What you're describing isn't strictly dropshipping. That's where the seller doesn't hold the stock themselves and have the supplier send directly to buyers.

The problem with limited quantities is where do you draw the line on sale items? I.e. how do they determine quantity and which items. From the seller's p.o.v. they want to get rid of stock and/or generate traffic from loss leaders, both of which are achieved from sales. Unless there was a benefit to them to have as many unique buyers as possible, incentives are low for that to happen.

If you need a phone, they go on sale all the time. Just have to keep looking and waiting for one that suits you. Lots of phones come up on here sub $174.

      • My expertise doesn't lay in marketing so I'll take your comments as read. I understand the interpretation of dropshipping, I was simply using the term to illustrate my point. If individuals were limited to a reasonable purchase qty, others would get the opportunity to share in these bargains, that (I believe) is the basis of the OB culture, not to assist profiteers (ie Broden) in being the main beneficiaries….

        • Definitely a valid point. Unfortunately, it happens all the time and it's very difficult to enforce online as there's always workarounds. I'm sure you've read on here about people with tens of accounts, credit/debit cards, phone numbers all lined up to claim offers as many times as possible.

What also exacerbates the issue you're describing is the buy now, regret later, and the buy even if you don't need it mentality. With easy returns, it takes products out of a pool from those who might have a genuine need for it at that particular point in time. Even if the products get retuned, more likely than not it will be outside of the promotional period.

Just keep your eye on the site. Honestly, good/great deals come up all the time and they're not always as limited in quantity as this one.

  • Oh well, called the one store in Victoria a call with stock and they had people lining up outside the door at 9am to grab them all apparently. Dad can continue waiting for this sort of bargain to come around again I guess!

I was the first in line at Thomastown.
    I needed 4 oppos's
They only had 6 in stock.
I only took one….. One of the workers took one and the girl put one on hold for someone that called.
The sale should only go to people that turn up!

    • Needed 4 or wanted 4?

      • -1

        Needed 4.
I decided to keep the one I got for myself because my oppo screen is cracked

        • Really?

          Needed 4?

          Is that you broden?

    • Selling on FB market place?

    • Yes 3 friends of mine have stuffed phones. I told them the oppo a91 is a great phone.

  • Is this dual Sim

  • OPPO website shows 4GB And 8GB RAM versions, wonder if JB sold the 4GB versions

    https://www.oppo.com/au/smartphone-a91/specs/

    • Got the last one at Mt Gravatt Qld it is 8gb ram and 128gb storage dual Sim. Not bad for 174.

      • Does your phone have NFC?

  • Just called and spoke to a store manager in SA.

The phone is apparently out of stock nation-wide now and they won't be getting any further sock of the phone coming in during the sale period anywhere in the country. As such they've taken down the sale/item listing on their website (which they have - it's a 404 page now) and put up an apology notice about it in-sore.

The lady said they had to turn away a line of over 40 people trying to buy the phone in person this morning when they opened their store.

Only very few places in stock, it was a bit of a joke really.

      • They were available for delivery for about an hour or so yesterday afternoon. Pulled down whilst I was researching…

        • Same. Doh

    • I bought one 2 hours ago in WA luckily it seems

  • hi I just got call from Jb hi fi they said no more stock available so either cancel or wait but no guarantee what should I do or what are my options thanks

    • bikies

    • Cancel what?

      • they no more stock available I ordered online yesterday got email that ordered received but now calling me to cancel order

        • At what time were you emailed your order confirmation?

I was about to order a wallet case so I might hold off.

          • +1

@peterpeterpumpkin: 725pm order confirmation received and order was canceled from Vic Gardens, Victoria

            • +1

@WallybR: same here I received email last night order confirmed but today got call from store that no stock available so might be I have to cancel and get refund

              • +1

@Sara Sadiq: I received text saying ready for collect

                • @hurr1cane: what r my options? should I cancel or?

                  • @Sara Sadiq: You don't really have any options lol. They don't have stock and aren't likely to get more in. Get the refund and look for another deal.

        • Wow wow wow wow wow

  • I ordered one online to be shipped yesterday afternoon but nothing about shipment yet. Might be cancelled..

  • I thought JB reserves the stock if you place online order?

  • Anyone in Brisbane want this? I have one on hold as it was supposed to be for (an ignorant) family member, who now doesn't want it because "it's made in China".

    • Heya I'd be keen depending which store.

    • Hi i want one for my parent, how can i get it? would you please let me know?

  • If it is true that JB advertised this sale while having (and knowing they had) very limited stock, they have potentially breached the ACL's requirement to have stock available in reasonable quatities…
Any chance the ACCC will do anything? Not bloody likely.

    • They had plenty of stock yesterday. It was available for pickup in nearly all shops across Melbourne. I already got mine.

      • +1

The current catalogue runs for a week. JB ran out of stock in under a day (in fact it sounds like they ran out in under an hour).
Is that a 'reasonable quantity' which could expect to last a reasonable time???

        • In just 2 hour last night from 6-8 pm all gone online only Thomastown store left few some one mention previously all gone in opening hour

        • +1

in that 2 hours … there were over 2000s clicks on this deal

you reckon they should have over 1000s oppo a91 instock ?

          • +1

@dcep: I actually do think they should have thousands if they are running a nationwide campaign, on a decent phone at a very good discount.

          • @dcep: I clicked on link at least 50 times

      • BTW Does it have NFC mate?

