I'm immune to caffeine ever since I used that free 7-11 coffee voucher thrice every day on-top of 3 coffees at home every day

        • +5

          Holy guacamole
Yeah I'm also kinda immune to caffeine now
I used to drink free coffee at work
At least 2 or 3 cups a day

        • One double shot and I cant sleep the next 24 Hours. Like to keep it that way, good for gym workouts with very little pre-workout ;)

        • Why coffee when you can chocolate milk or vanilla coke i say

          The drink not the powder

          I'm not crazy just thirsty

    • +2

one of the best irrelevant comment ever :) Love it

    • +4

Could spend $700 on a series X and the remaining $1300 will cover coffee costs for next 5 years.

      • +2

True, but a Series X is just a shadow of a PC with a 3080.

Your comment is true though. Your logic is sound.

      • 5 years? lol maybe for $1 7/11 coffee

  • +28

    Under $2000!

    I should have a 3080 in about 12 months!

    • +5

if i'd put RRP of a RTX3080 into NVIDIA stock when the "release" for RTX3080 was done I could now afford to buy a RTX3080.

    • Yup, once they start offloading used stuff into the market, I hope we can see RRP.

  • +36

If you're buying a card for 1000+ dollars, you might as well have the option for mining when not in use.

    • +6

yeah, the non LHR will be cheaper than the LHR in 1 month

  • +3

Are all new batches LHR? Hopefully that means the price for them goes down whilst the OG cards go up?

    • For the time being they are simultaneously producing both FHR (full hash rate) and LHR cards. I think FHR will stick around for a while yet.

    • Pretty sure they’re making cards specifically for mining now so the OG non lhr will get harder to find

    • Non LHR 3080 available from same seller for $2000

  • +57

Hooooold you sluts. It can go lower!

    • *your

  • 3080ti deal?

    • +1

not worth the extra over the 3080

      • Not with these prices no but that's why we pray

  • +6

will keep dropping. Since it is illegal to dig coins in China. More stocks will be available.

    • +1

I heard a lot of them moved to Texas though

      • +3

anywheres possible, but they arent going to close up and give up LOL!

    • non LHR stock is close to dead, and a non LHR card still make $200+ a month. This is as cheap a 3080 as you can get for a top tier card

    • +8

it's illegal to do a lot of things in China, yet their government keeps on doing them.

      • +2

        It is called corruption

        • It's called government.

          • @EightImmortals: It's called free will

            • @AlienC: Oh I agree,

People have inalienable rights and government has limited powers, what part of that does government not understand?

Or to put it more eloquently…

"It amazes us to hear accounts of the valor that liberty arouses in the hearts of those who defend it; but who could believe reports of what goes on every day among the inhabitants of some countries, who could really believe that one man alone may mistreat a hundred thousand and deprive them of their liberty? Who would credit such a report if he merely heard it, without being present to witness the event? And if this condition occurred only in distant lands and were reported to us, which one among us would not assume the tale to be imagined or invented, and not really true? Obviously there is no need of fighting to overcome this single tyrant, for he is automatically defeated if the country refuses consent to its own enslavement: it is not necessary to deprive him of anything, but simply to give him nothing; there is no need that the country make an effort to do anything for itself provided it does nothing against itself. It is therefore the inhabitants themselves who permit, or, rather, bring about, their own subjection, since by ceasing to submit they would put an end to their servitude. A people enslaves itself, cuts its own throat, when, having a choice between being vassals and being free men, it deserts its liberties and takes on the yoke, gives consent to its own misery, or, rather, apparently welcomes it. "

  • What is the normal price?

    • +5

      last month, $2.5-2.7k

      • +5

        Ok thanks OP, bought 30

        • Why not 3080 ha

          • @AlienC: I didn't have a cheeky $6M floating around

            • @iforgotmysocks: Can you imagine seeing that in your bank account man all my worries s s an d problems would just literally melt away i could just sit and meditate or look at the walls and ceilings all day in my home clothes

  • +1

    getting there

  • +5

Gigabyte uses one of the worst thermal pad in the WURLD, probably old chewn gum will do better job than their stock ones. Even Aorus Master uses same dough, spills oil after 5, 6 hour gaming session in a day for a month. Mining with that card? that will be fire hazard at home, lol. Memory junction temp goes 108C on Metro Exodus on ultra settings. Sheeeeesh

    • +3

mate of mind add/replaced thermal pads and saw memory temps drop 10-15 degrees….

      • +1

From all my reading, this mod is basically mandatory I think which is piss poor of gigabyte to use such terrible thermal pads

        • -1

I haven't had any issues so far, card hovers around the 60-70 degree mark in most games (3080 Aorus Master)

          • +3

@Slurped: That's the die temperature, the cooling of which doesn't involve thermal pads. They're talking about the GDDR6x/memory temps.

