  • Mmmmm you might land in Singapore if the pilots dont know how to do a non-standard approach into KL…

    • Let's just hope they train pilots slightly better in Malaysia than in India, and check if the pilots' licences are authentic! :o

Incident: Air Asia X A333 at Coolangatta on May 4th 2010, went below radar safe altitude

Air Asia X is taking steps to improve its pilot training. I've flown AAX previously and was very pleased with the near flat business class seats and would use AAX again. Hopefully there will be no more problems with pilot training.

        • Pilots flying a regional Qantas aircraft carrying 97 passengers were warned the plane was in danger of dropping from the sky during two bungled landing attempts.

          http://news.ninemsn.com.au/national/8417234/qantas-pilots-wa…

        • I flew Airasia many times over the years and this is the only incident I heard from you. Nothing like the strings of incidents Qantas is having for years. Definitely better record than Qantas.

      • unfortunately malaysia practises an apartheid policy which favours buniputras [read malays] and so you never know how well trained these guys are when there is positive affirmative action towards the sons of the soil.

    • I believe these large planes these days are all automated. All the pilot does is sit there all day and it's on auto pilot. They're just there so the passengers can feel good.

      • Large planes are mostly automated, and can perform autopilot landings at some airports. The pilots aren't there just for show however. Consider Air France flight AF447 in June 2009. Sensor failure at night in a storm, and the computers hand over flying to pilots who don't know what's going on.

        http://avherald.com/h?article=41a81ef1/0068&opt=0

        • Yeah your right they're equivalent to a security guard, just higher class… all they do is sit there all day and when problems do occur they have no clue what to do… lol

  • does the sale work both ways? like the $99 deal??

  • when clicked check availability, there no fligts from Aus,
and nor to Aus from a few samples…….

Doesn't the OP say to book from the 15 Feb…? I assume that's when the sale starts?

  • Is this inclusive of tax? ACCC will keep a close eye on this!

    • I dont think so. I booked flights to Ho Chi Minh City from Sydney the other day and from memory the cost came up as $317 initially but ended up around $360 when tax was included. Still a great deal considering Jetstar canceled our already booked flights on the same date through them which cost us $460 at the time.

      • I believe so. The promo fares adverstised in Australia are always inclusive of taxes (since its a Australian legal requirement to do so).

When booking tickets on the AirAsia website, prices for base fares are quoted in AUD inclusive of GST, fuel surcharge and airport charges but ONLY when the flight origin is from an Australian city. Note, this does not include optional ancillaries such as meals, baggage, skybus and insurance which you select during the booking process or the credit card fee if you choose to pay with a credit card at the end of the booking process. Snoopy113 i suspect the additional charges were ancillaries or the credit card fee.

When the flight origin from the booking is from another city outside of Australia, prices are quoted in the origin country's local currency and usually excludes taxes etc as those countries have no requirements to display all inclusive pricing.

This means if you book a return trip on a single booking originating from Australia then the base prices are all inclusive. But if you choose to book these as separate flight segments on separate bookings to take advantage of the currency benefits, as many ozbargainers have pointed out, then the prices quoted will not be all-inclusive.

  • Shucks should have checked in here first before booking my flights to KL in May! Just paid about $370 return for Melb-KL, but seems like this upcoming deal might be worth the two days wait!

    • you didn't miss out

      Book from 15 Feb - 19 Feb 2012 | Travel from 11 Sep 2012 - 31 Jan 2013

  • There was a money saving tip last time to book you trip as two one way tickets rather than return.
The Australia KL leg is the same price, but the leg from KL back to Australia is cheaper.

i book a cheaper ticket than the "big sales" claim!! What a bastard!

    • Was it during that period though?

      • no! i was curious and browsed through AA website like 2 hours ago. Got myself perth to kl $170 and kl to perth $120! So how's that sale so much different? Also, i can guarantee you the website will jam after 12am…probably only 10% ppl in the world can get the fare! it always crashed! so i don't believe in these promo anymore.

        • +4

Don't forget that for east coast, those fares are actually alot cheaper. I'm sure Perth is always going to be cheaper considering the distance.

        • +3

10% of people in the world is a lot of people…

        • 700 Million people can get the fare! Go airasia!

  • Does anyone know what time the sale starts. Is it going to be 2pm AEDT like last time?

    • Yer be nice to know when it starts

      • 3am AEDST

        • Yep, can see it now on their website.
Better be worth it waking up at that unseemly hour!

  • so how much is it to return? There was a deal before $296 return from Melbourne would it be cheaper then that?

  • Question for someone that knows

If I want to go to Hong Kong and Bangkok using this deal do I need to travel like this -

    Gold Coast - KL - Hong Kong - KL - Bangkok - KL - Gold Coast ?

or would it be like this -

Gold Coast - KL - Hong Kong - Bangkok - KL - Gold Coast ?

Hope someone can help me out

    Ta

    • Anyone know?

      • I do not believe that AirAsia flies from HK to Bangkok directly but there are plenty of LCCs who do. Book that leg with someone else (Cebu Pacific Air, Tiger, Firefly…)

      • Gold Coast - KL - Hong Kong - KL - Bangkok - KL - Gold Coast

        • Thanks

        • +1

They do fly Bangkok to Hong Kong direct, twice a day actually.

    • They do fly from HK to Bangkok
      Check the routes at http://www.airasia.com/au/en/flightinfo/routemap.page?
You could also do HK to Macau to Bangkok

  • AirAsia haven't yet released any seats for booking from 28 Oct 2012 onwards.