        • +1

          Yeap

    • It's pretty frustrating. I placed an order at 725pm and was called to say my order has been cancelled etc etc. The thing is that had I known Vic Gardens didn't have stock, I would've placed my click and collect or gone in person to get one when they opened like others did. Now it looks like I'm missing out :(

      • I received txt saying ready for collect

        • What time was your confirmation email and which store? I think earlier people got lucky as there was SOME stock.

          • @WallybR: I got the confirmation at 7:08 pm…. Luckily it got processed and it's ready to pick up from the same outlet as yours … Vic Gardens ..

  • Worth noting that the promo only applied to the Lightning black model. Makes no sense to me but it would have been helpful to include this in the title.

  • Yeah, as per previous comment I was told by a staff member that only the lightning black is on sale. Called jb hifi Roselands and reserved one (blue, only one available as the black is sold out) but apparently the staff didn't knew it was only the black until I was in store to pick up. None of the black were available so she called other stores to get one. Apparently Eastgardens still has some. I will have to go back once the item has been delivered, it's a pain that I have to go back again.

  • +1

Really they should be coming out with another decent 50% off deal to cover the people who already made orders.

  • Got one at mile end this morning. Was told it was the last in SA unfortunately…

    • What about the NFC mate? Thanks

  • The Blue is now on sale for same price as Black, if you can find one…

    • Yes, can confirm the blue one is included in the sale. Just called JB hifi and their system shows the blue on sale as well.

      • That's odd. When I was in store at 11am yesterday, they specifically told me it wasn't. Had two on hold only to be quite disappointed.

Miranda NSW store showed no stock last night, but I asked while passing by and managed to grab a black. One black still available after my purchase as of 12:11 pm according to the salesperson. Taren Point / Caringbah NSW store showed no stock last night as well… but call and you might get lucky.

    • JBs stock tracking systems are not trustworthy in the slightest

    • Thanks fam. From calling 3 different JB hifi stores it kind of feels like they only know whats available in their store and not the surrounding ones. I called 3 stores who said its completely out of stock, called Caringbah at 5pm today and nabbed the last one there. Not sure about Taren Point. But I called Chatswood, Parramatta and I think Blacktown (used the 13 number) they said nothing available. Leichhardt was showing available yesterday but I didnt call up to check

The JB store in Thomastown had a few in stock when they opened this morning and there were a few people in front of me but fortunately I got the last one. The fellow behind me in the queue was pretty keen to get one and followed me out to the carpark and offered $250 in cash so I hesitantly sold it. I went shopping and then at 13:30 stopped in at Officeworks Bundoora to get some more printer paper and whilst looking at the phones a staff member asked if I needed any help. I pointed at the empty stand where the A91 belonged and told him about what had happened earlier in the day at JB and that they were selling them for $174, he then said it was my lucky day as he had one left and openly offered to price match and beat JB's price. Thanks to everyone here on OB I ended up with an A91 for $165.30 from Officeworks and also made $76 from the dodgy carpark deal…. PS: The fellow at JB said they had plenty of blue ones left in stock but they were not listed as on sale or marked down.

  • What would you guys say for this phone Oppo A91 vs Samsung Galaxy A11? Galaxy was on special last week and this one is on special this week? I have seen the specs of oppo and it obviously is better than Samsung but I wanna know the experience of anyone… any issues with oppo? Anything?

    • -1

I just got one and am not impressed with the dull and lifeless colours. Coming from my Galaxy 2A which is just so much more vibrant

      • You mind if I can direct msg you mate

        • Sure

  • +1

Ended up calling a store in Vic and they said they can do the blue for the same price. So got that. Great phone…amazing price!

    • Wooww you ended up managing to get one … Cheers ..
Can you please check if the phone has NFC? Thanks mate

      • Confirmed the phone has NFC. I did it at Camberwell store.

        • Awesome … Thanks mate. ..

    • Very lucky. Several stores in Sydney won't.

  • Just setting the phone up. Stock contrast seems quite washed out compared to my Galaxy A20

Upon first glance, the a20 has a much more vibrant set of colours

  • So it has NFC?

    • Yes

  • i was lucky i got the last black one at 10.15am thursday at syd westfield cbd jb hifi store i was told supacentre store had 2 but when i phoned i was told it was showing 2 but none could be found when i got one i asked and i was told there were 6 the night before but when i got there, there was meant to be 2 but there was only 1 luckily he put it aside for me and i got there in 15 minutes

  • I received the phone yesterday. Very impressed from first impressions.

However, after transferring all my apps and setting from my old phone, I decided to update the system OS (ColorOS) to get to Android 11 everyone was talking about. The phone updates in incremental versions (something like Color OS 7, 7.1, 8, then 11?). The first update seemed to make my phone laggy. I'm downloading ColorOS 11.1 now and hoping it's OK.

With other phones I've read of people fixing the issue with a recovery reboot. Others said they still noticed lag in Chrome. We'll see how I go anyway. It seems a reset might be the way to go anyway.

    • It seems for now that ColorOS 11 solves the lagginess issue.

    • Interesting how the oppo x2 pro- flagship phone is stuck on colorOS11.

  • Does anyone have Bluetooth streaming issues? I'm getting short skips quite often streaming to my Prius-V stock headunit.

I've been updating the OS as it comes and I'm now at Android 11.

Also does anyone else have the lock screen stay on after a notification comes in; USB cable connected and charging; and the phone is in a vertical position (I have a wall mounted magnetic phone mount)?

    • Issues resolved. Found a reddit thread suggesting Google Clock being the cause. So I removed all duplicate apps that was brought over from my old Android phone. All is good now.