    • totally agree my 2070 super was a hunk of shite, i dissuade anyone from buying Gigabyte whenever i can

      • Yes I second that motion Gigabyte is bollocks ! Had my LAN port just die on a Gigabyte board - never had anything else go wrong ever on Motherboards - Gigabyte is soo second rate they are effectively garbage IMO

    • ironically, aorus master/xtreme has worse cooling than eagle/gaming

      • +2

I mean all the budget went into screen and rgb, who needs cooling when your card looks the coolest.

    • Wish I knew this before ordering a gigabyte 3080……=(((

    • That's surprising because the Aorus doesn't get the atrocious Windforce fans. I guess they've figured very few people will notice, so why bother making something fit for purpose?

  • -2

    $10/day to mine eth?

    • -1

Around $9 after electricity cost assuming 20 cents per KWH. I got one to add to my mining rigs.

      • +1

        Mining eth… As a millionaire.

        • haha, hilarious. I'm not that guy, but watch his videos, pretty funny.

          • @techlead: Sure…

      • Difficulty has dropped in the past month, thank you China!

        • Yep, China banning crypto is very good for crypto.

  • I'm hearing with China cracking down on crypto mining, the GPU supply is already improving and prices should stabilize soon. (Fingers crossed)

I build a new PC last year in October, hoping to get 3080 and still no luck to this say.

Might have to just skip the generation.

    • +3

you are right. this card is selling for aud$1600 brand new in China ATM. we should see similar prices in a couple of weeks.

      • source?

        • +1

if you can read Chinese, you can find plenty on taobao.com, those are with invoice and 4 years manufacture warranty. you can even get them to au for like $20 + gst. however, this is still far from the bottom.

        • They really are. In fact they have plenty of stock.

Get a buddy from Taiwan or China to ship one over.

Also, nearly all cards are close to MSRP.

Price jacking isn't that acceptable there.

    • -2

This is actually not good news. The crack down is in China, not anywhere else. Hashrate for Ethereum has dropped 20% which makes mining even more profitable. That means current miners are benefiting, like me. :D

Unless you can get those second hand units in China for cheap, you wouldn't see prices fall here as miners here will be snapping up cheap cards.

      • Interesting and it makes sense. I was wondering why I was getting over $10 per day net of electricity on my 3080… 4 months and it will have paid for itself at this rate lol

        • Yep difficulty has dropped 20% in the past month. ETH prices starting to go up again as well so I don't expect these prices to last long.

  • +2

Joining in this discussion while my RTX 3080 renders this page. :D

    • Yeah I'm glad I got a 6900 XT in January. I thought I was going to regret buying early but no regret with these prices around

      • +1

Yeah I am glad to have persisted in the early batch of preorders last year. Sometimes it is hard to nail down what is the best time. Enjoy your card!

  • Annoying having custom watercooling and the out of box waterblocked cards never in stock/sale

  • Hopefully this is an indication of price correction on GPU. I'm looking forward towards Black Friday Sales now.

    • I feel like an old boomer but what date is Black Friday?

      • 26th November 2021
The sales usually start few days prior to that date.

You can look up the past history of sales in OZB .

  • aka shitty VRM version LULW

  • +3

Huh… so it was mostly the mining that jacked the GPU prices after all and not the silicon shortage… Or seems like that it had a much greater impact… interesting…

    • +4

what causes price spiking is demand and supply, mining increased demand and silicon shortages reduced supply hence it became a multiplicative effect on pricing.

      • It was mostly the mining though.

        • +8

No it wasnt the mining per se, it was the fact that the manufacturers allowed miners to buy bulk before the cards reached retail trade channels. If miners had to compete with the retail market then it would of been a lot less of an issue.

    • +3

it's a demand problem, even at 1.5xMSRP, miners are willing to buy as many as possible, so even if supply 10x, the price wouldnt have came down

      • Yep. That's why nvidia have put in hashrate limiters with the LHR version. That will help until it gets cracked or in the 2060's case, some developer leaking the non-limited drivers.

I have read the limiters will now be more sophisticated and on a hardware level so harder to circumvent.

    • -1

There was never a silicon shortage from the supply side. GPU sales are up 40% year on year, supply is at an all time high. Look at how cheap CPUs are.

  • +2

just wait for the price to be normal.. it will happen

    • +2

Of course it will, when RTX 4080 comes out

  • +5
    • Got it, this is an amazing price for the non-LHR version!

  • are these refurbished mining card?