Hopefully they'll release these seats during the sale tomorrow considering the travel period is from 11 Sep 2012 to 31 Jan 2013.

Here are the Adioso links for easy deal-finding. The AirAsia fares should be showing up under these URLs by the time the sale commences.

For other destinations, simply enter any SE Asian city in the "To" field on Adioso.

To see the list of available options, see:

You can narrow the dates once you get to Adioso's search results page.

You can be alerted by email whenever fares drop to within your budget by completing the "Find out when prices drop" form at the bottom of each results page on Adioso.

    Happy travels!

    Tom & Fenn at Adioso

FYI, AirAsia's website is currently behaving very weirdly, apparently as they prepare their systems for this sale. This means anyone trying to book flights on AirAsia's site right now will have great difficulty doing so. It also means there are currently no AirAsia fares in Adioso. We're currently working a fix that will get fares back into Adioso, and allow anyone who finds flights on Adioso to book them without any hassles.

      what you mean?

LOL I love how many people negged CSG001 for making a comment about indian pilots. I'm guessing you were all Indian's and took offense? Harden up!

    • from what i can see there are only 2…

      • There were heaps, people obviously gave him + to balance it out!

  • So what are the best months to visit KL/Singapore ?

    • Any time outside GP season (unless you like GP). ;)

  • +1

    link to special details
    http://www.airasia.com/my/en/promotion/rr0280901.page

KL- perth is RM 199 or AU$61
    KL - syd/melb/GC is rm249 or AU$76

  • Looks like it's pretty busy already, even though the sale hasn't started yet…

You have arrived at our waiting room
Don’t worry, you’re already in queue to grab our great travel fares!
There are currently 1531 guests ahead of you.
Please be patient and we will attend to you shortly.

  • Does anyone know if you have to pay for the fare now, or do you play closer to the travel date and just pay a booking fee now?

    • You have to pay for everything now

      • That is a long way out to pay for a holiday. A lot of time as an unsecured creditor too.

        • Yet amazingly, many thousands of people are happy to take their chances!

FWIW AirAsia is one of the most financially sound airlines in the world.

  • is anyone staying up to try and get the tickets?
Stupid waiting room and the bees again.

    • I got past the bees… but now i'm being put in the queue (ie i'm not in the queue yet! lol). Been here for 15 mins, not sure how long i'll last!

  • cheapest i was able to find was $229 Want to travel mid September, mid october the latest. pref a over night flight.

Had the bee's, waiting room then flight select page then waiting room then select page again.. giving up and bed now…

  • Got through after pounding the site for 1 hr with my MacBook Air, iPad, iPhone and Xoom simultaneously!

    • Well, next time just knock politely :)

  • Seems to be cheaper than the previous Sydney launch sale. $373 return to Vietnam in Oct.

  • thanks guys! in and out within 15mins just then

  • Wondering how would I book a flight to Osaka from Sydney? Doesn’t seem to show the option (only Kingsford).

    • kingsford =sydney airport?

      • Yes, there is only one international airport in Sydney. Most probably in the foreseeable future.

  • Just curious - did somebody manage to get some of the cheapest tickets? Like MEL-KL for $149, MEL-BKK $189?

  • mines mel-bbk 189
    bbk - mel 157

    • luggaged
    • Nice ! :)

Just to be picky - Bangkok is abbreviated as BKK, I suppose you were thinking about another 4 letter abbreviation that starts with BB.. - one of the best things in BKK ;)

      Enjoy mate.

      • BB..Q??

        • nope

      • Lol cheaty is cheeky! ;)

        • yep, you win

  • How can I book several flights in one transaction? Eg, Syd to Bali, Bali to Kuala Lumpur, Kuala Lumpur to Phuket, Phuket to Syd? Thanks

    • Unfortunately, there are only certain combinations that you can book.
Should be able to do it in 3 bookings such as -

      Syd-Bali (actually two flights)
Bali-Phuket (two flights, assuming no stopover in KL)
      Phuket-Syd (two flights)

If you want a stop over in KL you will need to break one of the above up into two seperate bookings, therefore 4 bookings in total :(

I hope you like hanging around airports with those flights though mate :)

  • OMG took me hours! the trick is only to have 1 window open…I had several windows open to book diff legs and once I got to the info page, I got kicked off! But website is working fine now.

Have booked GC to Incheon for $400 approx each return!! in late Sept! only going for 1 week though. Good connections. Stupid westpac asked me for my password so I ended up paying by paypal. You have to change the currency first to AUD.

$400 to Korea p.p. I have never ever seen it this cheap even on Air Asia! very happy.

    • Hey, I cannot find ANY flights between MEL - Incheon or Gold Coast - Incheon.

Can you tell me exactly the airports and dates you selected and there seems to be no flights at all!

  • +1

Did my Flights and did all the stuff, food, seats etc and after it was finished, paid etc noticed my seats where not on there. WTF!!

    • This happened to me in the previous sale. It didn't charge me for "pick your seat" either. You can add your seat later and just pay the difference - just use the 'manage my booking' menu to add it.

  • FIXED thanks mate!

  • i did it separately. gc to kl 27/9 kl to incheon 28/9 incheon to kl to gc 4/10…. 6 hrs stop in kl. there were loads of fares to incheon but gc to kl sold out quickly.

  • .

    • AirAsia did not go into adminstration, it's locally based Air Australia. Surprisingly they were just launched November last year.
