a day? Does that mean you have to correct the time often?

        • +1

There's a rotor that spins when you move and charges a spring. Some users have noticed that in a sedentary office job, the spring doesn't get enough charge to make it through the night meaning that you'd have to give it a bit of a shake and set the time again in the morning.

      • Yeah, that's one of the key reasons I stopped wearing mine. I even made it pretty with a custom Seigaiha dial.

    • Yes I’m waiting for my bottle cap to arrive from star buy deal, it is windable and hackable!

    Normally retail at $112

Where from? Amazon's average price since Jun 12, 2018 has been higher according to Camel.

Amazon Price History - Average $152.56
      3rd Party Price History = Average $132.10

  • Great first automatic!

I've had mine for a few years now and it seems to be running a bit fast (and there's a scratch on the hardlex crystal). I've been quoted service charges that cost almost half of a new watch, so I'm still hesitant to have it adjusted.

    • +2

Disclaimer: only proceed on this at your own risk and caution.

You can actually adjust it yourself. It's not exactly "easy" if you've never done it before, but there's plenty of resources and YT videos on how to do this. Look up how to "regulate" a watch. You'll need tools to open the watch. And most people don't have a timegrapher just laying around, so there's apps (which I have never used), or manually do it with pen and paper. Given the price of these watches, it could be a worthwhile exercise. Do your own research.

Automatic watch is dangerous. It opens you to a world of “not so bargain” watches though highly addictive.

That said Seiko is the best value there is when it comes to mechanical watches. Stay away from DW, mvmt, vincero etc those are rip off disguised as “bargain”

      this!
not so much that they're quartz, but waaaay overpriced for what they are. if people like that style, they'd do better finding very similar alternatives on ali express at a more reasonable price.

I've been wearing one daily for 9 years. Still keeps great time. Has about days reserve. Highly recommended!

I wear it in the shed, working on the car, swimming, snorkeling, etc. It's very durable.

    • Can I ask, how many times have you serviced it in the past 9 years?

      • Never. It just keeps going.

I doubt it's cost effective to service. Would be cheaper to replace.

  • -1

$99 is a very good price but i much prefer the blue one.
otherwise i'd end up buying every colour of the snk8's and i'm already in the danger to wallet zone as it is…

  • Damn it, entry level item bought.

    … Thank you.

  • +1

Water resistance is only 30 metres, just saying.

    Bought one

    • Could you wear this in the shower?

      • -1

Only if your shower is less than 30 meters deep….so yes.

        • +1

That's not what 30 meters resistance means.

      • I wouldn't recommend it

        • +1

I wear mine swimming and snorkeling. Had it 9 years no problems.

      • The combination of hot water and soap/shampoo over time can degrade the rubber gaskets that keep your watch water resistant, the safest option iis not to wear a watch in the shower.

  • Thanks OP, got one.

    Excellent daily beater watch.
