    Not hot swap?

Nevermind just saw it in the description. Can't read

  • -1

No discount on the version with the palm rest?

    • +2

      Ummm yeah there is

      • Apologies, my bad.

  • +3

My current keyboard (brown switches) - absolutely love it

    • +2

Huh, such different opinions. I got the low profile K1, got the brown too because it’s ‘tactile’ not sure if tactile means the same thing as it use to. It’s super mushy, no mechanical feedback whatsoever. (I did experience a real typewriter tho, maybe my standards are different?)

You can also look at rtings force measurements, there is no force peak and feedback on most switches.

Anyway, in the end of the day it’s all preferences. If you like it that’s great. My comment is more a caution to the new comers to the mechanical keyboards.

But other than that keyboard feels quality.

      • +6

If you like typewriters you should try blue switches

        • +1

Thanks for the suggestion mate! The mechanical keyboard world is (weirdly) huge…

I did experiment with one blues, I think it was gateron too but they ‘sound’ clicky and that’s it. There is not tactile feedback, just the sound. Maybe I haven’t tried the right stuff?

I genuinely think mx keys I have are more tactile than this keyboard and graphs do actually support that. (So is apples keyboards.) so weirdly scissors ‘membrane’ keyboards actually are more tactile than ‘tactile mechanical’ keyboards haha

          • +2

@Larsson: If you want physical feedback look into switches like Zealios or Boba U4Ts. Even something like Durock T1s make browns feel like linears.

        • I think even Cherry greens would have too little actuation force compared to a typewriter.

          • @songyi: Yeah no actuation force absolutely will be so much smaller and I actually don’t mind that. Even gateron brown which is 65gr is good for me. It’s just that tactile, almost key presses you back feeling haha.

Any comment on hot swap and using Kailh Box Jade/ Navy?

      • +5

Cherry MX Brown switches are known to be not that much tactile (and clones of them as well), to the point where some people say MX browns are more like scratchy linears. I am guessing whatever low profile switch they were using, were like that?

That said, I checked rtings site, I think the graph you were looking at might have been for the red switches (which are meant to be linear) since that's what is on the review page.

Regardless, If you like something that's tactile, you probably could try something like Ducky keyboard with Kailh Box Jade (which is clicky switch so with noises).

There are other switches that people have been mentioning like Gazzew U4T, Holy Panda, which are "tactile" switches. There are of course, more switches than just that, but I am not really into tactile switches tbh. Anyways, most options I have heard about weren't available on a keyboard. You'd probably need to get the switches and then put them on yourself.

That said, I have a strong doubt that they would feel like a typewriter though.

        • Legend! Thanks mate! I did hear about the Zelious’, from Linus’ blind test video actually. But can I find a low profile keyboard with that do you think? (Or with any of the other ones you mentioned like holy pandas etc?)

Edit: the graph I looked at was K3 because they didn’t test K1 with gateron brown low profiles. You can see there is almost no force peak and release, which is what tactile is if I am not mistaken?

@Larsson: Yeah, that looks like that one has a Gatreon LP brown switch.

I don't know much about low profile switches, to be honest. I have a Outemu low profile blue which uses snap spring (which I do enjoy), but as I said, tactile keyboards aren't exactly my thing.
Here is a reviewer who talks about it though, hopefully his video is of use. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vI0HB3xivfM.

Outside of that, maybe something with Kailh Choc switches with click bar mechanisms (so clicky ones), since that's where the click bar mechanism came from.
            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zg6yY0o6zoc

Both of them are clicky switches (regardless of how you press the keyboard, there will be a clicky noise due to how they operate).

            • @iridiumstem: Mate you are too nice! Much appreciate all the help.

Just looking at all the switch graphs on the ratings, funny enough only scissors and rubber dome switches have that tactile type of feed back(increasing force to a bump and quickly dropping and bottoming out, e.g. MX keys) and non of ‘mechanical’ ‘tactile’ ones. I feel like the names are super misleading. ( source: https://www.rtings.com/keyboard/learn/mechanical-switches and since I personally 2 of these previous mentioned)

Anyways, another useless hobby I can sink in hours watching reviews and buying unnecessary stuff hahahahahh!

                @Larsson: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H66XwhzhdnA

I think this video on what the term "mechanical" means is a very interesting video. Basically he goes through all the definitions of "mechanical keyboards" and talk about ups and downs of the said definitions. He kinda ends the video with, who cares what it is called, as long as it feels nice, that is what we care about.

It was other videos, but the gist I got from his videos is that Cherry MX switch design (at least how Cherry developed them) is not that great for tactility, since it basically uses a small notch on the legs to create a tactile event. Other switches tries to combat this with different shaped notches, so on and so forth. Regardless, Cherry MX Brown is considered to be very weakly tactile and MX Brown and its clones are probably one of the most common switches available on commercially available boards.

I do like his other videos. He shows various different keyboards beyond what is used today, all the interesting bits and pieces about the technology used and goes through how they worked.

brown switches are infamous for having very, very small tactile feedback

    • Using this one with Blues on my iPad, works an absolute treat.

  • +1

    what about a discount on the k8? it's hot-swappable

    • +1

It's just 10% off whatever the eBay listing price is - Go have a look yourself

  • I am currently using the keyboard with brown switches. It is very nice and connects easily. I like that there are arrow keys, which you don't get with a regular 60% keyboard. The only problem is that I often accidentally press the backlight button by mistake and have to cycle all the way through (18 presses) to get back to my preferred setting.

