      Possibly? UK is Region 2 and we’re 4. Can’t see anywhere on the page that gives region info for this particular boxset. Multi-region DVD player would make this irrelevant.

      Could be region-free DVD, but again, can’t see anything that indicates that.

          I'm pretty sure region 2 and 4 are inter-compatible and we're both PAL countries. Bought planet earth BBC version ages ago and it was region 2.

            @fuzor: Oz and UK are both Region B for Blu-ray so compatibility is not an issue, but Region 4 and Region 2 for DVD are definitely not compatible (unless a multi-region player is used).

        Wasn't it meant to be a thing in Australia that all DVD players could be made region free via a setup code? Every one I've ever had, aside from consoles or PC drives was able to be made region free for DVD.

        Blu Ray not so much unfortunately. I have an ancient Toshiba that can switch between A and B but I don't think there's a whole lot that will do it.

If we're talking about BJ, then, he too, had COVID-19, although there was a satirical piece written citing 2 "doctors", Shirley Knott and Ashley Pullen (your leg) which made the claim that his illness was contrived.

          You mean the universe where our Feds can come out with a “protocol” for reporting sexual harassment,by politicians, but won’t investigate “historic cases”. Sounds like there were just too many off them that were going to be uncovered. I”ve given up on any sort of justice.

      I haven't bought a new player in years, but the last few I did came with a card in the manual that included the right code to use to unlock the DVD regions. If you don't have the manual or code card… you might just have to try a few of those codes and see what works.

    Already have this box set. Some of the episodes are VERY politically incorrect these days ( ie Blackface minstrels ), but so many childhood memories with the Giant Kitten and Pirate Radio etc etc

    The episode "Kung Fu Kapers" (aka "Ecky Thump") is infamous for the documented example of a man laughing to death. Fifty-year-old Alex Mitchell could not stop laughing for a continuous 25-minute period—almost the entire length of the show—and suffered a fatal heart attack as a result of the strain placed on his heart. Alex's widow later sent the Goodies a letter thanking them for making his final moments so pleasant.

    My childhood: Goodies, Monkey Magic, Astro Boy and Danger Mouse after school on ABC. Funny thing is, they were bigger here in Australia and New Zealand than back home, because BBC never ran reruns. Criminal! Also, not likely to make it to a streaming service in this politically correct environment.

      Throw in Tom Baker's Dr Who and you've got my childhood too. Turning on Channel 2 after school and leaving it on until 6:30.

      Monkey was politically incorrect too but is on Australian Netflix although many people don't even know. I haven't checked yet but I'm pretty sure they've censored monkey yelling "p**fter" and "sissy" and possibly edited pigsy groping women.. but then again, maybe not.

        Yes, Tom Baker's Dr Who as well. I found it scary as a young kid. Think that was on a bit later, and possibly only one night a week, not sure. Doing homework lying on the carpet in the living room watching Channel 2.

          I remember Dr Who being on twice a day. They repeated the episode morning and afternoon. It's crazy how all these shows were bigger here than anywhere else in the world.

          I have an old japanese magazine somewhere with interviews from the Japanese creators and producers of Monkey and a lot of it is them talking about it's massive popularity in Australia. It was made to educate Japanese children about Buddhism without forcing down their throats but became a phenomenon here instead. I also learned that besides Mongolia and China that they also filmed on location in South Australia which is interesting but you won't find on wikipedia…

        I checked the money stuff last week and the naughty words are still there. I'm guessing the show isnt mainstream cool enough for the twitter people to know about it and complain to have it censored. But I fully expect it to happen at some stage. Good thing we have our bluray version.

      ditto, though you also had G-Force/Battle of the Planets on before those IIRC - that set of shows got all of us kids on the RAAF base to pedal home as fast as possible, ditch the bike on the lawn and run in front of the box. (I'm finding all those shows for my own kid when he's old enough, so glad Rob and Deane from curiosity show have started posting all their stuff on youtube)

      (we used to sit down by the runway watching jets come in/out most arvos till security would send us away, never ever saw a red carpet though…)

          Williamtown near Newcastle, we were there for the conversion from Mirage to Hornet. It was great - safe streets and little kids were allowed to roam free building treehouses or BMX tracks and quite-likely-dangerous dirt jumps in unofficial locations.

        Battle of the Planets was the best. The original is a very different show though, what we got was a weird mash of edits and the R2D2 looking guy trying to make it all hang together.

          Yep, heard that the original anime it was based on was definitely for mature viewers and Battle of the Planets was a heavily censored version where uncomfortable elements were removed. I enjoyed watching it very much as a kid and always waited when they would go "fiery phoenix" on some powerful villian to beat them. Still, my all time favourite anime on Australian TV was Robotech by far - it was awesome. Every Saturday I would get up early to watch cartoons and the two shows I would look forward to most was Robotech and the Count of Monte Cristo(which had a killer opening sequence).

    Great find - did not hesistate to pull the trigger. I use to watch Hogan's Heroes, the Goodies followed by Dr. Who straight after school in the eighties - the Goodies comedy skits were brilliant and so ahead of their time. Thanks.

      I remember around that era they would still play black and white movies on TV. I think Saturday, early evening? They would alternate weekly between a really old movie and a "new movie".

      Reading some of the reviews, it looks like these are not remastered episodes. I had some goodies DVD from years back that were fully restored and they looked amazing. It was a best of collection.

        Apparently the BBC didn't really look after there master tapes or lost a lot of them or something. I heard a story they only had a black and white copy of an episode until someone sent them a VHS they had recorded off the air in color.