    • +3

Press fn1+L+Light effect key for 4 seconds to lock the light effect.

      • One drawback to that is there's no way to lock backlight off

If you set the backlight to off, then attempt to lock it, it turns back on then locks. In the end I just gave up and left it at its absolute lowest setting, it sucks that I have to charge it way more often than if I had no backlight on at all, but at least I'm not accidentally puking rgb all over my keyboard whenever I bump the backlight button now.

        • Well for me, if i hit fn1+Light effect key it switches the backlit off, and will only come back with the same key combo, which is how i keep the back lit off.

      • Hey, thanks for that! You're my hero.

  • does it come with 2.4 usb? be good for console if so

    • Has Bluetooth, so it can connect with most consoles from this or last generation.

      • beware, in my experience Playstation only allows bluetooth keyboards to be connected if it has the Pause/Break button which I don't think this keyboard has…

  • +1

Love my k6 - great deal

  • so what colour switches would anyone recommend for gaming I don't want that loud clicking through the Mic though.

    Thanks

    • +6

      Kailh box jades.

      • So none that come with this keyboard then?

        • I was kidding, you definitely don't want box jades. Browns or reds are your best bet if you don't want noise. Seems most gamers prefer red though.

    • Not sure about this keyboard specifically but got myself Gateron Yellow switches and they are soooooo nice.

Had Cherry MX blues and reds (polar opposites) and don't like either. Yellow is a linear switch (similar to red) but has stronger feedback (more actuation) whilst being much quieter than blues (tactile).

      ^^
Link if you want more information.

    • If they do them Cherry Pinks are the most quiet. I use them in the office and no complaints.

      • Keychron don't offer silent switches.

    • If you go to the keychron website they have sound tests for all the switches they offer with their keyboards. TBH, none of them are super quiet, but dependent on the person's preference and tolerances.

Got the K6 hot-swappable one with brown switches. Pretty nice package. Will add dampening foam and lube the switches and change the keycaps to PBT

  • Am waiting for K7. Any low profile recommendations?

  • +5

GR8 kbrd. I m tping on on nw.

  • Am waiting on the K4.

  • got one last week with the optical browns and its quite nice
would be interesting to try different switches the brown opticals are slightly lighter than i would like (pref razer greens slightly)

  • I have the K4 and recently switched out the stock keycaps for NP profile ones. My spacebar is squeaky when pressed on the right side but not the left, is that a lube issue?

  • I feel the K4 is much better but then again I use the numpad. So if you do not use keypad this is a good buy. Definitely good quality.

  • Can vouch for this Ebay Store and keychron K6, i have one with aluminium frame, brown swtich, hot swap, after some mod it is excellent MKB for its price, especially for wireless and Mac user.

  • +1

Any possible to have discount on K2?

  • I have this and I dont love it. I really love the way if your battery goes flat you cant use the cable setting until you get some battery back. Died a few times in key moments in games. Lack of software to change the keys sucks too.

    • I do agree with the first point, have had that happen to me I just make sur the plug it in the moment the red LED starts flashing. While yes it would be good to have software but I've used AHK to run macros and it's been great.

      • I was hoping for something that changes it on the keyboard. I use it between multiple computers so having some somewhere on each computer isnt ideal.

  • +1

Have this in Gateron brown (aluminium RGB hot swap) and I really dislike it. Firstly, the keyboard is way too high (you absolutely need a wrist rest) and don’t like the way the keys slope up unevenly. I also have a G915 and MX Keys (home and office respectively) and although they are more expensive I much prefer those.

  • +2

Bought for $86.43 using Suncorp 3% eBay gift card :D

Now I want to get these for it: https://www.pcgamingrace.com/products/glorious-pbt-black-key…

  • I recommend K8, and I reckon it is the best Keychron keyboard to choose.

    • +1

I also have the K8, I absolutely love it and take care of it.

  • Is K1 the only low profile board they make?

    • +1

      Upcoming K7 as well.

    • +1

      K3 is low profile.

  • +2

heads up - don't expect your keys to last long - they'll fade within a couple of months so I recommend you grab some extra keys

    • perfect for me, no need to buy blank caps then!

  • I have this, purchased in march for $69 from mwave. Absolutely love it.

  • I have the K8 and love it.
I'm just annoyed cause I purposefully bought the hot-swappable version, but accidentally bought the OPTICAL version. You can only use Keychrons own optical switches, which they don't seem to make anymore.

Also, the seller showed the photos of the aluminum frame version but it wasn't that version, but oh well.

  • Okay for the price. Gat switch is smoother than the Cherry Switch but wobble will be an issue. But at this price point, you cant ask too much. If you want to learn about modification on mech key, this can be your choice of starting. There are other Chinese cheap mech keyboards with better build than this. Well consideration is Keycool but hard to buy in Australia.

    • I really don't the the average user (coming from free dell membrane boards) looking at this is really going to care about keywobble.

It's just not that big of a deal and will be "less" wobbly than any non mech board they have.

  • +2

Just a heads up, the Royal Kludge keyboards are also on sale at the moment.

    Here's the Switch&Click comparisson against Keychron K2
